like 99% sure it's the same guy. He got his first gen to a milly so Toyota was like "er mer gerd! Here's a free 2nd gen!"

Nope. Different guys. The famous million mile tundra was a 2nd Gen with the 4.7. He made it one million on the original engine. Toyota gave him another 2nd Gen. The first Gen I'm referring to was shared on the Facebook page. It was pretty rough looking.

$100 part and 30 minutes work per side for a normal person, but nope, now he's in for $6,700 to repair the truck. Worst part is, he mentioned noticing steering was weird leading up to this.

Change your balljoints people, but stick with OEM.

I know this is a pointless reply :deadhorse: but (just like every one else :facepalm:) he knew better and chose not to do anything about it thinking that he was somehow immune :smack:

Do they come as a kit? I’m curious if a kit version includes the dust guards since you cannot order the left one on an 02 (same part number and identical part whey they ARE in fact different)

This one is pitiful and I couldn't help but laugh. Looks like something out of a cartoon where every body panel just falls off after a minor wreck.

No kits for an 00 as it was not part of the recall. Toyota parts sites cannot identify the correct lower ball joint for an 00, so I had to do a lot of digging to make sure the ones I ordered were compatible. Still not 100% positive as the site said no compatible guarantee, but everywhere else I looked at showed these part numbers compatible with 00 models.

Here is my parts list. In the screen shot you will find the correct part numbers and bolts (edit: for the 2000) https://www.tundras.com/threads/1st-gen-lunch-table-general-discussion.60450/page-1984#post-3495496

I had no problem ordering left and right for my '02 from Ourisman Toyota, and both came with dust shields. Assuming we're talking strictly lower. If the uppers are different left to right, I'm in trouble...

I’ll have to double check that part with what I’ve ordered. I’ve never gotten the dust shields included in the two LBJs I’ve ordered in the past.

Now I'm actually waffling a bit...It might be that I reused my existing dust shields. I don't remember now. But they are at least different part numbers.

I thought joints are different but shields are the same. At least that's what I just ordered. Based on looking up the parts.

    Granted I have an '05.

    Here's for '02:

They’re physically not the same if you ever took a look at them (02). I should know, I’ve already been through it.

    I can’t comment on an 05.

I don't know about other dealerships, but Ourisman has been great about answering my questions. They usually respond to email inquiries within a day, and my experience has been concise, accurate responses.

For every best gen tundra person online, I’m sure there are 2 more that don’t bother to search on it and just purchase another no-name brand from a different manufacturer thinking it was a fluke.

I ordered 2 sets of LBJ (with bolts) for my first gens.

I ordered one set through a local(ish) dealer through the Toyota parts online program. With 20% discount and free shipping it was $270 total. The recall kit (04006-62134) does not show up as a number, so this order was for the individual replacements.

Then after reading this thread more I decided I didn't want to wait to do the other vehicle and I'd order another set (cyber bullying...). This time tried finding the recall set and ordered through ourisman Toyota (formerly mcgeorge I think), with shipping and tax was $245. Little less $ but other side of country so I'll be waiting a few days longer.

What's consensus on alignment after? My sequoia I'll probably do alignment regardless. But on tundra I'd rather wait until I get new tires when the BFG ko3 comes out with my size, hopefully this fall sometime.

No need to do an alignment if you're just replacing LBJ's. I had the same question a few years ago and that was the answer.
