Do I really need to buy a truck with all these bells and whistles that I already have on my phone?
My freaking head, neck, and spine articulate and I pay attention to traffic front and rear at all times so I don't need a 360* camera or hokey ass blind spot monitoring.
I have two knobs and a couple buttons for climate control that are efficient and I know exactly where they need to be set at all times.
I don't buy into that "high tech" bullshit because that is all it is. I already have all the same stuff without the reliability issues.
I AM NOT DOING WITHOUT DICK FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has become my signature response when someone brings that shit up....

I see this thread going great places. Here's what I would like to see in a future Tundra (as a heavier option):

    240A alternator
Full-floating rear axle with some extra ribs in the carrier and housing
    3-inch wide leaf springs
Stronger frame (at least aft of the cab)
Slightly larger front differential (The weight rating of the AAM 9.25" in the front of a gas powered Chevy 2500 is only 4400 lbs, not much more than the 3950lbs of the Tundra 8.7" front differential)

I want a Tundra with bulletproof armor plating. Kevlar run flat tires, with standard supercharger. 3 Sexy yong virgin women and 1 billion dollars ($1B) added to the bed in large bills every time I drive and park the truck. Now, is that too much to ask??? After, we are all smart hard working Tundra owners, so we deserve to be rewarded:spending: Can I get an :amen:

I traded in my Cadillac SRX for a “basic” 2017 truck with all the bells and whistles wife has an 09 Lexus that is still rocking with little issues which convinced me to look at Toyota. . I have a SR5 and it does everything I need and honestly use. All those luxury and safety features I really didn’t use- and that shit was so expensive to fix- even the most basic things- plus no way you could fix it yourself.

I can understand why car/truck mfrs are doing the high tech features. Most folks want them and it's the way it is. Drives up the cost for new buyers and it's very profitable as long as the high tech crap works like it supposed to. I like being old school about certain things. It's all good.

I have a 2010, so maybe the 18's or even 19's have some of the things I would like. My Dad has the newest generation Highlander and I really like the luxury package it has. My next truck (hopefully a Tundra) will have.
    -Air conditioned seats.
    -Auto dimming rear view mirror.
-Same or better entertainment system/nav that the Highlander has.
-Power seats with 3 set memories.
-110v outlet in the cab and the bed. My Tacoma had this and even my Matrix has this. I use them often.
-1 touch down AND up for all windows.

That's about all I require for more tech. I don't need a plethora of tech, just convenience features.

One of the reasons I bought my Tundra was the consistency of the powertrain (5.7L with 6-speed transmission). Toyota has now had over a decade to perfect this combination and I prioritize reliability over virtually everything in a vehicle. They do you absolutely no good sitting on a lift in the service bay.

Ford has had a ton of trouble with their Ecoboost, and I really don't want the extra complexity and unreliability of a 10-speed transmission just to squeeze out an extra 2-3 mpg. If I wanted better mpg I would have purchased a crossover or sedan.

Maybe a more efficient engine w/o sacrificing power and definitely auto up & down windows. Other than that I'll mod the shit out of whatever else I want on it.

I ordered my 2016 Limited without blind spot monitoring. My wife told me if I could not get her a new Sequoia without "all the automatic braking junk" she would rather keep the 2007 Sequoia. Every time I see the Ford commercial where the kid backs his dad's boat down a ramp with the dash mounted knob, I weep for this country. In other words, I'm with you brother. Sell me a truck that does what I tell it to not what it thinks I should do. Oh and I really don't care if the truck has superior "connectivity" only superior reliability.

    I mean

    - cooled seats
    - update the cheap plastic in the interior
    - give me at least an average radio
    - leather wrapped steering wheel (all models)
    - power folding mirrors
    - remote start!!!!!!!
    - leather/vinyl in an SR5

That about sums up my list. Not sure that qualifies as “tech” so much. I don’t like much of the safety stuff. But here’s some updated changes I’d like to see

But look at the new generations. I am a Gen Xer myself. Then you have millenials (good gawd) and the gen Z crowd. I don't know what millenials and Z have all in common - but they both share the love for tech. I rolled by a school bus stop on the way to work the other day - there were probably 30 kids waiting for the bus. All of them had their face planted in their phone. Nobody talking to each other, nobody looking up to see what is going on - just zombies on the phone.

I get the feeling that people are really losing the love for driving in general - it is just to big of a pain in the ass for them - they can't be bothered.

"Let's have our cars drive for us so we can continue watching our phones."
"I need everything done for me because I can't be bothered to learn how to do it myself."
    "What's a rear view mirror?"

Good grief. Shut up and get off my lawn you young whippersnapper!!!

I hate it. I officially have become an old man.

If I could have my way - I would just ask for two things for a Tundra:

    1. More effing payload.
    2. A manual transmission (yeah, that isn't ever going to happen).

I hear ya man, there's a lot of pretty boys buying these trucks.

I miss the days where Toyota trucks were owned by Toyota truck fanatics who liked how simple they were.

all the bells and whistles are for the bitches.

Funny thing happened yesterday. I pulled up to my kids school to pick them up and a 17 Tundra CM pulled in beside me. I told him "Nice Tundra, how do you like the beast?"
Right off the bat he complained about the fuel mileage. Best he has seen is 14.7 mpg, but other than that, he enjoyed the truck except missing some features from his prior truck.
I asked him what he used to drive, and he told me a Ram 1500 Laramie, so thats a pretty loaded truck in the Ram market...equal to our Platinum market. He was driving a SR5 Tundra.
On the way in and out I chatted with him about what he can do for mileage improvement. I asked him why he swapped from Ram to Toyota. He was honest and said his Ram was a nice truck, but had some gremlins that caused dealership visits. Nothing that was mechanical, just little stuff.
I pointed out, that if his only complaint was fuel mileage (which wasn't but 1 mpg better due to the 8 speed trans), would he go back if he could? Funny, he just laughed and said "you know, maybe I should be a little more content that I don't have to waste my time at the dealership!" I also pointed out that he purchased a SR5 and not a Platinum, which would be the competing trim level. He took such a washing on trading in his Ram, this is what he could afford. I told him about Tundras.com, but I gather he is a pretty busy guy. He forgot his kids were getting picked up by his ex that day, so he rushed over to pick up no one..LOL!

My point is, compare like trucks. Do you guys think a SR5 vs XLT or LT is much different? In the upper trim levels, there might be a slight option differences, but nothing I wouldn't purchase a Tundra vs whatever.

Let's look at some differences shall we? I'm going to look at a GMC 1500 SLT vs Tundra Platinum.

    First up, the GMC.

    https://www.edmunds.com/gmc/sierra-1500/2018/st-401734108/features-specs/

So the second to the highest trim package has split bench seats...nice.

The GMC has 8 way passenger adjustable seat. That's it, sell your Tundras.

4 one touch windows. This beats the Tundra with 2 one touch windows.

GMC has center armrest/cup holder. Since I have one of these GMC's, it's not that great. Mine stays up all the time. The cup holders are a joke and all drinks end up on the floor. I require no drinks in the back of my truck except if: water only with kids or they're adults. In reality, I really don't care. It's a work truck at the end of the day.

So GMC has On Star. Not going to lie, that's pretty bad ass. It is what it is. Just for the record, I don't subscribe, but when I got it free, it was cool. I still get monthly updates on vehicle diagnostics and how my truck is doing even though I don't subscribe. More of a ploy to get me into the dealership for service.

There are a few other little things like concierge service...same stuff you can get on your phone...and probably a lot cheaper. I also do not subscribe to this.

Power adjustable pedals. Again, these are pretty nice for final seating comfort. I have had these on certain vehicles since 04'. Now this only matters if multiple people are the drivers...or lets say husband and wife that swap vehicles A LOT. If not, this is only convenient to someone who is short like me at 5'9". Other that that, not a huge option.

This does not come with the Bose Stereo System. So for all the haters, yeah, an SLT will give you a shit stereo too..in the 1500. Not the case in the 2500/3500 series trucks.

So lets move on the the low tech Tundra Platinum shall we?

Right off the bat we get bucket seats. How comfy.

Look at that, we even get ventilated driver and passenger seats to avoid monkey butt. How nice is that? I bet the GMC owners pleather can really churn up the butt butter over a long trip...(this I do know man).

Tundra has adaptive cruise control. This is a plus and minus depending if you want a lift. Some have figured this out. I like it. Hell, this could stop an accident. I'm game.

Oh snap. The Platinum has 2 seat memory settings that ALSO include the steering wheel.

Ohhh....look at that...the Platinum has 12 speakers and a subwoofer. The GMC gets a craptastic 6 speaker system. Don't complain about your JBL system until you have heard one of the non-Bose systems. You will STFU.

So in closing, I have no idea what some people are taking about. The Tundra has options others don't, and the "others" have some options the Tundra decided to not go with. If you want more options...don't buy a SR5, or go look at an GMC SL. You will not complain anymore.

Out of all this gibberish I just typed, the only thing that is nicer is the On Star. I have airbag deployment, help is on the way even if I'm knocked the hell out. That's it. Period. End of story.

Now if we were talking about 3/4 ton and above trucks in the same trim, way more options. Then you might have an argument. However, I'm pretty sure Toyota doesn't make a 3/4 ton, so that topic is irrelevant unless you want to talk about the big three on a Tundra forum...which is stupid.

Enjoy your awesome Toyota trucks you purchased. It could be a whole lot worse.
