WTF - 13 mpg around town with lead foot! 295/70/18's Nitto Ridge Grapplers!

6112's top setting and 5160's rear! Trying my hardest to burn the ozone layer!

Installed the BullyDog BDX and tune and now I'm stuck at 9.0 MPG. Hasn't changed at all. Not sure if it's reading correctly.

You have no idea how bad the police are driving through Oakland TN...46 in a 45 might land me in jail or with a nice $150 fine as is :)

Sheeze. Sounds like Davis around here. But I was commenting more in regards about achieving 26.6 mpg. That Chebby at 65-70 wouldn’t pull that off. It’s probably more like 20-22 if you really baby’d It on the highway and woodland
Depend what kind of gears the truck had.

Anyways, another plug for the Tundra. I don’t give a s%# about it being below market for fuel mileage. I’ll take the hit at the pump compare to altverative of something being in the shop or out of warranty and costing me $1,000s. I’d honestly be happy with Toyota keeping the 5.7 around a little longer myself.

If you baby the tundra and keep it stock, it's possible to get what the window sticker says or damn near close.

Yup I agree, and this goes for all Toyota’s. I’m on my 3rd Camry as a work vehicle and I’ll easily hit over the sticker on highway mileage on longer hauls if I keep it at 70 or under, even with the AC on during the summer months. I think Toyota is a little more honest/realistic than others when it comes to sticker MPGs.

If you collected a highway average of 50 GM 5.3 owners or go look at fuelly, the average ain’t that high. You’re what they call an anomaly.

What was your stock size? I thought 275/60R18 was stock. Going up to a 275 changed your MPG that much?

I haven't even had my tundra a month yet but finally got to fill it up the other day. Calculated mine out to 14.77 MPG - dash display was saying that I averaged 15.2 so it wasn't off by much. This is a '16 CM 4X4 5.7L with mostly around town driving.

Stock is 275/65/18 on the TRD Offroad went to 275/70/18. Same width as factory. 1" taller. ~17lbs heavier each tire. Yes it makes that much difference. More aggressive tread = more rolling resistance. More rotational mass. Harder to get it turning, more work to keep it rolling, more brake required to stop it. Definitely can feel a difference. Anyone who says otherwise is probably understating it, because any truck forum I've been on it seems like folks who upsize tires or change suspension and in turn want to feel good about the financial investment downplay the drawbacks. Sure does look good though :D

Just human nature. But yeah if you change the tire or suspension you're going to notice a difference from stock.

Not sure about the majority of you guys but around here we have non ethanol gas 90 octane. If you can get it, run it 18% jump mpg. I'm dont really concern myself with mpg on my truck but the endless threads on here I finally had to give in and post something. 2018 DC limited 4x4. As of today thank average is 19.7.

    '16 stock 4x4 with 18's.

Live in a small town. Averaging 13.2mpg after a few tanks with fuelly.

I've checked my mileage on long trips before and typically average low 16's to high 15's. But I also run 80-85mph on long trips when possible.

GMs have always gotten better gas mileage than stated on the sticker, and in my experience, Toyotas have always done worse. My Rav4 sticker hwy 26 mpgs, actual never better than 24.5. My Taco never better than 14 mpgs after mods, 17 before. I have no reason to brag on GM, the truck was junk, but got good mpgs. I also drive like grandpa, mostly hwy, truck had dual exhaust, cold air, a tonnue and 8 speed on relatively flat ground. Here are some shots of my Fathers TOW PIG HHR....25.5mpgs and 26 mpgs at 70mph pulling ATV and Jetski from Florida, I make the run 5-6 tines per year. The last photo is the HHR unloaded average, sticker was 29mpgs hwy. I also made the same run with my Rav and Ski, never better than 21mpgs pulling. Unloaded, I could get 22mpgs+ at 80mph in the GMC, and thats a fact Jack. 24mpgs @ 65 mph on a 50 mile run was the normal.

Depends on how I drive my truck. Average around town 14-15 if not a lot of stop and go. Highway 18-19 with decent conditions and little wind. Speed over 70 will yield 18s speed under 70 will yield 19+.

Your pictures aren’t displaying the average, it’s the instant/current mpgs. There are times where my truck shows I’m getting mid 20’s for like two seconds. In my experience, going based off the dash display, GM’s are off from what the sticker states they should get vs Toyota’s. Fuelly is more evidence of this.

2017 SR5 DC 4.6L 2WD, bone stock, 16.9 mpg on the dash (like it's welded there), with mixed city/highway driving. It might nudge up a little on a long highway drive at 65-70 mph, but it will pretty much average right back down to 16.9 with my daily driving.

Edit: I suppose it's not completely bone stock...I did install an Undercover Flex bed cover. Intuitively, you would think that the bed cover would reduce the drag of the tailgate, but I couldn't tell any difference in the mileage after install.

3” lift, black step bars, aftermarket wheels, LT305/55R20 was this way when I brought it.
Just remember you will get better gas mileage in the summer, it is all according to where you live (in the mountains or in the city or in the country) and how you drive your truck every day And what your doing with your truck highway driving, going off road, or pulling a camper. If you drive 60 mph you will get great mileage, but if you really enjoy your truck and enjoy the power it offers you, then you will be like the rest of us getting 13-15 on good days. Enjoy every day like it’s your last.

I just recently completed a cross-country move in my 5.7 4x4 with 38 gallon tank. Over 1,600 miles, the Tundra averaged 17+ MPG. The computer would calculate 525 miles distance to empty so I would fill up basically every other time we had to stop for my wife’s AWD Sienna.

I was in 4Hi for a bit of the drive on snowy mountain roads. Running 80 MPH whenever possible on highways and interstate. I had the bed completely loaded and a Bakflip G2 folding tonneau cover on top. I was pleased with the fuel economy during my trip.

I just wish my truck could deliver that fuel economy under “normal” driving conditions!

You should learn how to hand calculate...those instant mpg dash readings aren't always indicative of the overall mpg.

For general topic of this thread: I've had 4runners (4.0l v6, 5-speed auto) that get 12-13mpg in city driving in winter conditions. Stock tire size, no heavy mods, but very cold weather (0F-15F) and a bit of 4wd. So a 5.7l Tundra getting 9-11mpg city, while its a hard figure to look at, isn't that bad when you put everything into context.

Also the high mpg numbers claimed by other 1/2 tons are over-exaggerated. A brief search through fuelly will prove why.
