So has this one. FixOrRepairDaily. I belong to a hunting and fishing forum and whenever someone posts a problem with their Ford i jump in with some negative comments. I hate Fords and there are plenty of F150 fanboys on both forums. Comments on Tundras are always about MPGs. I always ask why the only negative comments on Tundras are limited to MPGs. I usually say I would rather spend a little more on gas then repairs and having to get it fixed.

    A bunch
$5000 over 7 years is a lot nicer than $5000 as soon as warranty is up

I was biased in favor of ford trucks most of my life even though I never drove one. Remember watching the Ford truck commercials? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1xvdc1j7lU
Of course, as a person grows and learns, biases change. At least they did for me. Tundra hands down:bowdown:

I have said it before. Fords are the reason I started buying nothing but Toyotas in 2009.

I'm willing to bet most trucks in the 1970s were pretty tough and durable. Ford and Dodge started going downhill in the 90s. GM after 2013, mostly.

Pollution laws killed vehicles in the 80s. 1983 F150 351 13 mpgs and 160 hp. One good thing was the C6 transmission. Shift kit and cooler and it was bullet proof. Same on my 1987 except it had the 351 HO with eldebrock intake and holly double pumper. Service writer did not believe me when I took it in and said something is not right. He drove said it was fine. I said no it is not. Have you driven a 351 HO. Figured out floats were set high at factory and clogged the converter. He drove it and said you were correct this thing runs like a raped ape. Amazing how engine technology has evolved since then.

    I owned 3 Fords in a row - '95 F250 (it had the 7.3L Powerstroke - I LOVED the motor), '04 F150, and '13 F150.

I had some minor issues with the F250, and with the '13 F150; I had *zero* issues with the '04. With that said, all of them had 3 issues that eventually made me look further afield:

    1. Continual minor issues. None of them ever left me stranded, but they all had issues with seats wearing, plastic interior pieces, frozen locks, etc. I had the '13 with the SuperCab doors, and in the winter (below freezing) it would *not* stay latched. Ford said "nothing we can do, really."

    2. Recalls. Each of them had at least 3 to 4 recalls, and what is worse, I had to convince them - e.g., "I can't hear it" with the guy standing right next to the truck as it's running, while I'm HEARING the valve body cavitation. I had to essentially shame their techs into doing the work.

    3. Power. The 7.3 had plenty of power, but the '04 4.6L and the '13 F150 had little to no torque down low. It was embarrassing to be pulling a 20' trailer and listening to the transmission shift into SECOND to be able to tow at speed ('speed' was 60MPH).

#3 especially was what convinced me to buy what I considered to be the best truck for the money. I don't need to tow the 'most' - I just need to be able to tow WELL. Yes, I'm aware that supposedly the F150s have more towing capability...but I'm convinced much of that is packaging and lights and glitter. My '13 F150 on paper had more towing capability than my '20 Tundra...but it made 20 less HP/TQ, and made it FAR higher in the power band...and had 3.31 gears instead of 4.30 gears? Yeah...I'm not buying it.

The very things that people lament about the Tundra are WHY I bought it. The funny thing is that as supposedly 'antiquated' as the Tundra is...I have NEVER gotten this many compliments on any truck I've ever owned. LOL

I thought the pollution laws came around in the 70s. My dad's 74 Firebird made a whopping 190 hp out of its 400 cubic inch engine. He liked it better than his 80 Firebird though. (I'm not sure how much power that one had.)

Check out the problems with the new Coyote 5.0L V8, since 2018 with the plasma welded cylinder walls, its been oil burning like crazy. Replaced engines, etc. They made a huge mistake removing the cast iron cylinder liners.

Maybe late 70s. I had a mid 70 Mercury Capri an no pollution stuff on it.

Drive around behind the Ford garage and look at all new stuff waiting to be fixed. Warranty junk scattered everywhere waiting on the rep to show up. The saying there wouldn't be any junk if it wasn't for Ford still holds true.

Where is the speed limit 5 mph? Or does that indicate the trucks maximum safe operating limit?

I mean...you're not wrong. The service area at the local Toyota dealership looks like a wasteland, what with the lack of vehicles being serviced. Only thing missing is the proverbial tumbleweed blowing across. LOL

Meanwhile, the local Ford dealership is stuffed to the gills with vehicles being fixed.

    She’s a rental. Ford Explorer.
Lexus IS getting the front bumper replaced after some asshat backed into it and took off. I will say, their “limited”
Trim is like the platinum trim for Toyota only a few other goodies included. Fun car for an Ecoboost 2.4l with 300hp.
I know their platinum edition is 365, and of course their ST is 400hp with massaging seats lol. The ST is super fun to drive!

We really liked the F150. It was a close decision but the Toyota dealer wanted the sale more.

I put bumper Shellz on two weeks ago and some jack off backed into my rear driver side and cracked it all up. Of course they just took off. I’m pulling them off. If I do anything in the future it will be a good aftermarket bumper.

I get the same gas mileage with my 20 Tundra than my old 98 Ranger with the 3. slow. But it still sits in my garage unloved. Just don't have the heart let it go yet......

My new F150 4X4 that I bought in 1975 was already dogged down to 160hp. Built solid but gutless....bumpers back then actually served a purpose unlike the cheesy crap ones we get now.

for the last 3 years I've driven a '17 f150 King Ranch. Two months ago I switched to a Tundra TRD Off Road. Comparing them is worthless if you don't factor in the price differential.
If you want to drop 70k, the Ford offers many features the Tundra simply doesn't. The variety of available options with Ford is attractive. I miss my remote start, yeah Toyota has it, but it's on an app, much less convenient. It's annoying that Toyota requires you to get all the way up to a platinum trim before you get power folding side mirrors. My Tundra tailgate locks, but only with its own separate key (which adds more bulk in my pocket), not on the fob tied to the other doors like Ford.

The Tundra has a far more impressive engine than my Ford 5.0, but Ford makes other options. The navigation and interface on the Toyota are much nicer, but it's also 3 years newer. The Ford rear seats, when folded up, leave a completely flat floor. You can sleep back there! Thats the feature I miss most. It was amazing to fold those seats up and be able to slide in a mig welder, or a coffee table, even a small refrigerator. The hump under the Toyota seats is frustrating. The enormous sunroof on my Ford was great to have, but it leaked from day one...

All in all, I prefer the Toyota given the price, and I think it's better looking as well. It feels like a truck, which I like, whereas the Ford felt like a Cadillac. However, many of the little features that Ford offers are well thought out, and I miss them.

I traded my 18 F150 in after I spent 3k on Roush stage 2 performance upgrade. Dealer told me they had to program back to stock to fix the shitty transmission (10speed). Had 2 recalls and a 4wd vacuum broke in the first 10 months of ownership. Biggest POS I’ve ever owned. And I’ve had at least 10 trucks in 20 years. This is my third tundra and I keep kicking myself for ever straying from them. I told my wife to kick me in the nuts if I think about going away from the Tundra again!

I thought your Toyota dealer could add a power locking tailgate. Does that not work off the fob?

My tailgate is manual locking but uses the same key as the doors.
