Starting at 03 + the grills slightly change design. Difference is noticeable at the lower portion. Can't miss seeing it.

Yeah, I really don't like it. Maybe a new bumper? The chrome ones are clean.

I guess you don't see it, but your truck's front bumper looks good. I thought the straight all chrome bumpers were put on 2002 and earlier trucks until changing design in 2003. I have one of these and can say that's one heck of a solid bumper. Hit someone with that and it'll save you a lot of repair cost compared to OEM bumpers. Ck their videos, they go crazy ramming stuff, lol.

Nah, they continued putting them on the "work" trucks through end of the generation, I believe.

Not only that, but we know you can swap because they existed in later years. Pay special attention to reply #9.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/chrome-bumpers-on-1st-gen-tundras.107504/

If these trucks came with chrome bumper through '06 then there's undoubtedly a way to roll back.

If I'm not mistaken, @jImmegart rolled his forward to the new style.

OP, sorry to have hijacked your informative thread concerning various front grills available. Will stop talking about bumpers now.:hattip:

My truck is a 2003, so it came with the new style. I actually did the opposite and put a 00-02 style grille and lower filler with a resin bumper.

The work trucks continued to get the steel bumper with the updated grille for awhile after the 2003 switch. @empty_lord truck is that style. They did however, make work trucks with the resin bumper also so I'm not super sure the year they stopped.

To switch from a resin bumper to steel you do need a few things. I know the side brackets are different and the bumper reinforcement. A guy named @ESTundra937 swapped his whole 2003 style to a 2002 steel style front end but he hasn't been around for a few years now.

Here are the diagrams so you can see the difference.

Love the way your truck looks. Would you kindly explain a bit more how you were able to attach the 2003 grill to your 2002 access cab. I really like the way it came out.

Wow, everything is complicated. This came on my truck when I bought it. I don't know anything about it. The original grill also came with the truck. Originally thought I'd put the OEM grill back on, but this one is growing on me, if for no other reason than it helps break up all the white. These Limited models with the large white fender flares and white side view mirrors and white bumper trim are just...so...white....

    IMG_6049.jpg

I agree with another post I saw - it feels pretty flimsy. I definitely feel like I have to be careful grabbing it to pull the hood up. I'll hold onto the OEM chrome grill just in case.

Make sure the metal brace was transferred over from the oem grill to help with support. I forgot to do mine because it came with no instructions

I just want to get a Sequoia or earlier model "moustache" piece (the under-grille/under-headlight trim) and the classic earlier style grille (or a Sequoia) grille and slap it in mine.

It looks like the hood shapes are slightly different in the earlier model trucks using the rounded-style grille though. I'm mulling over hitting up a JY with a white truck to snatch those pieces just to tinker though.

Is this what you're talking about? I don't see any holes for it on the new grill. Did you just drill some holes or did your new grill have them?

That looks really good. Turns out the factory grill really started growing on me and I decided not to install this aftermarket grill. It's still sitting in my garage in the original box. I need to put it up for sale

Hmm. I'll look closer. I think the slot is there, but no screw holes.

Thanks for that tip. I never realized the brace should be moved over to the new grille. Much more stout now:thumbsup:

Yeah it adds a little weight and support at the bottom. Wish these things came with some Basic instructions
