Got Bed Bounce?

what exactly is the bed bounce that you guys are referring to? I searched on youtube and could only find this:

is this one of those things that you will definitely know if you have it?

 

Well crap I just ordered a trd sb and it should be at my house today. My previous ram I had installed one and it was great. Made that thing handle like a sports car. I wanted one for my tundra because of the roll in the corners and the wear on the outside edge of my front tires . And add the slow steering ratio it just felt like a turd rolling around the corners, especially up in the mountains. I hope I don't experience this bed bounce. I have felt a small amount on certain sections of freeway before . It would be nice to have some quick disconnects for It. I know it will limit me in the off-road department but I figured I could just unbolt it if I plan on getting crazy. So are some of you getting the feeling of having a swaybar by just getting different rated tires other than the stock Michelin's? LT tire, E rated tire?

 

No, that's just a bumpy ass ride. Any truck that runs over something like that would shake. I'm not an expert but I'll try to explain it the way I know it. The bed bounce we're talking about is caused by resonance on concrete freeways, on seemingly smooth road. Kinda like why the Tacoma Narrows bridge collapsed. The wind caused resonance to build up more and more until it finally gave. I've never felt it on asphalt, probably because asphalt is laid more continuously and isn't broken up into sections like concrete with a continuous pattern. It also takes a certain speed for it to resonate and cause the bounce. For instance if you drive down the freeway at 60mph and get the bounce, you probably wouldn't get it on the exact same stretch going 35mph. You would definitely know it if you're getting it, it feels exactly like the video of the shaking baby, but usually not that extreme. I'm fairly certain all our tundras have this problem at stock, some just haven't been on the types of freeways that can cause this. And mods can either make it better or worse.

 

I'm dissapointed with how clean your suspension is.

 

I just read a thread the other day where everyone was absolutely raving about how great these things are. Today I stumbled on this thread where they are absolutely horrible and unnecessary unless you are towing. Since towing is mostly about straight line and one would hope you would take it easy around curves while towing, I'm not understanding how a sway bar would have anything at all to do with towing.

But I digress. I guess as with all things, forum threads should always come with the disclaimer - YMMV

 

New member here, was wondering if you guys also have the same issue for the rear end bottom out / soft rear end suspension? Its like when you hit a water channel "dip" in the road, and the rear end just bottoms out and hits the bump stop hard. The Tundra feels like it has very soft suspension in the rear end. Is this normal for these trucks?
I'm coming from a 2006 Tacoma which had somewhat the same issue... not as "soft" but definitely not much travel before it would bottom out on small dips and such.
Also, I wonder if bed bounce is less noticeable in short bed vs. long beds?

 

It is just adding weight to the rear of rhe truck....why not just buy a big stout after market rear bumper instead.
Would do the same thing, except look good, and add protection when some careless fool runs into you.

 

What is the best way to combat the bed bounce issue? (without the sway bar) on a stock truck? What mods specifically would help reduce this issue drastically? (Other than adding weight to the rear). For some reason I have been getting the bed bounce pretty badly. Sometimes as severe as the video with the baby. I usually fluctuate my speed to fix it but as I go back to cruising speeds it comes back. Very annoying.
Would the Bilstein 5100 shocks for the rear fix this issue at all?

 

i saw that on another forum as I was researching this issue. Its kind of expensive... like $550.00 plus install price.. I was looking for a somewhat cheaper alternative that fixes the issue as well or somewhat close to the Sulastic vid above. Thanks for the input tho ColoradoTJ. If funds are available I might get that.
Anyone know if the Bilstein 5100's help the bed bounce issue? Those are on the cheaper side lol

Do you have the complete BOSS kit installed on your truck now? Front and rear? You don't have the add-a-leaf from Toytec right? Just the adjustable shackles w/ the BOSS shocks? Any blocks added?
I really need to do something about this horrible rear suspension on the Tundy... it feels like the shocks are blown in the rear (or missing a leaf) as it bounces so easily over small dips and bumps and usually normal suspension would stop the bouncing of the bed / rear after one or two bounces but sometimes it just keeps bouncing after the bump (depending on the bump size)... I'm brand new to the Tundra so this is alot different then i'm used to.

Thanks guys for the input and help... but i just found that I have a blown rear shock which is causing all these issues for me. Shock fluid leaked all over the shock and ground. So I Just bought the Bilstein 5100 kit (front and rear) from autoanything.com. I attempted to buy from Toytec (cheaper and better service) but for some reason they could not take any of my cards.. (definitely was not an issue with my cards).
Anywase, Ive heard nothing but good things about the 5100's so i'm looking forward to installing them this weekend.

 

I love my trd sway bar. i only get bed bounce when I jump my truck though....or go over speed bumps at 60+ Corners like a sob.

 

Unfortunately no, this was a very strange issue and I was back and forth with my bank and Toytec trying to figure it out. Long story short, the issue was on Toytec's processing side. It would not accept my 'billing address' with any of my cards. Talked to my bank, who updated the billing address to make sure it was accurate (takes affect immediately) and it still would not go through. Had my bank check if it was being blocked and they said "no, it looks like Toytec is processing the payment and then cancelling it each time." I made sure my bank was not blocking anything and they assured me it was not on their side. So i went to autoanything.com and bought the shocks with my card i tried to use at Toytec with NO issues at all. Worked flawlessly. It was unfortunate because Toytec was cheaper and the guys on the phone were cool as hell. oh well.

I'm still looking for a fix. I have coach shackles and the TRD SB. I know the SB can add issues but before it I almost didn't buy Tundra due to the body roll I felt while test driving. I have an SR5 not a pro. Maybe I will try the boss adjustable on the rear then.?
