Mine is listed as mixed. But she's Rottweiler and something small....maybe Pitt. She's got the same white strip as yours. Just under 50lbs, fully grown and all muscle and love.

I'm not so sure about this. I can't recall the name of the show, but they did a test where they had guys in bite suits walk into random homes and they recorded the dogs reactions. 90% of the owners said they believed fluffy or roscoe would attack someone that broke into their house. The result? I believe only one did. It was a GSD that had been trained to do so. Some of the dogs ran and hid from the bad guy.

Yes 90% will just bark but will not bite unless scared. For dogs to actually do a real bite they need to be trained to do so and hopefully by someone who knows what they're doing to know their on and off switches.

looks like him for sure. Harley was a baby and a kid lover. Only real time I saw him sorta protective. He would always stand in front of our two kids and sorta check you out! But you got a great lookin pup!

thanks! yours is beautiful....mine showed up at my door-step almost two years ago as a pup (I think he may be mixed with Terrier), he was scared and hungry.....we could tell he had been beaten and mistreated. My son fed him and bathed him, took him around the neighborhood to see if anyone had lost him but no one claimed him. We kept him and now he is super spoiled and won't leave my side. My family says I pay more attention to him than my own grown-ass kids!!! He does listen better than they do, that's for sure :p

We have two rescues that I believe have some pit in them. The vet papers from the shelters both say lab mix. Our vet said that's standard to avoid the issues with having a "vicious" breed. Things like insurance, rental housing, boarding. They're both sweethearts, but we are working hard to control affectionate behavior, jumping, getting in someone's lap and such. The male definently thought he was the alpha of the house at first.
We were fortunate to have 5 hours of free training because we initially fostered him while bringing in the 5 grandkids and 5 grand dogs. The trainer taught us ways to establish the pack order, some I knew and some I didn't. For instance, when going in or out, they have to wait until I go in first and invite them in.

Ha....we had similar issues with ours wanting to be the Alpha.

She eats after us, has to ask for it (she does a "happy growl" as we call it) and coming in and out of the house, she's last.

I started training her to wait at door when we go out for our daily runs. Now after she's harassed and leashed up, I don't even have to tell her anything. She sits facing the door, I leave and say "ok" when I get out and she quietly comes out. It didn't take her long to figure it out. If she bolted out ahead of me, we went back inside. I don't think it took more than two or three sessions for her to catch on.

Lile you, that was a new one for us as our last dog was soooo easy going and laid back.

I've been trying stuff like this with our dog but we have 2 problems:

    1. My wife won't enforce these rules or maintain discipline and make herself into the beta dog (after me).
    2. Our dog gets too excited about things and forgets the rules and basic commands he knows.

You just have to keep doing it and make everyone follow the rules, kids included if you have.

The first time we probably went out and back in the front door, 20 times before we started our walk. Next time it was 10. Then she got it. My wife was ultra impressed when she saw us going for a run and Martha was just sitting there waiting patiently.

It sure is nice once they learn the rules. Much happier and easier on everyone.

Yep, it's definitely repetition, and patience
Same thing if they try to bolt, stop and start over. It might take 10 minutes to get out the door, but no exceptions.
Same here,we lost two that we had for 15 years, we all knew what each other wanted. A very peaceful and pleasant coexistence.

He is good in some respects. If I tell him we're going for a walk, he'll go sit by the door. If anyone else tells him, he'll probably jump and bark until they go to the door.

He could have been a member if he wanted to. USAA a long time ago was officers only, and that rubbed a lot of enlisted personnel wrong. When they opened memberships up to enlisted, a lot of them didn’t sign up. My late FIL was just like that. He would never use USAA. I do...and it caused a few Sunday dinner hot topics.

USAA only allows honorably discharged vets. My general disqualifies me
I tried to join years ago, but nope. You have to have an honorable discharge to join USAA. My general discharge doesn t cut it.

HA! Good luck with making your wife the beta. I haven't been able to do that since 1978.
Our female is very excitable. When it's walk time she'll stand on her back legs, spin in circles and wiggle so much we can't get the gentle leader on her. When we say sit her butt hits the floor for a nanosecond.
Best thing we've found is to stand still and ignore her. Eventually she'll sit, still wiggling, long enough.

    I didn’t even consider that.

I had a few friends snorting coke off hookers butts and they couldn’t figure why they got a OTH discharge.

Seems like something about 9mm in diameter would bring the rates down.
