I went to my local dealership for my free oil change. I asked for a price quote to instal the OEM tail gate lock. They told me $605 for labor. I was dumbfounded at their price. They then said it’s a region specific item and was surprised I was allowed to order it and said this was a complex install since their mater technician have to do a special install for this.

That's called the "We don't want to do it" price.

They're idiots. I installed a universal application and it wasn't a big deal at all.

Before they could give me a quote on price. They told me they had to look into it because since it’s a region item. My tundra may not be able to install the item. I was about to say they were stupid. But then I was stupid to ask them for a install price quote.

They helped you dodge a bullet. That shop would've probably done a hack job

Bought my OEM one from Cool Springs, installed in like 1.25 hours. Super easy and very clear instructions on the Cool Springs thread about it.

I forgot that I installed mine the day after and it scared the shit out of me when I unlocked my truck . Since then I've gotten used to it but it is pretty loud.

It was reminding you how badass your rig is now that you don't have to manually lock or unlock the tailgate

I bought a Ram 1500 Tradesman- the next to lowest trim level in 2015, and it had a locking tailgate. Some of the things Toyota does makes me scratch my head. The Tundra is better in every other way though.
