Exactly if you look at the impact compared to oil drilling (fracking is a different story), mining for metals and minerals used in batteries if far more damaging to the environment. Look at a lithium mine or cobalt mine compared to an oil well site. Unreal

Because electric vehicles are not mainstream. You will need a "model T" of electric vehicles before gas cars and trucks could be phased out. If Musk's goal at Tesla was to revolutionize and disrupt the auto industry, it's not gonna happen with $150K cars.

I don't think GM is not keeping up with the wave of change and do believe Toyota should take some notes soon if they already haven't.

All the personal stuff aside (gas vs electric, America vs Japanese) I always feel horrible when layoffs this massive happen. I survived Order 66 at Target when they nicked 10% of their corporate staff. Fucking horrible. Then after "The Breach" another wave hit and my wife got sacked after 17.5 years. I can't put into words how horrible she felt. The day before she was working with people she had known for a third of her life the next day they were gone. Sure she can see them outside of there, but it still ripped a hole in her.

I'm not saying, that I don't understand that these things happen. It just makes me sad for the people that it happens to.

I sure wouldn't buy a GM vehicle in the near future, not with soon to be laid off, pissed off employees on the assembly line. I see a lot of warranty claims in GM's future.
I do feel sad and have much empathy for their workers that are probably feeling much anxiety and thinking what's next.

    Exactly.

The vehicles that are getting slashed are not great vehicles, and cost more than the profits.

Most of these jobs are Contract/Salaried Workforce, and jobs were temporary anyway.

I think this is being blown out of proportion a little lot.

my coworker has a Volt. he likes the car for commuting but early on, one of the motherboards fried...cost was $5K...warranty work but still...those cars, as they aged, will cost a lot of money to fix.
for a lease ,they should be ok though :)

I think that’s pretty cool looking except for the grille area. I would probably add a black vinyl in between the two oval holes to give it a pho grille. It would be cool if you could bring a generator with you to charge it up out on the trail. Add a few solar panels as well. That thing looks pretty capable. I would probably want to relocate the spare and make it look like a old bronco.

Except for the ones that can constantly charge themselves using the brakes and/or solar, electric cars are a huge fraud that we tax payers subsidize in both production & retail sales phases. Buy and drive what you want, but don't force the tax paying public subsidize any part of the process.

I had a 2016 Silverado 1500.. It was ok but had weird issues I didn't want to keep for the long haul and it was a Double Cab, no room in the back. Was i to go back and get a GMC or Chevy Crew.. probably, should I? no. I didn't want to deal with their BS, "it's normal" answer.

They may be reliable enough but I don't want to learn the hard way. LOL I'm not that rich to just throw money at the shop whenever they ask for it.

Guess we have different experiences, due to different trucks. I wouldn’t own a 1500 gas anything except the Tundra. Cylinder shutdown just really turns me off.

I couldn’t own the GM double cab. Way to small for my comfort. I’m kinda surprised they even waste the effort on this.
