A closet is already there. Basically we say game room as it’s open like that but in reality it’s a full bedroom.

My recommendations - demo, frame and hang the sheet rock yourself. Find someone to finish and texture the wall. Stop by a few, new housing tracts in your area and see if you can find a sheet rock finisher that wants to make some side money.

Access to a bedroom through the living room is a dumb idea. For resale, close that thing off just like you planned. But, hire someone to do it for you.

Take their opinions with a grain of salt and do your due diligence to watch some you tube vids. Not saying they have no idea what they're talking about, but often they have no idea what they're talking about.

I did a bathroom remodel that entailed removing wall paper and texturing parts of the wall to match existing texture. Also had a couple of odd holes to patch in as well. I've never done drywall but the principal is the same as doing body work on a car lol. Work it until its smooth and then prep for paint. In this case I had never textured either and was told by numerous professionals and Home Depot / Lowes employees as well to just "orange peel" the whole thing and call it done. Not one to take the easy way I chose to match the existing knock down texture and in all honesty that was the easiest part of the job and blended any imperfections in the drywall there may have been. The professionals that did our whole home tile and redid the tub and subsequent walls in the other bathroom flat out called me a liar and told me I hired a professional to have it done, I couldn't have been more proud. Its all about taking your time, watch plenty of videos and do a ton of reading on best practice. Its not that bad and if all fails it can always come down and start over or have someone do it with very little cash outlay in the scheme of things. And yes drywall dust for months afterwards...

You can do it Tony! remove trim until you're down to the rough opening (you'll see the 2x4s in the walls and the header above) frame it and maybe insulate it to kill sound from living room into sleeping kids room (or from game room into living room) nail up some drywall and then have a drywall guy do the rest. you got this!

    very little tools needed:
    demo-
    prybar
    hammer

    framing-
    saw
(so few cuts you could cut at home depot or by hand saw)
    hammer
    measure tape

    drywall-
    hammer
    drywall saw

    My suggestions
    You,
-Remove doors, door trim, and door jam.
-Frame in the bottom plate, frame in the studs. ("Frame" just sounds fancier than saying "add")

    Hired Contractor,
    -Drywall
    -Tape/float, texture

In my opinion most ppl are more than capable of doing all of it. But theres the time available, researching, tools, and frustration veritables that out weigh the time you could be spending on personal stuff vs the price to hire someone.

That said, demo is a hefty chunk on the bid from a contractor. Definitely take care of that yourself if cutting cost is something you'd like to do.

The framing is quite basic. You could find plenty of good youtube vids that will have you covered and feeling confident on getting it right.

Hiring someone for the drywall and finishing is where you can save yourself a bunch of time and curse words. Unless you have some experience, that is.

In theory, its super simple. But in reality, theres so many tiny things that will make getting good results a nightmare. And it shouldnt really cost anything crazy.

If I was closer I would help you get this done! Remove trim, cut carpet/tile and new walls as if nothing happened!

This ^^^^^^, I used to frame metal and wood, and hang sheetrock. Framing and hanging is the easy part, although if your putting up ceiling boards, that is a little more challenging. As @Stumpjumper said, the finishing is the hard part(ton of sanding) not to mention blending with existing wall. Hire someone to finish it the right way. Like my dad use to say....You want it done right or tonight :D
