    Good luck in CA.
I advise shooting multiple guns besides a shield. See if the local range does rentals. You may change your mind. I keep one around just to let my friends shoot so they don't waste they're money on one.

My wife and I have the Shield as HD and concealed carry. IMO, these are excellent guns, very accurate and totally reliable. We put TruGlow sights on them for better visibility. We also have G19s and I have a G36. All striker fired and outstanding guns in every way. For the Shield, we use the 8 round mag since it has an extension that supports the pinky.

First, before you buy go to a gun range and rent. The gun you think you want may not be the one you like the most after you fire it. Most ranges (at least her in TX) have a rental program where you pay X amount for an hour and can fire any gun they have available for rent. Buy a couple boxes of 9mm ammo and run a mag or 2 through every gun. With that said I really like the MP but have XD9 and a Glock 43 for my EDC.

Second, move out of CA and come to TX. You go to the store now and walk out with a gun in less than an hour.

Went out and tested g19, MP shield, and the FMK 9mm...

I absolutely loved how the FMK frot and shot. I think it was purely my luck but both the g19 and the MP shield didnt eject and had a soft strike.
    FMK did not.
Anyone here have any experience with FMK?

It's 15 minutes max if you don't stand there shooting the shit with the guy behind the counter. I've bought a gun during my lunch break and still had time to stop at Whataburger.

No FMK experiences. Good luck with your purchase and hope CA allows you to take it home :D
Ejection issues can occur for newer shooters. “Limp wristing” is generally the reason for the failures, and found more in Glock than others.
I’ve witnessed it more than a few times.

It's too bad you already made a purchase. Every handgun mentioned in this thread is a striker-fired gob of plastic. =(

CZ, Sig, and a number of 1911 manufacturers should be considered before buying a plastic gun, imo. There are benefits, imo, to carrying a double-action hammer-fired pistol with a decocker - lots of benefits. Maybe you've already gone through this too - I realize this thread wasn't about making a decision on what to get.

In any case, hope you enjoy your purchase as much as you possibly can in California. A close friend of mine recently moved to Utah from California and complains non-stop about the gun and ammunition laws there. The approved firearm restriction sucks - as someone with a fairly large collection and my C&R I could absolutely never live in California.

That’s crazy talk right there. LOL
Carrying a 1911 sucks. Did it for a year. Even with a badass, nicely fit, Milt Sparks IWB holster, that was comfortable.
I watched a group of newer shooters in training fail horribly trying to figure how to operate their hammer fired guns. One guy accidentally discharged next to me.

Hammer fired gobs of plastic have their place. They are lightweight, easy to operate, and function flawlessly.

Well he lives in California, so he can't carry it without going to hell and back anyway.

Hammer-fired gobs of plastic? Striker-fired gobs of plastic tend to result in far more accidents, have shit triggers, and are terrible (in comparison) range guns.. at least all the ones mentioned in this thread.

How did a hammer fired gun accidentally discharge? Some dipshit pulled the trigger, that's literally the only possible way. He was probably trying to manually decock it, which is a stupid thing to do when you can buy a pistol with a decocker. It's interesting you bring this up, because the overwhelming majority of ADs in LE and civilian use are with striker-fired pistols. If you can't figure out how to operate your hammer-fired firearm, you probably have a difficult time tying your shoes and shouldn't be in possession of a firearm.

Both have their place. In California where you can't carry it doesn't make sense to purchase a firearm that isn't intended to be exceptionally accurate or have a decent trigger because you aren't using it for self-defense anyway.

I personally have no problem carrying a 1911 or hammer-fired pistol, but I train with every pistol I carry. Like anything else, it comes down to preference and personal style (I don't mean fashion, but how you use and operate a firearm and what feels comfortable and intuitive to the operator).

There are pros and cons to both, and it comes down to preference more than anything.

I would argue against the "they function flawlessly" claim though, I've seen lots of various types of failures with striker-fired guns, wheel guns, hammer-fired guns.. They all have their own problems. I shoot limited USPSA so I see lots of guys running lots of different guns.. They all have their issues and their strengths.

Nothing stirs up a good debate like insulting something that someone else likes.

I didn't insult anything in my first post, simply stated it was too bad that some other options hadn't been considered (or maybe they have, which I alluded to). In my second post I did criticize the triggers on striker-fired guns, but alot of shooters don't even notice the difference so it might not matter anyway.

As I said, both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I didn’t realize he can’t carry in CA. That’s dogshit. Move. Lol
I’m getting on a flight here in an hour to CA LOL.
Yea, said dip shit dropped the hammer trying to decock it I believe.
Yes, all can fail. And I’d guess the majority of AD’s in the LEO field are because striker fired is what 80+% carry.
    The both have their places.
My biggest recommendation is to get out and train with the new purchase.

You hate polymer, we get it. :D

I swap all my triggers out by the way. On damn near every gun - unless they come factory with a Timney/ true Match.

I have a couple poly guns but they dont compare to the results I get out of a heavier frame with a trigger feel I'm really used to.

It's all about what you like. Just wanted to sell the OP on my version.

You can carry in California, you just have to go through hell and prove your need to.. as if having the ability to protect yourself and your family isn't justification enough.

Well it seems I missed a lot... lol I did consider many here. But it is also import that my wife be able to rack and fire the weapon. I will infact be getting my CCW. (not as hard as you think in California.) Also weight was a consideration. The CZ was extremely light but also closer to 1K. I wasnt willing to pay that on my first handgun. Lots of time and consideration went into my decision. I will say a hammer fire could very well be my next purchase.

Back to California gun laws...It sucks that law abiding citizens of California are limited to a gun roster, therefore limiting options on what type/model/manufacturer.
