Wondering if there are any mods to help get better gas mileage?

Also, I just bought my first truck, after lifting and putting on new tires I was expecting to get worse gas mileage but it’s the same. Is that normal?

If you want better gas mileage take the lift off, put stock size street tires on it and drive like a Grandpa. Other than that, trade it in on a Prius.

No mods to get better MPG. These things are filthy pigs.

what size lift and what size and weight tires were put on? It’s not normal at all to still get the same MPG.

4in, I down sized to 18in on the wheels and the tires are 295/70 nitro ridge grapplers. I was getting just under 13 mph city and I’ve driver almost a full tank since the lift and tires and it’s virtually the same.

Lol, I know I’m not going to get great gas mileage. I’ve heard a chip or changing to a different filter can help. Sorry if these threads come up often

You're going to want the lightest wheels and tires you can find. SOS Performance makes a 2/4 lowering kit, that might help. Dirty Deeds claims their exhaust system might give you a couple mpg. A tune and a pedal commander on eco might help a bit more.

I would try putting 300-400 lbs of sandbags in the bed, airing down the tires to around 20-25 and then drive only in tow haul mode....all of those together, and you should really hit the sweet spot :)

Don't trust the computers MPG. Calculate it yourself. Also, if you changed the tire size and have not had the speedometer recalibrated your odometer will be off and you will need to account for that in your calculations.

Best idea if you’re not going to sell your truck: forget about mpg. You can obsess all you want and spend a bunch of money on lighter wheels and stock size tires so you can get 1mpg better. What would that cost — $2k total if you go with FN or SCS wheels? $3k for Gram Lights?

For the sake of argument, suppose you spend $2500 going back to stock size tires and lighter wheels, and it nets you +1.5 mpg, which is a realistic gain. Suppose you drive 10k miles per year and your +1.5mpg nets you a savings of $220/year. (I figured this with 13 vs 14.5mpg with fuel @ 2.75/gal).

You’ll have to drive 11+ years to break even on the purchase that was supposed to save you money.

I’m not trying to be harsh; there are just a ton of more practical ways to save $220 in a year.

And welcome to the forum. :hattip:

YEEEEHAW! THATS 2 MORE MPG THREADS JUST THIS WEEK TO ADD TO THE 1,439,274,959 WE ALREADY HAVE.

PUMP THAT MPG TO THE MOON BABY! :rocket::rocket:

Sarcasm aside, welcome and please SEARCH before posting. These trucks have been in production a very long time and there is a massive library of good knowledge at your fingertips in here.

Not reliable enough for me. The hybrid Corolla is intriguing, though.

My neighbor has one with 350,000 miles on it, fuel it up and run it is all he has ever done. And normal maintenance of course.

Thanks for info, I honestly know nothing about cars lol. I’ve been told there are chips you can add and change filters that will help a decent amount and that’s why I was asking. From the comments that seems to not be true. I’m not overly concerned, but if there was a cost efficient way to gain some I would do it. That doesn’t seem to be the case though. Thanks!

Strip it down to the frame and maybe you'll get one additional MPG.

Reliable I would do some research before you make that statement. My buddy has TDI with 350k and just replaced the original clutch. How that not reliable.

I like to restard my MPG tracker as I start down a really really huge hill. I look at it when I get to the bottom of the hill, enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling it gives me, then I change it back to show the MPH real quick before I see it starts dropping again.
It always makes me feel really good about my fuel mileage.

This. In 2021 it's possible to be a complete hermit:
    - Groceries delivered to your door
    - Amazon
    - Netflix
    - "Work from home"

Driving always costs money. What you gain is freedom! (well... unless you're in one of those states that tells you to stay home...)
