Idiot pols don't know schit about anything. This country doesn't produce enough electricity to support a ban on petroleum fueled cars and trucks. At least there would be plenty of petroleum base reserves left to produce lots of tar. Not sure about the feather reserves, however.

Electrification will happen. But we do not have the proper infustracture to make it easy and affordable. Hybrid, PIHV, Electric and Hydrogen will be the new norm.

I personally want to have a Toyota powered V8 twin turbo and supercharged Hydrogen Plug in Hybrid. I'll add that to my bucket list.

You put enough wack jobs in positions of power and you can scream as loud as you want and as many times as you want that it won't happen for reasons x y and z but those wack jobs in power will find a way to ban petrol. We have the constitution and all some pppl in power want is to get rid of it. Chip away little by little and boom one day you will say " hey where you go"?

    But sure it couldn't happen.

Shall not be infringed. I laugh everytime

Tesla about to start pumping out 10,000 supercharger stations per year from chinese factory. That will eventually start to put a dent in the fuel biz, especially since you can plug in your car at home too. Make it easy for people to drive cross country in an ev and more people will hop on board. No need to ban fuel, just let the technology progress on its own.

I however luv this 5.7 v8 and 20 years from now I hope to still have it.

I will say the only way EV's will catch on is if the prices come down and the charging times come way down..

Toyota along with panasonic are leading the charge to this. Solid state battery tech, look it up. Toyota has over 1000 patents! 621 mile range with a 10 minute recharge. Gas will go away. They look to have a working prototype within the next year or so.

EDIT:. Forgot to mention the solid state battery will maintain 90% of it's performance throughout a 30 year lifespan. If Toyota can pull this off it's gonna be huge for them

It's a great headline, but electric engines are nowhere near as reliable for trucks. If you need to move your 6000 lb Tundra on a 1000 mile road trip, how can you trust an electric grid organized by the government?

If 70% of all goods in the US are moved around by trucks (many diesel), will they follow a different standard? So many unanswered questions. It's one thing to require electric engines for 2500 lb compact cars moving around a city carrying nothing, it's another thing entirely for trucks who need work done, hauling or towing thousands of pounds daily.

There was a video on this on TFL.. basically the Tesla towing went from 300 miles range down to 100 miles... https://tfltruck.com/2019/11/forget...tric-trucks-have-these-two-major-flaws-video/

Someone please explain to me how it’s going to be cheaper or greener for everyone to use an electric vehicle if the electricity required for everyone is most likely to come from fossil fuels rather than renewable energy? :notsure:

I will. All the enviro-idiots are pushing to ban anything that uses oil. Currently they are ignoring the fact that electric vehicles generate more pollution and waste BY FAR than gas vehicles in their production and destruction. Part is due to the toxic elements required for the batteries. Most of it is due to how they have to retrieve, process, and transport the raw materials for the batteries. Rare Earth Elements are called that because they are RARE. There are not enough resources to build enough electric vehicles to replace all the oil-burning vehicles in the U.S., much less the world.

But again, the people pushing for this are WAY too stupid to see all of this.

Or the fact that you have to strip mine lithium to make the batteries? But it's ok because it happens in a third world country with no safety or environmental legislation where the celebrities don't have to see it (as opposed to the Canadian oil sands, for example).

Electric is undoubtedly the future. Is it 14 years away from everyone driving electric vehicles? Nope. I'd say 50 years is a more likely option for 95% of vehicles on the road being electric. The infrastructure simply isn't there right now. And charging the vehicle is slow as hell compared to a fuel pump. So people's homes/apartments buildings would have to be retrofitted to have the power to charge the cars, places of work as well. The more electric cars being sold and used will require more charging spots. And where will this power come from? Who here has EV charging spots at work and ow many are there? How many of them are used daily? How many people work at that place? Now multiply that to the entirety of the three states involved with more to come for sure.

So much potential for great discussion on here, but so many of us peppering comments with blame and references to politics, so one more time we’ll lose the chance to discuss. Bummer we can’t figure out how to moderate ourselves.

Closer to topic: one of the coolest things I read last week was this info on discoveries about how to create jet fuel from CO2. Turning waste products into fuel could be a breakthrough on many fronts. If we could keep using and recycling existing fossil fuels, without further damage to the environment (petroleum or batteries, etc.), we might all drive our V8 Tundras for.EH.ver! :monocle:

Well, the OP was in reference to a third US state banning combustable engine vehicles. That is every bit political as it is environmental or technical or whatever else you can bring into the discussion. Hell, half the article is about governors and president-elects. Discussions can have several different facets. If you'd like to discuss the purely technological aspect of the various available energy sources (which is certainly interesting), perhaps start a new thread with some ground rules so no one gets offended by other people's opinion on the subject.

    Good morning!

I don’t have to start a new thread with new rules somewhere else on this forum; I meant to remind participants in THIS thread that THIS forum already has such ground rules. ;)

I agree with you, ‘politics’ are integral to most discussions. But snide comments meant to criticize huge swaths of people with opposing viewpoints— which were included in numerous posts early in this thread— are what this forum prohibits. Because I want us to be able to continue the worthwhile aspects of the discussion, I gave a reminder. Just last week, a thread I was reading in real time suddenly disappeared about a page in— because of such veering away from discussion to political criticism.

This thread ‘still alive the Next Morning though— so I guess we’re all still being civil in here. :D
