Just thought I'd ask, what was the reason you chose a tundra over a mid sized truck? Not trying to stir up any drama here. I really just want to know if you have purchased or will purchase your Tundra for:

Purpose: meaning you bought it with actual use for a full size truck suck as towing your boat, race car, fifth wheel or other toys that a mod size can't haul. Need the huge rear leg room of the crewmax or need and use the long ass bed of the double cab.

    -or-

Nice to have: meaning you could've been fine with a mid size truck but opted for the tundra "just in case" of reasons mentioned above.

If you chose to participate, please be honest. I'm sure some folks would want to know what was the deciding factor as well. If this poll is stupid, just move on along to the next topic. Thanks!

To be homes most of my truck use would've been done just fine with the 3rd gen taco that I traded in for my tundra. But it's always nice to have extra room and power. And tundras look beastly!

Tough one. It’s really both reasons for me but I picked “for a purpose”.

Taco was a great truck, but a tundra had more space, power and room. Got tired of feeling my kids feet in my back with the taco. Tundra has more room for carrying camping gear and enough power to tow if I ever rent a camper or haul some ATVs (when I get permission from the wife). So here a where the “just in case comes in”.

Sorta where I'm at. I chose more towards just in case because I don't own anything that needs to be towed by a v8 although in the future, I may. Most of my things that would require a v8 are mostly just in case. I have buddies with off road toys and race/show cars that may have to be towed, etc.

    Nice to have.

Bought my 2008 because I thought it would be cool to have a Tacoma, but the Tundra was quite a lot cheaper after incentives at the time.

Buying my 2018 because I've grown to really like the Tundra and could really use the extra cab space on a crewmax.

Could I get away with a Camry or Highlander? Sure I could, for 99.9% of what use it for.

Bought it for towing my boat and dump trailer. Also 'cause I have 2 kids that are really comfortable on road trips. I had a Taco and always felt like the passenger was almost in my lap.

I'm 6'2"and my Baja navigator is 6'6". Lots of leg/head room is a must.

I was highly considering a '16 Tacoma quad cab longbed, but after reading all the problems that new generation was suffering from I looked at the Tundra. The Tundra had everything I wanted and was only about $4k more than the Tacoma. Plus the Tundra could do so much more than the Taco other than parking in a small spot.

I bought it to pull a trailer every day for my construction/remodeling business. If I was strictly sales, I'd own a Taco.

Little bit of both here. The Tacoma drivetrain was too much like my past ride and I wanted something with more power. I have intentions of running a FWC down the road so the V8 was a must for me. No strung out V6 hitting 4k RPMs over a mountain pass.

I had a 2006 Tacoma, and would still be driving it today if it hadn’t been for:

    http://vid946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/landphilsite/070916_zpslehuw7uh.mp4

I couln’t find another Tacoma for the insurance payout I got, but I did find my Tundra for that. And I was still on the fence between the two up to the very end.

I love having enough room for everyone to be comfortable (2 growing boys) and can now haul my quad and snowmachine with ease.

I loved my Tacoma, we just grew out of it. The boys got bigger, some of the trips become longer. Bigger truck, more power. And you just can't get that sound out of a V6.

I could have lived with a mid-size, but I'm a pretty big guy (6'4" 250lbs) and I love the room of a full size. I also have a 3-year-old and another baby due in March and the mid-size pickups are pretty bad with car seats, especially rear facing. We also plan on getting a travel trailer in the next year so it made sense to just go with a Tundra!

I like the full size with a V8 I live in Arizona and there are a lot of mountains so when pulling a trailer or boat or whatever I am not the one in the slow lane doing 20 mph

I'm not sure if my purchase falls under either category in the poll - I bought it because I liked it. I am also confident that I will never wish that the truck was smaller, less capable and has less room. I'm pretty sure that if I'd purchased a mid sized truck that I would eventually want more room, power and capacity.

All things considered, the mid sized trucks are almost as expensive as the full size truck, don't get that much better gas mileage and don't have the room or the performance of the larger truck. To me, the larger truck is the better value.

No reason really, heck I don’t even use the bed that frequently, I just really liked it, so I got it. I’m used to driving trucks, I’ve never owned anything else, my 2015 Tacoma was doing just fine...

I bought my first Tundra for pulling a trailer and working on the property. I wrapped it around a tree 14 months ago. After walking away from a horrendous accident, I bought my 17 tundra for towing AND safety.

    Well put Steve.

We're going to be towing and the load will be close to the tow rating for most V6 vehicles. I like to have a good bit of margin when towing so the tundra made sense.

Besides, who doesn't like to jam their foot down on 400 hp :burnrubber:

Bought a Tundra in 2012 for the Chia-family I fell into. Missed my Taco so got a 2016 and traded it before it’s first birthday because the power was elusive. My Tundra has met needs I didn’t know I had and will never go back to a V6 unless it’s an Audi Q4 and I live on flat ground

I originally bought an '11 Tundra to pull my Z06 to track days. Then I got a used boat as well. Time passed and I sold the Vette and the boat and just kept the truck as a daily. I liked the truck as a daily for size, comfort, and usefulness so I stuck with the truck. My cousin then made me an offer on his '16 SR5 last year that I couldn't pass up so I'm still in a truck.
