My dealer gives me a loaner even if it isn’t warranty work. I have never encountered a dealer that popped on an additional rental fee if something wasn’t in warranty.

Guess it depends on the dealer. I took mine in for a leaking radiator and asked about a rental. They told me if they found it was road debris and not covered under warranty then I would get charged for the rental. But it ended up being covered under warranty.

Took it yesterday to the appointment 1.5 hours away and sure as shit they couldn't get it to go off. I drove it home thinking maybe it was done but a little over 3 hours after getting home it started going off.

You should have asked for a loaner, left it and told them to call you when they got it shut off. Sounds like it is a total pain in the ass. It’s a brand new truck. That’s totally ridiculous that they would send you home with the problem not fixed.

Rngr88 I feel your pain. Man, how frustrating this must be. My dealer is conveniently "out of loaners" whenever I have to leave the truck overnight for warranty repair. Have you considered discussing this intermittent issue with the service manager? Surely the dealer realizes the only way they can help you is to keep the truck long enough for the issue to occur again. If the service manager can't offer a creative solution for allowing ample time to reproduce the issue, I'd mention opening a help request with Toyota.

Please keep the details coming until this gets resolved once and for all.

I've taken everything out and been leaving it unlocked everywhere I go and at home. It normally would go off within 15 minutes to an hour (never consistent) but yesterday was the longest after I got home at a little over 3 hours. I'll be going back next Saturday when they open and I'll sit there all day until it goes off. They did see a voltage drop from when I jumped the company car but they said codes were well expired, not sure what code because a CEL never came on.

I think there are codes that don’t trigger the CEL. They are hidden and you need Techstream to see them.

Ok so this started on Friday the 4th which was the day I jumped the car off and I never noticed until I got home . On the 9th instead of driving the company car to where I was working I decided to drive my truck to the business for two weeks while leaving the fob inside the truck. Today was the first day back at the office the truck was locked and the alarm never went off all day. Now that I'm home it's acting crazy again. I took the spare fob apart and removed the battery still going off. Why does this only seem to be happening at my house? I bought the truck in December 2019 and this never happened until the 4th of this month what could be going on!?!? It's driving me nuts and nobody knows about it besides me, my wife, and I would assume my neighbors.

Did one of your neighbors get some sort of security system or something that would set it off? Check for new Wi-Fi signals on your area. Also try to go somewhere away from anything for awhile and see if it goes off, like have a picnic or something in the country.

I just checked and there is a wifi option that I haven't noticed before but then again I don't have to look for that unless a new device is added yet still a good possibility. I do live in the last house on a dead end street with no cul-de-sac and no new neighbors for about two years. The new wifi option does seem strange now. This whole deal has me close to making a tin foil hat so the government doesn't pickup the tracking device in my tooth filling.

I did an "experiment" where I took the spare fob apart and pulled the battery out for a couple of hours and the alarm was still going off randomly. Once I decided that the spare wasn't an issue I put it back together and hit the lock button with the spare, within seconds the alarm went off. I'm at my wits end because the dealer can't make it work and it seems as though it's only doing it at home. All while I'm sitting here typing with fob in hand and hitting unlock because the alarm is going off.

Thinking outside the box a little here. Did you recently get a new company access card? These cards can be using the same frequency as the toyota smart key 134.2MHz. Thinking you are leaving it in your truck while at home causing trouble. If not there is still other things to check out. Other type of RF transmitters. The toyota smart key system uses AM radio frequency just like the old AM radios. I dont believe it would be wifi or cell phone since they are so far from the trucks smart key system. They usually run up in the GHz frequency.

Good luck in finding the evil offender.

You should of just left the truck at the dealership. It’s there alarm. A loaner car should be available without a question. It’s nonsense for you to be dealing with this

No nothing new about the company car, it sat for 3 months without being started which is why I had to jump it. It stays at the office until needed.

Man I feel for you reading through this. Completely unacceptable for a 50k brand new truck... take it back and make them fix it. You are under warranty for this reason! Should be their problem not yours at this point

Why can't you take it to a local toyota dealer in Harrison, AR ?

I took it to the dealer I bought it from and they couldn't replicate it, today was my first test away from home being locked and couldn't replicate it until I got home and it acted up. The local dealer will not give a loaner unless you bought from them and there is a reason(s) I didn't buy from them. Their service shop is not open on Saturdays and I work 8:00-4:30 p.m. M-F but my wife works 3:00-11:00 p.m. and pretty much every Saturday overtime. It's a messed up situation that I have to work around and this isn't something I want to work around. I'm going to try to take it to my dealer first thing Saturday morning and stay until it goes off for them to 1. Figure out why 2. Figure out what to do to fix it and probably another week later 3. Have them fix it. Like I mentioned earlier today was my first test in over 2 weeks that I either wasn't home or at a business that I left the fob in the truck so it wouldn't lock.

Clearly you have an RF signal local to your residence that's triggering this. Several years ago my key fob would lock/unlock and set off one of my co-workers car alarm. I promise you, I had quite a bit of fun with that before I let him in on it. I would start eliminating everything that emits a signal in your house and then spread out to your neighbor. I did a quick search and it looks like some garage door remotes use a frequency close to our key fob. May be a good starting point. Hope this helps

This is nuts. I can’t believe that another RF signal would cause this much of a headache. When does he get to the point where he has to install an aftermarket alarm? I’m guessing that there isn’t a way to disable the factory alarm without causing other issues.

Well, you now know that it’s only happening at home so it’s gotta be something going on there. Maybe unplug your WiFi for a bit and see what happens?

I wonder how difficult it would be to just change the frequency on the alarm? Might be easier than to check every electronic device on the block. lol

Fingers crossed I disabled the Dyson app on my phone for my Pure Cool and it's been over two hours with no alarm. That is the only signal along with Bluetooth I can think of going to the truck with my phone as the intermediary. I realized this after thinking that if I watch a YouTube video or play music on Pandora in the house it will show on my head unit when I get in the truck well after closing the app. This seems promising.
