Now that video is the definition of driving HARD! I don't actually consider brisk acceleration on to the interstate to enter fast moving traffic quickly and safely or driving 80 mph as hard driving.

Normal for me is under 2000. I read on here a while back that MPGs go to trash over that.
But more often I’m driving well above that. Love the sound my DD system makes at 3500-4000

Well, I assume that only means it has a bigger battery than a lower optioned model would have....but could be wrong.
Totally agree with this. The posted speed limit on the highway is 70 mph. In my area, if you even try to stay at or below 70, you're gonna get passed by EVERYONE....cars, buses, semi trucks etc. Driving at 75-80 mph is normal here - You need to go at least 75 mph to keep up, so I guess I'm gonna get lousy mileage. Just kind of sad any truck is getting that kind of mileage these days. Good thing I have the 38 gallon tank...it needs it! My 797 HP Challenger averages 23 mpg driving it the same way on the same highway, and it's not light either.....

It was a really windy day that I was averaging 13.3 mpg on the highway. I had the cruise set at 79-80 mph, so you might be right....after 70 mph these trucks just start sucking gas. I guess the winds could have effected the mileage too. I had a new tonneau cover installed on the truck. I don't know whether that helps or hurts mileage...I was always told it helps in reducing drag. Again though, doing over 70 on the highway here isn't "playing"....its keeping up with traffic around you.

-Maybe next time I drive there, I'll set the cruise at 70 and stay in the slow lane and see what happens.....and hope nobody crashes into me.

If you want to improve your MPGs, install a reflective Slow Moving Vehicle Sign on the back of your truck and keep your speed below 60 MPH.

Took a road trip with just 1,000 miles on my new truck. Was a little concerned with breaking period but when I asked my good friend at the dealership he said the truck is already broken in at the factory.
Said they redline the engine and then change the oil to get all the metal shavings out.
On that trip I drove 80 mph and got 17.9 mpg.
I like getting on the truck with tow/haul mode. Have to get used to it so I don’t spin the tires.

yeah it’s just that the stock battery’s fail pretty quickly for a lot of folks. I’m sure it is larger or whatever but sucks that they are such low quality.

I hear you about 80 in some places is barely keeping up with traffic. Headwind and speed are cryptonite to Tundra mpgs.

The bed cover helped the RCSB Ram I used to have. Discovered it by accident when moving a bed for a friend across state. The mattresses almost perfectly fit/filled in the bed, maybe an inch higher than bedside. I noticed on that trip almost 1mpg more than usual on the way there, and back to normal on the return trip (empty). Didn't think much about it until I saw the same thing when I finally did add the bakflip cover - picked up almost 1mpg on highway.

Not sure the cover on my Tundra CM is doing much though...

There's lots of theories on breaking engines in. I just finished building a supercharged 6.0 LS for my buggy, and after lots of research concluded that once the engine is warm then send it and change the oil and she's good to go. Almost all race/custom built engines have no "break in", especially if it's a fresh build and gets dyno tested right away, there is no break in at all.

really it's not even about going fast with tow/haul and s mode. The truck just drives better, like how it should have been programmed to drive from the factory. But EPAo_O. In the city or roads that at the most are 55 mph, I have it in T/H S5. An then flip it to 6th on the high way. This is how this truck was meant to be. So nice and fun to drive in tow/haul S mode. An I believe it's more efficient to drive it this way conservatively cuz the the trans is not slipping and hunting for gears. YMMV.

I’ve naturally slowed down over the years. Haven’t pushed the new Tundra too hard yet as I’d like to baby the fresh 5.7 for a 1,000km (1,600miles) or so just for peace of mind. I’m really digging the sound of the TRD duals so I could see my driving habits becoming focused on making it sing

Tundra aside, it would be great to get on a closed course to for a little formal training and to push someone else's perf vehicle to the max; good stress burner I reckon!

I have had my 2021 for 4 weeks and I have given up on trying to maximize my friggin gas mileage. If I get 12 mph I am real happy...and that's driving with a relatively light foot

I agree, that's how I liked it the best. I installed a pedal commander and City +2 is just like that. Makes it fun to drive, and I'm not mashing the pedal everywhere.

I drive it like my head is on fire and my ass is catching. 550 horses need to run free. No sense having 550hp if you're not gonna use it. :quickdraw:

Break in period on a tundra is bs. I agree. This old dinosaur can’t be broken.
