Those will work but youll have to expose the insulation a little bit on the cargo wire first. Those wont cut through it on their own.

Hey thanks for your help ! I think this is going to work out great. Still dont know if I will use the turn signal feature. I may hook it up and I can always cut it later if I dont like it .

No problem. Glad I could help. I have the red LED brakelight strip on the back of the truck. I'm thinking abkut upgrading to one that had the amber turn signals. It does the turn signals, just red. Havent decided yet lol.

I hate those things. Inside the cab it’s not too bad. But I’ve seen those things become a problem anywhere on the exterior. The service bed on my work truck was wired up with these, and over time the connections just failed and needed to be redone. PosiTap for a interior is the way to go. Less intrusive and almost removable with no evidence.

I agree. I used the crappy splice connectors because they were all I had. For further applications I will be using positaps though.

I starting looking at the wiring diagram today to figure out how to wire up rock lights to the cargo switch and came to the same conclusion as the forums about the magic brown wire! For any inquiring minds who want to know WHY it works here's the snip of the wiring diagram showing that the little brown wire is from pin 13 on the "DC" junction connector which is on the visible side of the drivers side main body ECU junction box when looking behind the lower dash panel. It can be tapped anywhere between the "DC" connector and the cargo lamp socket. Also for reference, there's no need to go all the way to the grounding bolt in the drivers kick panel, there are ground points under the truck so you only need to route one power wire into the cab, OR you can simply tap the white wire with black stripe in the same wire bundle. Toyota likes to use this color designation for ground.

Worked like a charm. $20 rock lights. Wires fished through the rockers with cell phone endoscope and holes drilled in center of body grommets near them for a clean install. Only 4 zip ties!

Man that's nice. Do you have a link to the rock lights? I think I want to switch to those instead of my LED strip - the strip looks cheap to me.
