Just cancelled my Directv last week. Did it via chat. Same experience as trying to cancel over the phone but I was able to work on something else at the same time. I just let them continue to type all of the great deals they had to offer. After each one i followed it up with a "No thanks".
The same person that cancelled my service for me also signed me up for Directv Now. I get all the channels I watched paying $158 a month for $35. Already had AppleTV on all of my tv's so it didn't cost me anything additional. I am happy with Directv for now.
My brother mentioned Playstation Vue to me after I started Directv Now. Playstation Vue seems like it might be superior. I may give it a try after my two months at half price from Directv Now.
Playstation Vue and Directv Now are available through apps on my Apple TV.

Awesome thanks. Our internet is pretty reliable. I’d love to save about $100 a month though. Apparently you can use your directv sign in credentials for the specific channel apps on Apple TV, Roku, fire stick, etc.
    is this accurate?

Yes, having a DirectvNow login allows you to sign into specific apps and watch all their content. Some apps it doesn't work with - like DiscoveryGo. For whatever reason they accept DirecTV logins but not DTVNow. I find myself using the channel's apps more often than DTVNow cuz it's on-demand and has less commercials (note that some apps are crazy-full of commercials - worse than live TV).

On a side note, I was accepted into the DTVNow Beta with the new interface and cloud DVR. So far it seems a lot faster and the interface is fancier. I haven't used the cloud DVR a ton but on first use it seems slow and (at least with my slow internet) it struggles to keep from constantly buffering.

For those of you with the Roku would you do it again or would you get something else? I'm looking at picking up either the Ultra or Premiere+.

I've been really happy with the Roku platform. Seems to have the best app support for all the streaming services out there. And as long as you get one of the higher-end devices like you mentioned, they seem to be pretty solid.

How far away is(are) your Roku device(s) from your WiFi router? How often does the signal drop and/or degrade while streaming?

I cancelled my DirecTv about a year and a half ago. I remember the girl on the phone asking "What are you planning on doing for your tv?" I told her, "I'm not. I don't watch tv anymore." Obviously this was a bit of an exaggeration but it shut her up. I had been paying roughly $110 a month for DirecTv. Now I watch antenna tv, use my Youtube app, and only pay for Hulu, which is $11.99 a month. So I'm saving $98 a month, and I don't miss any of those channels at all anyway.

DirecTv sent me an envelope to return them the data card that was in the receiver, but the receiver and remote they suggested I trash.

I'd do it again. I got my Roku Premiere+ prior to owning a smart tv, but I still use the Roku as I prefer the interface over my smart tv which has the same apps. Plus you can download more stuff with a Roku box.

Yeah, that's exactly why I'm looking at it. My smart TV's have some apps, but not the ones I need to get the channels I want.

Of course, but it's not like I didn't have high speed internet when I had DirecTv. It's still $98 less a month, any way you slice it.

I pay 83 bucks for direct tv internet and house phone. I have 4 receivers, 3 of which are wireless genie so I can set them up anywhere. I have all channels hbo showtime Cinemax etc. I don’t think the price is bad.

I did the same. Saved $130/mo. plus we were already paying for Netflix, Amazon prime, etc. But I added Hulu Live back at $45 and its been awesome. get live sports, all locals plus like 45-50 channels (mostly what I had on DTV) and 50hrs DVR. Using Roku for Netflix, Hulu Live and Prime video.

Only Lag I experienced was Super Bowl Sunday. just a few times had to back out of the Hulu live app and start over. Maybe missed a politically correct commercial or the patriots having their way with the rams for 30 seconds -1 minute, no more.

    Totally worth it for me

Not as bad of a hassle as you had, but they kept insisting I could save $50 a month instead of cancelling. Kept telling them no, still spending $$ monthly when I dont want to be. Why spend money on something I am not watching. Been a year since I cancelled DTV and the only thing I miss is football. But I just stream the games I want to watch now.

I use to play the switch between Dish and Direct game. Direct was a real pain to cancel but not near as hard as cancelling my ATT land line. Now I just tell Dish that I want new customer pricing. Last time I negotiated they would not drop it any further. Since they lost the rights to carry HBO and Cinemax that I use that against them too. Problem is I cannot dump them completely because they are my only good option at hunting ranch. I can get some locals out of Belton, Austin, & San Antone but on cloudy or foggy days reception is not great.
