Exactly. The logic of downsizing a truck engine and adding more turbos gives me that look lol

Sorry to hear that, my 2007 is my ranch truck, it has been used and abused. Just lately replaced the starter and a wheel sensor few years back. It has been a solid truck.
My worst Toyota truck was my 3rd gen Tacoma, never liked the drive train.
The only thing that stops me from buying a 2022, is the price.

I've never had a supercharged engine but would love to try one. When my warranty is up on my 2021.

I ride a liter bike, and can relate. From my understanding the supercharger doesn't have the delay from spooling like the turbo does. Wish they were more common, damn manufacturers giving us the slow watered down versions :D

That engine while very similar is also built in a different factory. Just like the previous land cruiser that used the 5.7 engine was identical except built better, no cam tower issues for instance....actually, no normal tundra issues shared with land cruiser with same powertrain...They do one off parts for a lot or most of the land cruiser, even the bolts and screws... There is a video from a toyota tech floating around somewhere that goes over it.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but what is the projected mpg of the TTV6?

I'm not an expert but Turbos typically run hot and are even harder on small(er) engine. I'm not a fan of small 4-cyl Turbo. Rather buy a regular V6 than a Turbo 4. Add load and towing to a smaller V6 Turbo ... translates into even more heat.
I'm sure the technology is getting better over time but unless the mpg gain is significant, I would still prefer a non-turbo and bigger engine for towing.

17 city/ 22 highway for the 4x4. Toyota seems to have went through a lot to increase cooling, note the large grill..

In another video he says the heated steering wheel and wireless phone charger are essentially worthless too.

I hope Toyota is punching the air right now and getting their shit together.

What a damn flop so far:anonymous:

Well considering there has only been two 4.7L V-8 and one 5.7L V-8 (I'm sure he made it, Blane10 on TT) make it to 1M miles....

    Cliff notes:

Door lock sticking, Toyota sent 5 engineers to assist, figured out issue, great experience, issue not really and issue.

Ah, those are the only ones I know of. It's a fairly niche thing to get a million miles on a vehicle, if the vehicle is capable of getting to a million miles. Without 3 engines and 12 transmissions along the way (jab at another manufacturers million mile video lol :D)

Hot shot, oil guys, seem to be one's who get the million miles. In the just about decade since the ttv6 Ford have come out, I haven't seen any even remotely close to a million miles. Doesn't mean toyota won't, but I have my doubts.

I think he's expecting too much from the steering wheel. It's not supposed to be hot...just not cold. That's all I want it for and nothing more. As for the entire thing not being heated, he's an idiot to think it would be.

Personally I've never been a fine of wireless charging because most are slow, plus he was running apps on his phone the entire time it was charging with the screen on.

    Many on the way.
Toyota has engineered/specified that the TTV6 for the Land Cruisers have a 50% increase in life expectancy over the units placed in the LS500. The Tundra is quite likely the same. Lexus LS cars are the flagship of the Lexus line up, they are screwed together every bit as competently as the LC. High mileage examples are easy to find.

Yeah just look at the motor in the Tacoma, it comes from a Camry. :eek2:. Seems to be durable in the truck, albeit not ideal in the least.

I don’t think you will find high mileage examples of this twin turbo in Lexus 500s because they only sell about 25000 per year and people who buy $100,000 cars don’t drive crazy miles like most working class people. They park them in garages and get every service item done at the dealership. I wouldn’t hang my hat on 4 years of this engine being in the LS500.
The LC300 is putting a diesel in some and the 4Runner engine in others. Not sure what percentages but I would rather the turbo diesel if I was buying a LC.
i think this 3.44 tt is a gap engine to get Toyota through to hybrid and most likely full electric when the govts dictate it. 7-8 years and it will be gone in the tundra.

My MIL had a 2012 F150 EB. Believe me, she just got in and hammered down and shut it of when done. 140k miles without an issue.

There are several people in the 300k mark with EB 3.5, but that’s nowhere near what I’ve seen out of Toyota vehicles.

Sure it might not last as long as some other motor but we are probably talking fractions here. The '22 is rated to tow more than the current 5.7 and I believe it will still have great reliability long term. Toyota is not going to jeopardize that rep and you can believe Toyota has tortured this new motor way more than any of us will. Also if I was towing close to the max constantly there would be a 1 ton in the driveway. Whatever happens it will be interesting to watch.

It seems hit or miss with the reports on the ecoboost, some guys have turbo issues well before 100k or even 60k others make it to 150k+ relatively trouble free. I think ford's improved on it over the years.

I have a friend that has two EB work trucks and hasn’t had any issues either. Now his 2015 F350 6.7L PSD has been a different story. Since he quit daily driving it to job sites and short trips, the truck has been rock solid.

Hard to say. I had one turbo go 190k miles on one diesel and another frag at 55k.

I wish the manufacturers were more consistent. As a machinist/cnc programmer amongst other things I understand how tolerances and manufacturing defects effect things. It kind of is what it is. I feel like buying a truck or any vehicle is a gamble. Just have to hope if there is a defect that it shows up under warranty.

Some manufacturers have a better record than others though, the big 3 that are constantly changing things will obviously have issues. I understand the need to sell more vehicles and "upgrade" every year, but I don't agree. I'd rather a manufacturer stick with what works for a long time and make it reliable. Kinda why I bought the old outdated 21 trd pro.

All you need to keep in mind is that all of these "updates" to drivetrains are due to governmental regulations on fuel efficiency, and are not in the interests of reliability. I bought the 21 TRD Pro, and will be keeping it even if/when I buy a new truck.

I guess it depends on the manufacturer, my Ram 2500 when I had it, the steering wheel was adequately warm all around the wheel and the seats worked fabulously so much so that most of the time you only needed to turn on the wheel and seat and there was no need for blowing heat.

Rams (or whoever the company is now) U connect software system for the radio etc, it probably the gold standard, that was one of the biggest things I missed when I bought a Toyota. Toyotas navigation etc is hot garbage and by the looks of the lag time in some of the demo videos of system in the Tundra, it looks to still be Hot garbage. Luckily they finally put car play so now I don't have to rely on that unit to do anything except turn on and display CarPlay.
