Yeah, pretty crazy. I’m in a few Sienna groups and lots of people are posting their “1 year of waiting” threads, asking if $7500 is too much of a markup, etc. We waited 3 months in 2021 for ours at MSRP. It’s been great, 33mpg lifetime on about 30,000 miles. No issues or unscheduled maintenance.

GH will definitely take some of the Sienna market, too. Hopefully they can build enough that the wait times won’t be so long.

We test drove an Odyssey but ended up deciding we're not minivan people so the Pilot and Tundra will have to do for us.

If they had said "full size SUV killer" I would agree with you. But they said "sequoia killer".

The Sequoia is only full size in its exterior dimensions.

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye out but the 200 series prices are just ridiculous right now. I refuse to pay $50k+ for a 7 year old truck with nearly 100k miles.

They are comparable enough for the typical person. There is plenty of crossover unless somehow BOF is important to many buyers, which its not.

My first impression of the GH was positive. I’m still waiting for the next gen 4 runner to see its design.

    It depends.

Owning a 2005 Volvo XC70 made my pockets short of $35k just in parts (I do everything myself, alignment included) over a course of 10 years. This is expensive. Adding a fraction of these money to get a truly reliable vehicles that can carry you and your family anywhere and with more comfort - not so much.

2016 Volvo XC60 could not even make it 6 months without a complete brake system failure and engine failure just one month past the warranty.

I understand our use case is maybe 1% or less, but I'm dedicated to showing my kids the glory of Aurora Borealis. With the current unfortunate state of automotive industry, it is only possible in Tundra or Sequoia. I pay extra for the body on frame, for the hitch cargo system, for the full roof basket, awnings, etc, etc, but the kids will see the planet.

I'm glad we bought wife one of the last new old Sequoias.

Very cool. Yeah everyone has different requirements and if yours is to see the northern lights, you will need some rugged durability. Love Sequoias, I was thinking mostly about my daughter spilling milk or son climbing in with his soccer cleats on when I made the kid hauler comment. As a family adventure vehicle the Sequoia is a beast. At least the old ones, all I know about the new ones is the giant sticker prices and what I’ve read on here.

I have a plan to take my kids to every state in the lower 48 by the time they turn 18. Sienna has helped out a lot. Loaded her down with a rooftop cargo box and took it coast to coast. I’m not going off the road in it though!

13 cubic ft with the 3rd row in use. Lots of room for all your bags, a cooler, etc...

To me, this is what the Highlander should have been all along.

Manufactures keep making crossovers because they know real men build trucks, only ladyboys buy them.

Sorry man. No clue what your talking about. I couldnt even guess the point your trying to make.

This is an SUV thread. Not a truck thread.

An suv thread talking about a big crossover. What is sporty or utility? Sounds like something someone who liked hairbands would like. Who's better van halen or van hagar?

Everyone forgets car makers make what sells. Toyota has a bunch of SUVs and Crossovers and this is just another one. It will sell like crazy just like all the rest of them. Remember who is the worlds largest automobile manufacturer.

Me personally, if I could afford it, would get the Sequoia. That thing is a powerful 4WD highway eating body on frame hybrid beast.

I don’t think the new sequoia needed any help. The fact it looks like a Ford pretty much killed it. But yeah, it now looks like they did it in on purpose.

The Sequoia never sold like crazy. Even before the pandemic they were lucky to break 12000 a year. Ford sells like 70k+ Expeditions a year(and then Navigators too) and GM sells >100k in just Tahoes, not counting Yukons, Yukon XL's, Suburbans, Escalades, etc). Literally just the Escalade outsells the Sequoia like 2-3x.

Thats why I am not so sure on how well this will go with the Sequoia if they are not appealing and the Grand Highlander offers competition from within. Lets be seriously, 99.9% of full size SUV buyers dont use them for anything but soccer practice runs.

Wait a second... I though it was 99% of SUV owners that used them for grocery getters. Now its 99.9%??? What's this world coming to?!? And where do this statistics come from - somebody's wazoo?!?! I tell ya, kids these days...

Based on my anecdotal evidence lol. I can probably count on one hand the number of FS SUV's ive seen towing a trailer or doing any offroading that couldnt be done in an Outback.

Barely enough room for a body... and you have to fold it in half to make it work. The sequoia can fit 2...
