All Tundra 4X4 versions should have a true LSD as standard. And Eaton style locker optional IMHO.

I agree. I don't like a lot of chrome either. Guess what? I couldn't find my current truck with painted grill/bumpers/door handles...etc. There's chrome everywhere...it's ridiculous. I finally came to the conclusion that I purchased what I did for a grip of money...so now I have to deal with it.

Pro it up! Those trucks kick ass, but you will have to pay for it. The point I'm trying to make is: what is the other guys offering at this low price point? So you want less chrome, what's out there for the competition in a SR5 price?

So for a power folding mirrors, 360 camera, cooled seats...you know what the competition trim level thats at right? With ford (only one that offers it in 1500) is Lariat and above with certain packages. These are 50K plus trucks. My FIL has a 12' Lariat that doesn't even have folding mirrors and he puked 50K for that thing 6 years ago.

I consider myself a "techy" person but I keep my vehicles a long time, and prefer to avoid the heavy integration they do these days.

The "cutting edge/high tech" trucks today will be old in 5 years, and with few if any ways to upgrade.

Meanwhile my with my low tech Tundra, I can swap out my Pioneer deck with the latest 2DIN model and get things like wireless carplay.

If I was a lease customer, bring on the "features"!

At least a rear locker on the 4x4 models.

Well that would bring up the cost by more than a "few" thousand dollars...

Agreed. Could you imagine what a selectable locker would do for these trucks?

    Then again, we have ARB's.....

I feel sorry for the dad in the Ford commercial. He has to watch his son use a button on the dash to back the boat trailer up. What do you even say when you find out your kid is transgender?

Well men, I have been up since yesterday at 3 PM. As much as I like a great debate, I need sleep. I'm sure in 6 hours from now, this should get interesting.

I would like to leave you all with this:

The Tundra is a great truck. I wouldn't own any other 1/2 ton right now still. I've been saying this for years.

Why I got on this thread is I see a few people complain about their "low tech" Tundras, and I do believe in my first post in this thread, debunked that rumor.

If someone would do me a favor, pull up on Edmonds.com a SR5 options, and LT GM options, and a XLT and we can compare this "tech" that we so yearn for. I haven't seen it. I have a good friend that just purchased a LT Chevy, and I can say the SR5 is better equipped. We can't compare a Platinum Tundra to a SR5 Tundra, and surely can't compare a Denali to a SR5 either. It just isn't fair or right. We can all dream about what we would like to see for little to no money, but in reality....

If you find a Landcruiser drivetrain for cheap to install on your Tundra, I will drive or fly out and help you install it.

You are correct, price isn’t really my driving factor though. I just want what I want. I want a 2019 pro badly, but I feel like the redesign is in 2020. I could see a lot of these things i want being integrated into that model. Including lockers. I don’t go desert running, but I do go through some nasty stuff on the Texas coast that is very very very easy to get stuck in (fishing)

I guess for me I will just have to wait and hope they release info on 2020 soon, than I can make my decision.

Ultimately though to your point, I want to keep this truck for 20 years. I am reliability first. And the tech stuff does break. I have the money for a raptor and may go that route, I just don’t trust its reliability. I feel like Toyota could do a very good job on the pro. It’s already priced out of a lot of people budgets and doesn’t offer a ton of value for what you’re paying. Some minor tweaks and turns would really do a lot for it and put it in more of a competitive stance. I would happily pay for a tweaked TRD pro 60k. I just like to buy as much stock from the dealer as possible. Ive modified many Toyota’s, some drove great, some liked crap. It is however, just attractive enough for me to keep my eye on a black 2019

 exactly if you know how to drive you don't need all that extra shit all that high tech crap will eventually start malfunctioning then you will be wishing you didn't have a button to start your truck I have never like that push button start my wives highlander has it and that is one of the features I hate the most on it Im a bit old school and prefer a key just more reliable

I met my boss down in Houston a couple of weeks ago and he showed up in a 2019 Laramie Longhorn edition. He had bought it the day before. The inside looks like an airplane cockpit. Buttons and switches everywhere. He said it was way too much but he always buys Rams. I got to drive it a bit and it didn't have the get-up and go of his last couple. I was surprised by this since his last one would push you back when you romped on it.

It did look great on the outside, but the inside is sorta ridiculous. The Ipad Pro size display I called the "old man screen" because he won't need reading glasses to see whats on it. He wasn't happy with the AC, and the seat coolers weren't great. They aren't great in my wife's Highlander either. The nav took a bit to figure out when we tried to cancel a route. It kept fighting us until I broke out the manual and figured out how to shut it up.

Personally, I hate the dial shifter. I picture the truck rolling off the assembly line with its head down like my dog after being "fixed" at the vet.

I'm not going to lie, if someone gave me an extra tech'd out truck, I'll happily drive it. But I live in the real world with a modest budget and I'd like some resale value, my family depends on reliability. The Tundra fits the bill!

All I'm saying is that GMs are better-equipped for the price. Crewmax SR5s in my area are going for ~$40k, here's what GM offers for that price:

    https://www.beavertongmc.com/Vehicl..._Box_4_Wheel_Drive_SLT-Portland-OR/3113241783

Leather (seats & steering wheel), heated seats, actual "premium" sound, Android Auto/Car Play.

I also know you don't believe me (and I can't prove it because it was 3+ months ago), but 6.2L LTZ Silverados were being advertised at $38k at a local Chevy dealer. I'm sure the incentives will allow that price again, so I'll be sure to watch out and post it for you. :D

Anyway, I think we all agree that the Tundra is the best 1500 you can buy, all things considered.

My DTS made me move to the Honda Crosstour. When I was looking at trucks I looked at the Escalade and opted out. I looked at the Avalanche and it was the same as the Escalade with all of the gadgets. I’m in the Toyota and the Honda and I’m just fine.

If I want toys - I’ll go in the house and turn on my stereo - which will be upgraded soon. I don’t need toys on the road - I need muscle

How much money does that GM truck depreciate compared to the Tundra after 3 or 5years? 'For that price' may look good up front with that GM. Maybe not so good at trade in time. That is a good deal on those 6.2L Rado's!

I made 13,000 buying new silverados and selling them 1 year later. That was on 2 trucks. I got a smoking deal on it New and turned around and sold it. Trade in not so much. Private sale you can make a killing if you shop the deals. Especially manager demos. Both trucks I sold had less than 8,000 miles on them and smelled new. Both were managed demos

All I can say is that I was a Chevy guy for twenty years. They all left me stranded more than once. It has yet to happen with the three Toyotas and two Hondas I’ve had. (One Honda is brand new though)

My first vehicle was an 89 Silverado my grandfather handed down to me. It was better than any of the others I had later. Changed the transmission at 220k, the motor at 240k. It would blow a starter at least once a year though, and pretty much every other part on it went out at some point. That said, at least it was super easy to work on. Alternator right on top, starter right on the bottom. Didn’t generally have to take any other parts off to get to what I was fixing.

And I damned sure didn’t have to take the grill off to change a headlight bulb like we do now.

Yea I've been wanting to do LED bulbs but can't bring myself to have to take all the front end apart to get to them. I know I can do it just don't want to do all that.

I'd get behind that technology but I'm not sure the law would feel that way...

Awesome thread guys, "ColoradoTJ" makes some valid and interesting points

I came from a Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer edition when I purchased this truck. At the time, I didn't want leather seats, only because of the way Ford interiors destroyed so quickly from use. When shopping Toyota the price point for the SR5 was right on the mark. Sure some of the features are missing, but those were addressed in the 2016 models. At the time I did what was best for my pocketbook, and get me truck that I felt was better at reliability. Around here we have a huge mix of brands on pickups. But the I see a lot of high mileage toyota pickup trucks still holding strong. Couldn't really say that for my Fords....I was disappointed. If the big three start producing a reliable truck, I might just swing back.

We all want more features at a standard. I think if Toyota wanted too, it would happen. A key fob, I would pass on it. The new laws out now, require that stop and go tech for better fuel economy. I recall and Im not entirely certain, but I believe after 2018 you will not be able to disable that feature. Safety features such as blindspot and others should be a standard. A lot of us still utilize ½ ton pickups for work duty. I can't say honestly that I really dislike my truck, it hasn't let me down, the service people from my dealership have been great, (took 3 dealerships to find these guys). The Fords I owned were not so great, every time I went I felt like I treated mediocre, but damn if they didn't charge me like I was at a BMW dealership.
