So I'm about make the steps toward purchmy first handgun (firearm in general actually).
Looking at the MP shield 9mm
I need some clarification one a couple.of things.
    1) I have a valid CA DL but it has a different address then my current address.
    2) I do not have an renters agreement or Utilities in my name.
    3) I do not have a vehicle registered in my name at this time. (Truck is in my Ladys name)
EDIT- I have a vehicle registered to me at my current address .
So based on all of that I don't know what I would need to do in order to start and complete the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Real ID" but that will be another challenge because getting requires stuff in your name. I'm trying to figure out how we'll overcome these same hurdles.

You also have to take a Firearm Safety Test, nothing major. Go to your local DMV or AAA and get an official change of address form that matches your current.

I would go to ur local gun shop and just ask. But seems like it’s going to be complicated.

when we lived in solana beach, i did all of this through iron sights. this was before the days of 'real id' but they were helpful with good instructors. i have to imagine there's a shop in the oxtura area that can help you.

Give it a go then. Test is supper easy. Have u shot an MP before? When I bought my very first gun I went to a shooting range and shot as many guns that interested me as i could. Some guns feel better then others especially when shooting them. I was dead set on a glock but after shooting ended up with an xd9 as it fits so much nicer(for me of course). I know U didn’t ask for advice on this but i figured I would throw it out there.

I have the shield, great little compact carry, I get shit from friends saying “45 is better”. I just say let me shoot you where it matters it can do the same thing as a 45, kill, if you shoot someone in the right place it don’t matter what caliber you have they will die or disable them for a follow on attack. As for CA laws, I carry the ammo and weapon separate.

The 45 is great. But the nine works fine. Most law-enforcement carry that.

Is vehicle ownership/registration a requirement for the license, or just make it easier? If it’s a requirement, then the laws are truly discriminatory towards poor people, who would probably need self protection more. Just asking, our laws in MA are just as screwed up

Also just to add, make sure anything you use will not expire before your 10 day wait is up. That will cause you grief. Shield is popular. I prefer an xd9. I swap between an xd9 and a kimber ultra carry 2 as my carry weapon all the time. Get the change of address as soon as possible.

current DMV registration for vehicle, CA DL and valid FSC. If you got one of the new "non Federal" CA DL, then bring your U.S. passport as well.
