Horribly Seized Bolts on Fan Clutch

    Too late now. But why vice grips and a not a 6 point wrench….double wrench if need the leverage. Torch the nut until red. Even if it had loctite it would have come off.

    I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw it not fit :rofl: gonna get a dremel bit tomorrow at Ace, should’ve gotten one at Lowe’s where I got the splitter as a backup. RIP

    Low profile 6 point socket with outside diameter hex on the socket or Gearwrench bolt biter wrench insert. Last, but not least Olsa extractor wrench set. Lots of great options.

    I took me like 10 years, but when the repair goes off the rails I can stop now and wait Amazon to deliver a proper tool for the job. I don't see how any cutting tool will help here w/o causing even more wreckage.

    Dead stock with oem 16" starfish wheels. We'll see how long that lasts. :) Topper of unknown origin.
    An angle grinder is a darn good tool for this job.

    The wreckage is limited to the fan clutch and pulley holder, both often replaced during a timing belt job, while the pulley is salvaged and reused.

    If the fan clutch needs to be saved then careful cutting will do the trick. I'd still like to see how an induction bolt heater would improve the result here.

    Did you end up replacing the whole fan pulley bracket, or just the studs you cut?

    These are not pressed in, they're threaded on both sides, secured to the fan clutch bracket with loctite. I'll have to do some digging on crackies thread to show you

    Excellent. I saw some videos of aftermarkets where they were not pressed in and threaded in with loctitte as you said. Knowing the OEM is the same makes that easier. My nuts and fan bracket were not any issue when I did my timing belt and I reused everything

    I replaced the entire bracket. A new bracket came as part of the timing belt/water pump replacement kit.

    Read through the thread and I think I’m going to just cut them off with an angle grinder at a later date and throw the current one back on since I know the bolts aren’t going anywhere. I just want to make sure I focus on this timing belt job and get it done right.

    I’ve spent maybe 1k in parts and tools already, so I’m just going to wait until next paycheck to do the fan bracket and anything else that might need to be done so I don’t go broke!

    Where can I go to get the cheapest OEM bracket? Saw the Aisin one on Amazon for $117, not sure if Ourisman is better/cheaper since I haven’t looked
