Had a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 that I bought new. I bought a boat in 2014, and the GMC's 5.3 4sp just didn't tow the boat well. So, after lots of research, I bought a 2015 CM and I was hooked. Traded the 2015 CM for a 2017 CM.

purpose. had a 2016 Tacoma sport double cab. great mpg lots of mods done to make it very unique in the whole state (ND is small pop. wise) (I was/am very active on the Tacoma forums 3rd gen section, you can see the stuff I did in the BBP thread). but having 2 GSP hunting dogs, 2 people in the truck and gear made for very cramped trips. after wanting another GSP (2 for us and 1 for friend) Tacoma was unworkable for space. we don't let the dogs ride in the bed. we suffer the same temps as the dogs when hunting. if we are cozy in the truck so should the dogs be.

anyway here is a pic of our liver gsp and our friends white/black gsp, and we recently picked up a 2nd white/black gsp puppy to add to our liver one.

Found mine on accident. I was looking for a Tacoma and stumbled across my Tundra for the same price as I would of paid for a Tacoma. It's been a pretty good accident.

I bought mine for the added interior space of a CM over a mid-sized truck. Hard to fit multiple car seats in a Frontier or Tacoma.

I am 6'2" and a compact truck feels cramped to me, years ago I had a Tacoma and a Dakota. So I bought it for the comfort and also need the room in the back the CrewMax provides. I don't need the high towing capacity or a huge bed. I have a Mx4 bed cover and use it as a big trunk when we travel, my bed doesn't even get scratches (it would drive me up the wall).

I guess a big SUV would do it for me but I just love the looks of the Tundra and wanted one for quite a while.

I bought my tundra because I hated my 3rd gen taco. I enjoy my tundra but when the bronco comes out I will likely sell my tundra.

I liked my Taco but needed to go back to a full size truck. I haul a lot stuff, my trailer every now then, power, want a camper at some point, and I got tired of everytime I saw a Tundra and saying to myself.."I need to get one those".

I'm 6'4" and 250lbs. Full sized cab was a must. I honestly thought the Ford F-150 3.5L platinum super crew would be the one. However, I just had a gut feeling the Ford build quality was not on level with their price. I bought a 2018 Toyota Tundra platinum for durability reasons. It's also super bad ass!

Having a family and a house I’ll always own a truck....Toyota has the highest resale without question. In addition I like to mod my vehicles....some vehicles have so much intermingled that it limits what you can change...plus while we get horrible mpg the 5.7 is a beast

I have easy to reach dreams and my tundra was my dream truck. I told myself that one day I would own one. Settled for a Tacoma because of mpg but when I traded in for my tundra, I never looked back. And I feel the same way about scratches and dents and shit. I have slight OCD. Lol. And really, I work hard for every dollar I make. I understand some people buy trucks to beat em up but I try to keep my investments looking fresh atleast till I pay the damn thing off. Lol. My bed has a cover and a bed rug. I went with bed rug because when I load my gear (investments) I'd like to keep them from banging up against the bed.

I have 3 kids, 1 is an a booster the other 2 in regular car seats, so the tundra was my best option for room.. i actually bought my first tundra (08) wife didnt get pregnant till 2010 but the wife fell for the excuse that we needed the room lol

I think once you own your own home there is always a need for a truck. Purpose for full size compared to Tacoma was I have two car seats and they take up a TON of room.

I would love to own a Tacoma but with the ol' lady and the three kids when we take trips the Tacoma would be too small. Have to take a truck though as we bring the dogs in their kennel when we travel to my in-laws, so it must be a truck and it must be full size. I am a brand new Tundra owner of about 3 days. I traded in my F150 crew cab Lariat. I did like my ford but I know the Tundra will outlast it.

i've only trucks i've ever owned were toyota's (1987 toyota 4x4, 2008 tacoma and now this) so a tundra was the most suitable choice once my girls started to look cramped in the back of that access cab. it has been a solid upgrade in every way but one.... this truck is frustratingly bad in snow especially after coming from the taco.

Bought it for the price, purpose, and good looks. Replaced a 2007 GMC Denali XL with the 2017 Tundra CM. With the price of new Denali reaching a MSRP of 85K+, I thought paying full price for the TRD PRO sounded like a deal. o_O I use it to pull a boat and haul 3 kids around including moving 2 of them in/out of college multiple times a year.

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
Purpose - I drove (and still have) a gen 1 Tacoma for 15 years. It is a great little truck but I wanted something bigger to haul family in, plus needed something that could comfortably pull the toy hauler. Tied to be objective and not brand loyal when looking for a full size but ultimately knew I wouldn't be happy with anything but the Tundra. Lots of newer features that would be nice on the domestic brands but when driving them they just didn't tickle my pickle like the Tundy.

Had an 06 Superduty extracab that was paid for and low miles (less than 60k). The truck did everything well but stay out of the shop for sticking calipers due to lack of driving it often. Wife comes home and tells me were having a son (I was 43 at the time). It all went well until that car seat hit the extracab and her with it in the back. A week later I was getting some tires rebalanced on my Ranger when I spotted a Crewmax on the used lot. Normally talking her into another truck is a pain, she literally loved the idea and that huge cab was the ticket for her. Sold the Superduty and life carried on. I miss the old truck sometimes due to the fact it was such a tow monster, but those sticky brakes remind me why I like the Tundra. The only work it ever needs is oil changes.

Bought my Tundra for purpose ... to pull the camper. The Tacoma did an "okay" job pulling it but I always got a little bit nervous in the mountains and on long trips. I felt like I was pushing the Tacoma to its limits on a couple of trips up in the Poconos. The Tundra pulls the camper like a champ.

I'm sort of in between. Have always owned a truck, started with a tacoma then spent some time in the GM world driving a sierra for about 10 years. Now I'm back to Toyota in a Tundra. Main reason to switch was backseat room. Like some have stated, car seats in the smaller back seats are a pain, so going to the crewmax was a must. I also pull a 20ft boat, so nice to have the full size for that. I could probably get by with a Tacoma....but didn't make sense for me right now to squeeze in a tacoma when I can afford a Tundra, plus I like the Tundra ALOT more

I think it mostly has to be due to the oem tires. I think the ones that come on the platinum suck a lot worse than the ones that came on our taco sport.

I guess I bought my tundra for all of the above and more. To be honest the tundra was my last choice out of the other big three. But when it came down to it, it was the practical choice. I came from trucks but my last car was an SUV. Just not enough room. Plus I’m a plumber and the truck made sense for side jobs. I do have plans to buy a travel trailer in the future, as well as I now have an option to put my quad in the back of the truck instead of on the trailer. I recently went camping and was able to haul my buddies boat and the bed full of camping gear with ease. So at that point my “just in case” became purpose. Also the “Just in case” 4 x 4 option became purpose when we got a flat on the boat trailer and I mistakenly pulled into the soft shoulder. Started to get stuck upon leaving, switched it in the 4 Wheel and pulled right out.

This being my first 4 x 4 vehicle it has been great being able to go on adventures into places I would’ve been nervous being in a 2x.

I would’ve seriously considered a midsize truck if I could find one with a V-8 brand new. If they offered a Tacoma with a 4.6 L it would’ve been a contender. Obviously the travel trailer would’ve had to been small. Either way I’m probably a Toyota guy for life now .

That's what I told the guy at the dealership, when he asked, as a ploy to sell me the extended warranty, why I bought the truck. I said, "Haven't you heard? I have the world's smallest penis!". We had a good laugh, and I declined the warranty.

This poll needs a third option: Just for the hell of it.

Our 2016 TACOMA was just not going to be comfortable enough to tow the travel trailer we want to buy. I also get firewood in the fall\ winter and snow is an issue. I'm also 47 and I like trucks and wanted a sports car to f with. Mid life crisis? Yep. Once in awhile it is fun to mash the skinny pedal!
    Midlife crisis solved.
