This is me, lately. Since Covid hit, I'm working from home and all the kids activities have been cancelled. I'm not driving much, so when I do, I savor it. The driver's seat in the 1794 is more comfortable than anything I've got in the house, so windows down, heat seater on, and some good tunes and the slow lane is just fine for me.

What do you guys consider "high RPM"? 3k? 4k? More? I'm curious what the line is to be considered high RPM driving. I usually try and keep it under 2500 for most normal driving but I know some guys do a lot more.

Especially on a hot summer day. I seriously don’t know what people are in such a hurry for. AC isn’t standard in homes around here. Pretty much every car has AC.

Anything over 3,500 is high for me...average acceleration is probably about 2,500

God damn Keith and his exhaust and Tow/Haul paired with S mode. so yeah, I drive the shit out of it......but I did the same to my 99 F150 and got 223k out of her and sold her still running with no major repairs done. 20 year old clutch still going strong. I love to go fast.

    Doesn't 223k in a Ford = about 1,000,000k in a Tundra?

As my daily driver it gets driven pretty easy. Occasionally get on it a bit from takeoff just to hear it purr. Not usually in a hurry though. It's not a sports car.

I don't baby it when used for it's primary purpose of towing on vacation though. Not uncommon for it to sing at higher revs when the cruise control tries to hold 70mph going uphill on the interstate in S4 and Tow/Haul mode pulling a 4,000+lb trailer, with multiple dirt bikes in the bed and all the crap 3 people need for a week of camping.

Good for it, I reckon. I've always believed in the occasional 'Andretti' tune up to keep the carbon cleaned out.

I'm not German, but I do have a custom BAMuffler, a drop in AFE air filter and I've been DAPtized.
I drive it hard, but I don't drive it hard enough to smoke the tires because new tires are expensive.
Even with over 295,000 miles this 5.7L is happy to rev, and it sounds great.

It's the family mover and my commuter plus I'm at an age where I'm no longer considered a youth so I really don't get on it hard other than using the power for the interstate on ramps. My current commute is 129 miles one way at 78-80mph and I'm getting about 16.1mpg (calculated at the pump). Sounds like a terrible commute but I only do it one day a week, it's worth it to not live in Atlanta any more.

After reading this, I had to verify what rpm I was seeing at 79-80 mph on the freeway. I stand corrected...its actually just a tad over 2K rpm's....around 2050-2100. But it doesn't change the bad gas mileage....makes it worse really! If the display is to be believed, I'm averaging only 12.5 mpg right now combined city/highway. I calculated the gas milage the old fashioned way...miles driven since last fill-up divided by gallons used.

Window sticker does say it has the "Tow Package", which is 4.30 limited slip differential, engine/trans fluid coolers etc. - But I assume most of the Tundras out there have the same thing...

I'll keep an eye on the gas mileage to see if it improves. I don't see how a CM 4X4 that weighs more in theory gets 17 mpg when my DC 4x4 only gets 13? ....and I drive it normally, no lead footing. I normally have my cruise control on when I'm on the freeway.

Took the gf to see christmas lights last night. Road was wide open, except a dodge challenger that started to come up on me, I was already going 10 over. He starting romping on it and I gave in, did a few good pulls with him, he pulled away everytime obviously, but it was still fun, then we caught a red light and he asked if I had anything done to my truck, told him it was stock and he was pretty surprised, said he was surprised I kept up as well as I did, the next red light I got him off the jump for just a second. Truck did alot better than expected, he didn't just pull away from me like I was standing still, but damn was I giving my truck everything she had.

The 5.7 sounds at it's best between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm, so I try to keep it in that range when accelerating. I hardly go over 5,000. But I do like to get up close to that regularly. Sometimes I am ashamed of myself flying out of an intersection when the light turns green and I see the rest of the cars just slowly pulling out and being left behind, just to catch up with me at the next light. I know what they are thinking at that moment. But... it's fun, so why not enjoy it.
In town I do stick to the speed limit though, so the quick acceleration is only done until I reach the 50mph or whatever the limit is for that street. On the highway it's another story; I have bad habits there; these trucks are as comfortable and secure on the road at :censored: mph than it is at 60, so I easily get myself up there.

I did that one night, coming onto the interstate at an onramp, I saw a car approaching over the bridge behind me. It was dark and I could only see his lights. As usual, with no other cars around I gunned it and was doing about 85 when I realized he was still gaining on me. So just playfully I accelerated to 90 and he was still gaining. But he only came up to my rear bumper, one lane over and stayed there. Curiously I slowed down back to about 70, and he did the same. Then I accelerated again to 90 and stuck right there behind me. Slowed down again and then back up to 90, and he just stayed right there behind me. At that point I reached my exit and when I slowed down to make the turn we were in the street light area of the interchange and I saw him passing me - it was a sheriff deputy car. I guess he was off duty on his way home or something and did not bother - just played along.

    It actually says:
"Tow Package: Tow Rcvr Hitch, 4.30 Axle, Eng/Trans Fluid Coolers, Tow/Haul Mode, HD Batt & Alt, & Integ 4/7 Pin Connector
    -Automatic Limited Slip Differential"

Copied exact off the window sticker......

I enjoy driving my truck best on the open road about 80mph. It rolls so smooth. Gas mileage is only 16.5 but I don't care, my Tacoma only got 18. Both trucks were good for my T-level.

I imagine there might be some aerodynamic differences that could cause a litte difference in mpg under the right circumstances (longer cab shape and shorter bed affecting where air flow lands in relation to tailgate, drag, etc...), but at 80 I can tell you my CM doesn't get anywhere near 17. I only see 17+ at around 60-65 mph. Maybe 17 mpg up to 70 mph if no wind and flat road. I find every mph over 70 you pay dearly for in mpg loss. I believe the term is "pay to play". :burnrubber:

I've gotten just over 18 with 100% highway driving, doing 79 mph, in my stock 2020 1794. But that is ONLY stopping for gas. Any extra stops really drop the mileage, even with very controlled acceleration back up to speed.

I drive 8-10 mph over speed limit on highway. And I put my foot in my truck all the time. If Im mountain driving I have no holding back stomping on it getting up to 80 to 90 to pass. Generally I drive fast but cautious. Never had a ticket for speeding.
I dont really care about gas milage, I didnt buy a truck to worry about it.
My inlaws call me lead foot.
