Main purpose was to not feel depressed & angry every time I mashed the pedal in the ‘16 Taco...Tundra is definitely serving its purpose.

    New windshield wipers....just getting started
    VERY good question.

We tow a '23 foot camper and even though a Taco might have been able to pull, it is nice to have the "reserve power" and weight of a true full sized towing vehicle. It likely never would have been a GM, Ford, or RAM regardless of towing. Toyota reliability and quality sold me...just a matter of how much truck I needed.

I was using a Tacoma to put my family of 5 in and tow our 20’ boat and travel trailer. We needed the interior space (bought a Crewmax) and the TRD Off Road with tow package for 10,800 pulling limit. Also got 4x4 because we drive on the beach, I launch my kayak in some muddy places, and my Jeep friends seem to get stuck and call me.

Your right about a third option. But I don't think adding a third option was an option. lol. But I guess that fits closer to just in case as opposed to "purpose". haha

Its great to read others reasons and deciding factors to be honest. Its good to know that I'm not the only one that bought it just in case and for the hell of it. Every single time a lifted tundra rolled passed me in my Tacoma, I always said "I should've got one of those instead!". Now that I have one, I love every minute I spend in it. I also love seeing my fiancé driving it. My truck is on 35s with a 5inch lift. My fiancé is 4'11". haha

while that is true i put new tires and a 6112 lift on less than a month after buying my tundra. it is more of an issue of it having a completely over-bearing nannies system that seemingly still intervenes when switched off. i am Canadian and take my truck hunting which requires decent offroad ability at times and have been stuck in 4x4 with this truck in situations that a tacoma could handle in 2wd.

I just wanted a big truck because they are cool AF and I didn't want to compromise on interior trim so I went for the platinum. I am VERY happy :D

I got the Tundra for purpose. Actually a few purposes. I do hardwood floors as a side gig so always need to haul tools around. I have two large breed hunting dogs and am an avid hunter so a truck was pretty much as nessecity. It also comes in handy all the time for projects around the house. I always wanted a Toyota truck but could never find a good deal on a used one so when it came time to buy new I had the option of a Tacoma or Tundra. The Tundra won in every way. I'm 6' 2" so I'm much more comfortable in a Tundra and 5.7 is way better than the new v6 in the Taco.

Had a 2007 Tacoma Access Cab. Built it up to what i wanted. Loved that truck. Made the choice to have a second kid and knew a second carseat wouldnt fit. Had to make the change to something bigger. I use the truck bed so much it didn't make sense to go to a SUV. Didn't even think of any other options besides the Tundra.

@RowdyRon I'm using the trusty P3. I tried the OEM IBC once and it scared me so I switched to the P3 and have had no issues. It's too bad our trucks don't come with an IBC as good as this one.

I have 2 boys 16 and 8 - they no longer fit in the Tacoma DC, and I have a large tractor I need to tow to my farm (used a 79 Chevy 4x4). So I figured I could get rid of the Taco and old Chevy and get the Tundra Crewmax 4x4 - which could do dual jobs. I sold the Taco in Sept 2016 and did not pull the lever on the Tundra until December of 2017 (last month). Once I really started researching the Tundra's I scared the shit out of myself with all the horror stories of some of the problems that occur with the trucks, reading online Tundra forums. LOL I must say I learned a great deal about the trucks which no doubt helped in the end.

I wanted something big enough to smash Jeep Cherokee. My old GMC did it ok. 20171106_092139.jpg

So I don' know what category that falls into.

A couple years back I was tooling around town and was sitting at a red light. Up next to me pulled the most beautiful black lifted TRD Pro. I was in awe. The custom wheels and big tires had me drooling! When the guy pulled off the sound of the duals was like a heavenly chorus of angels singing. I was in love and told myself, one day I’ll have one of those. That dream came true last year. I don’t tow anything and hardly ever haul stuff in the bed. It’s just a bad ass truck and I love her!

Boat got bigger. Taco was not up to the task. That is a lie. But the tundra pulls it so much better. If i did not have a wrangler i would go back to the Tacoma. I want a standard transmission.

My purchase was a just in case nice to have purpose.

A few years ago I My Dad was going through kidney cancer. Just before he went into surgery my uncles in VA (my dads brother but 20 some years older and raised him) died. We had to take off quickly, but none of us had a car anymore that fit 5 people - much less two 6’3” men. We rented a Ford Van that turned out to be one of those newer style work trucks with bench seats.... it was horrible.

I vowed right then that I would get a Four door pickup so when we need to roll, we could roll immediately.

It’s come in handy carrying rock, tools, traveling, camping, etc.

Could I do without - yeah. But does it have a purpose - ummmmm. - yeah also.

I had been driving mid size Trucks for 13 years after driving full size for over 20. Wanted back in to a full size. Tundra rides so much better than Tacoma. Seating is more comfortable on long trips because seat is higher. Trip from dealer back to work and I knew I made the right choice. Main reason was towing and hauling. Pulled bay boat 6 hours from La to Tx in Tacoma at 70-75 whole way but Tundra does so much better. 38 gallon tank is a necessity at 10 MPGs towing. Boat scaled at 4650 with no gear and half tank of gas. Fill with gear and gas then 5k easy. Boat has 95 gallon tank. Doubt I would ever fill unless oil prices jump.

you can turn the nannies off if you press the corresponding button for 5-10s and it will stay off until the next ignition cycle.

yes, you can quick push for lsd or double tap and hold for outright off. the problem isn't a matter of not knowing how to switch it off, it's more about how when all four wheels are on a slippery surface (ice, snow) that it never truly finds the traction my previous trucks had.
trust me, i love my truck. this is more a matter of finding the one thing that completely disappoints me about it... next to the headlights :violent:

lol ... I like the LED headlights, especially the 2-3" adjustability when you have a load. I think they are way better than what I had in the Tacoma during night time.

now if they could just implement the new headlights like in the 2018 euro benz/audi/bmw headlights, now that would the the bomb.

Same here, well at least for the last couple of years. I had an '11 Tacoma Access cab, which worked fine for me, but a guy only lives once. Now I have an '18 CM, with a 6" lift and 33.4" tires on it, (the 34.6" tires on it originally still allowed it to get in the garage, but it was cloooose).
