Solid 8/10. Would read again. Stick with that 2G Sequoia for life.

I'm pretty sure we can get 300k miles with regular fluid changes. Even doing 30k miles per year towing over the Rockies it's not expensive or much downtime to swap in fresh driveline fluids yearly. Yota front diffs are a PITA to drain and fill with those ridiculous 10mm Allen plugs that tend to round out, so I bought Lexus 24mm hex plugs that are a direct swap. Maybe 500k miles is possible and that's the plan right now.

Having praised the 2G I guess there's some things that are good about the 3G. 35's are easy to upgrade to. Wider turning circle but that's the price you pay to easily upgrade to 35's. TRDOR package gets rear locker and the sweet Crawl Control for Overlanding ambitions. Easy to lift and upgrade rear coilsprings because SRA. Mike Sweers, get a non-hybrid SR5 out sometime down the road and I'll be interested.

For LC300 cravers, I see the LC300 has 83 cu ft max cargo volume https://www.locardeals.com/2022-toyota-land-cruiser/ A foot shorter with a shorter wheelbase, tighter turning circle. If I wanted to do an Overland build though, I'd prefer a hypothetical 3G Sequoia non-hybrid TRDOR for the cargo space over the LC300. I just don't understand why Yota decided to make the 3G hybrid only. And removed the Torsen center diff.

That's where we are though. You want a fullsize SUV? There's plenty of choices. Inexpensive ones are GM, Ford and Nissan Armada. However, if you want AWD/fulltime 4WD with 4LO GM and Ford require higher trim levels, so you're right back to expensive. I'm tabling a change until I see something that can top the 2G Sequoia for versatiility, reliability, ease of maintenance and low buyin cost.

I got info from my local dealer that TRD Pro MSRP is $77k with an additional $12-18K markup! No friggen way I'm paying $100k for one!

Yes this third row cargo area is disappointing. I just got a 2022 4Runner with the third row seat and the cargo area is a joke behind the third. However the new Sequoia seems to be barely bigger than the 4Runners. Granted the captains chairs option makes getting to the third row easier, especially with car seats (Got 2 kids + 1 incoming). The outside dimensions though are very similar to the 2nd Gen, I don't understand how the interior seems smaller. The gas mileage is better than the 4Runner too, so there's that. I sat in the back of a 2022 Tundra CrewMax Limited finally and immediately hit my head on the ceiling (6'3) vs. traveling in friends 2nd Gen CrewMax its like a limo back there. I would imagine the new Sequoia is about the same in size for second row. It's just a tough sell: 60/70/80K 3rd Gen Sequoia vs a 40/50K 4Runner vs 40/50K Highlander (then obviously people in the large SUV category would be cross shopping other brands but I am addicted to Toyota).

I think the Expedition comes with awd/fulltime and 4Lo by default. Even the base XL STX does. GM might not since they don't have a hi/lo t-case on all of the Silverados.

On the Toyota site, it says all Sequoias are 2wd only. Is that true? Also, hybrid only.

Yes, they are hybrid only. The Sequioa I drove in October was 4WD.

That may be true (2wd only) due to your zip code you input, the website will often only show local options within some time period. You can check using websites like autotrader to see actual dealer inventory, which may be presold but gives you an idea of what dealers are really getting.

This is the site I looked at:

    https://www.toyota.com/sequoia/2023/features/mpg_other_price/7946/7948/7950

    Shows 2wd only.

Ooof looks like they are all listed for 80k base models and 100k even for higher trims here. 5 listed new and used combined in this area.

Even at today's prices, I can't see paying $80k for a vehicle, no matter what it is or has.
It would have to be something I used to make money and it would have to pay for itself within a year.
Pay scales haven't increased on par with cost increases over the last few years. Who are they planning to sell these to?

first look out the gate a 23 TRD Pro used with 52 mile 113K plus I would bet a mark up on top of that???

They are bringing stupid money. I actually bought 2 of them to flip. (I know, I know, bring on the hate). Both are limiteds one is wind chill and the other is army green (TRDOR). I personally know of a dealer who paid 100k for a Pro last week.

I paid 3k over for mine and had to fly 500 miles away to get. Got lucky with this one, found on Toyotas build finder. I was contacting my 6 local dealers weekly for 8 months, I almost quit and started looking at GMC/Chevy. Paid 81k OTD with a 8yr 75k warranty. Got exactly what I wanted though, I haven’t seen another sr5 4x4 white premium trd off road with tow package anywhere in the US.

Congrats on the truck. The fact that an SR5 anything is $81k is mind blowing to me. That’s just about double what I paid for my ‘21. Also an SR5 TRD Off Road.

Thanks! yeah it is no doubt a lot but it’s double the truck of my 2017 4runner, so I was ok paying double. My 2017 4runner helped me pay for it. I bought in 2017 for 39k and sold it with 38k miles for 37.5k.

That’s incredible. A common and aging platform like the 5th gen 4Runner (14 years and counting) holds 96%+ of its original value after 6 years and 38k miles. I mean, 2017 and 2023 are wildly different markets. But still, that’s just insane. It will be interesting to see if these $70-80k and higher trucks retain value in the same way.

That hybrid drivetrain seems like a lot of fun, and I was really into the new Sequoias till I saw that they have less cargo volume than a 5th gen 4Runner. That’s a hard pill to swallow for a family of 5 and a dog.

my guess is 85- 90% when that time comes. Inflation is a major factor here. In 7 years the 2030 sequoia will be another 15% higher minimum. The same truck will be in the 90-95k range out the door. I agree that cargo lacks but we won’t be using it too much. It fits a family of 4 with two under 2. The towing capacity is the reason for purchase.

I think we got lucky finding a clean 2019 Sequoia SR5 with 66k miles for "only" $39k on Jan 15th. There aren't a bunch of used 2G Sequoias for sale locally. We already knew the 2G was badass so we jumped on it.

Looks very similar to me in size. The front looks like the front of a Tundra. No?

I like the front look in the photos but seen a few in the wild this week and from the rear/side they are a little weird looking? Dunno how to describe it. Saw a lifted TRD pro in cement/lunar rock that looked good yesterday. Looking at the markups here though that pro must be north of 110k and then 10k+ of mods dang.

yeah the ones here in AZ are around listed at 95-98k so OTD 110-115k.
