So I just came out to my truck after picking up lunch and there is CV grease all over the passenger side wheel well. It looks like the guy got a little too aggressive with the boot during the install.

I picked my truck up last night and the rear end is finally quiet. They had to replace the ring and pinion with a new set. They were correct, the pattern looked great on the noisy set. I took a look at the ring and pinion this morning at you can tell why they were making so much noise; the surface of the ring is just too rough. The shop also replaced my CV axle free of charge.

One tip for you guys, have the shop buy everything. This problem cost me an additional $1600 since I had to buy another install kit, gear set, and pay for some labor. Although they did give me a break on some of the labor, in the end I was the one that brought them all of the parts and hired them for just the labor.

Sucks it ended up costing so much but glad you have quiet gears now!

So did you go with motiv gear again? Did you Polish the new gears?

The replacement gears were ordered from West Coast Differentials by the Hollbrook Specialties. He said that he buys most of his gears from them.
