I buy the case of assorted copper crush washers from Harbor Freight. Swap them out as needed. Haven't bought OE crush washers in awhile. No problems to report.

Why would you not use the 3/8 square to loosen the filter housing? I do that every time because I never had luck using the wrench on the plastic housing. (too slippery) The 3/8 square does not back out the smaller aluminum plug but drops the entire cap for me.

It has been known to crack using that inferior method. The 3/8 square should back out the smaller aluminum plug, so you can drain the filter housing before removing. It does work your way, just messier...

Yes it is messy, I wish there was a Fumoto valve available for the bottom of the filter cap to make draining that easier.

There is a small, plastic drain that comes with every filter you buy that is meant to drain that...72340BE8-8FBE-42C8-90E3-35A82DB0C6C1.jpg

Yep. Shove a piece of hose into it too to direct the flow and its even less messier.

I understand, my issue is when I turn the 3/8" square to remove the plug that the plastic drain piece is supposed to snap into the whole cap comes off. I am going to upgrade to the aluminum filter cap so maybe that will help.

It is definitely worth upgrading to the aluminum one. When I got my truck mine was all stripped out couldn't even turn the filter socket on it. Now comes off no probelm . Also like TXrails said swap out inside tube .

Damn some of you guys get fancy. The first time I pulled the housing then just cranked the drain plug for the filter into the housing. Now I can just turn the drain plug with a normal wrench and the whole housing unscrews easily. Saves time and it's not that messy if you just hold a drain pan under the housing as you unscrew it. Makes the whole process as fast and simple as a normal filter.

I can second using a socket and not the 3/8" drive. That is the one I broke after the goons at Toyota of Rockwall over tightened mine 6x+. The filter drain hose helps but it is still messy.

Pay close attention to the location of the o-ring on the oil filter cap.
It fits into a groove on the cap and not at the bottom like most o-rings/gaskets do.
I found this out the hard way on my first oil change.

It's been a year and just like Jrharvey02 & JohnLakeman said, The metal housing does fit the Tundra. Just make sure to replace the shorter center tube with the longer center tube on your plastic housing.

First time prepare for a mess. Second time still a mess but not as bad. Third time much better than before . Fourth time finally learned how to do it without making such a mess.
