Each side in this discussion talks about the "reality" the other side refuses to acknowledge. It's a funny topic.

For me, this is just about virtue signaling of the current administration and securing (buying?) future elections. They propose new rules/laws that will not implement anytime soon and that they will never be held accountable for. Then they leverage those promises during future elections against the threat of "returning to the old days".

It's actually a brilliant tactic if you think about it...

I think it’s more likely that we see a push to get people out of driving/vehicles altogether. Regulations/taxes making fuel oppressively expensive will help the powers that be reduce driving. Look at fuel prices in Europe

A few initiatives in the pipe, main issue has been more energy is required to be put into the system than what is taken out (renewables' efficiency will change this), here are two more example that may change the carbon/fuel landscape:

Some serious paranoia, victim complex, and hyperbole going on here.

EV are the future. IC aren't going away in my lifetime, and likely not yours either. They just won't be the majority.

If the voters of MA wanted this, and their elected officials delivered it, great. WTF cares, if you don't live in MA? Get a grip, consult regularly with your elected officials, and go fill up your Tundra.

An aging power grid is gonna be a major hurdle for this. Not to mention the disruption hurricanes and ice storm bring with them seasonal.

power companies are working to update and overhaul the grid as quickly as they can but theres a shortage of lineman right now.

Ev's are cool (maybe if they ever came in a manual transmission???), and the technology and associated infrastructure obviously has many hurdles to overcome, but how practicable would it be when you have an EV and are towing off-road, overloading / exploring / camping whatever - you won't be able to carry spare batteries like carrying spare gas/fuel in jerry-cans. No charging stations. Advances in Solar or batteries or EV motor efficiencies? hmm, maybe!?
Deep river crossings with an all electric vehicle make me nervous. can't compare to a diesel with a snorkel crossing rivers where the water is halfway up the windshield lol.
Driving across deserts in thick sand with heavy load, high temperatures - will the electric motors handle that?
I'm all for saving the environment, I love nature and traveling and camping and yada yada yada, I mean otherwise we wouldn't have such awesome places to drive our trucks off-road. But I also like gas/Diesel Trucks, manual gearboxes, overloading/touring continents, and doing things old school - apart from the technological and infra issues, I guess that is where the clash comes in... taking all the fun out of things, our perception of fun / off-roading / camping in 30 years time may be way different.
The one things is that they will be banning the sale of gas powered vehicles in 2035, so no need to worry, our Toyota engines will be at over 1 000 000 miles by then, and barely broken in yet :burnrubber:

    Why not?

Lots of naysayers. Who would have guessed 10-15 years ago you could look up shit on a Tundra forum on your cell phone, email, e-sign mortgage docs, buy tires for your truck, all from a hill where you have LTE coverage.

I look forward to Electric becoming more popular, but we need major infrastructure improvements. There are places like California which shut off the grid every time its windy because their ancient system lights things on fire. I can't wait to get an electric car, but Im not going to be a guinea pig. As far as I am concerned its still in early adopter phase.

I work as a technician for a natural gas pipeline up here in Maine. We, unfortunately, share the right of way corridor with a similarly named oil pipeline that we have nothing to do with. I've been yelled at by more granola-crunchers than I can remember about how we're the antichrist and killing all the fluffy bunnies and such. They're usually yelling while wearing their synthetic clothing, sneakers, etc, while driving their petrol-product vehicles. o_O I don't make the crap, I just maintain the pipe that it travels through for a living. Leave me the hell alone.
    :crapstorm:

That said, I'm on board with the EV thing. If Tesla makes their truck look less like a dorito and the bed more functional, or Rivian makes their truck look less like a frumpy hippopotamus, I'll consider..

I kinda view EVs the same way the first cars were portrayed in Monte Walsh. (Good movie if you've not seen it) They may be the future, but they cannot compete with the current horses of the day.

Well, right now - you won't, size weight etc. Thats why I said, a lot of hurdles to overcome, especially when it comes to certain applications. Things will look different in 15 years no doubt.
Not naysaying, just my 2 cents on what concerns me about using the technology, in 15 years it will probably be more practicable to carry spare batteries, if they are smaller, lighter, more capacity etc (maybe won't even need a spare). It's going to be an interesting journey. Necessity drives innovation.

Same with robot vacuums. I'll pick one up right after I take delivery of my all electric Tundra with 1000mile range. Love the idea of both but got to wait wait wait.

Ban? No. Make owning a gas-powered vehicle a lot more expensive? Probably.
