First 2023 Toyota Sequoia finally arrived. I was one of the first to see it and test drive it. There was ALOT of interested buyers! $20k markup though. Ya, no thanks. Interior was surprisingly smaller than I expected.

No way I would pay that markup.

It does look smaller, looks like a slightly larger 4 runner, which makes sense since they will share the same frame soon.

And that's only the Limited trim! Wonder how much the Pro trim will cost.

I wouldn't pay any markups, either. But at least it has a better lookin' front-end than the Tundra monstrosity.

it looks nice but 70k, before 17k dealer markup! How are people affording these suvs at 70-90k?! I feel like 5 years ago you could get pretty much any suv decked out for like 60k!

I guess I’m living in a dream world still

Dealers wouldn't do it if people didn't pay it. I refuse to pay over MSRP for a vehicle. I may not be buying a new car for a long while yet ...

I wish everyone would dig in and behave the same.

I saw it Tuesday, the day it came onto the lot. There were several potential buyers hovering. It definitely sold for the $89k asking price, or very close to it. I refuse to pay over MSRP. Got my 22 Tundra and my wife’s 22 Yukon AT4 both at msrp. I was thinking of selling the Yukon for the Sequioa but feels like we’d be downsizing a bit.

The nice thing about these egregious markups is that it significantly reduces the pool of dealers that many of us will ever work with in the future.

But least you’d get that weird afterthought cargo area with the shelf that makes little kindergartener cubbies underneath.

I don’t think it’s worth the $70k before the markup.

Cargo area and third row were disappointing for sure. I can’t really fit in the third row.

Until I saw these pics we were planning on switching from an ascent to the sequoia, but that 3rd row and cargo space looks… small. Looks like we’re goin 2nd gen

Yeah, had to do the important stuff first, like slapping that dealer's sticker up there beside the mfr's sticker.

That shelf is actually pretty nice. I was curious what they were going to do since the cargo floorboard was lower than the seats folded down. Leg room pretty tight in the 3rd row?

More than a bit. 123 cu ft max cargo space down to 87 cu ft max. For comparison, 2022 4Runner has 88 cu ft max cargo volume. A flat cargo floor is a big deal. Is the Yukon working well for you? Are you worried about GM valve problems?
Certainly doesn't appeal to me. It's beyond my ken why they designed the interior that way, and hybrid for all trims. I'm curious about how well they will sell and what demographic will choose the Sequoia over a Big Three fullsize SUV.

Scenario I (I'll use rentals for this because I believe a good portion of fullsize SUV sales go to rental fleets. Shopping for this '19 nine out of ten used SR5's were former rentals): Rental company fleet manager has to replace current fleet. He knows people rent jumbo SUV's because of cargo/seating volume. Why buy '23 Sequoia's?

Scenario II: I want to build out an overlanding rig. The cargo area that should be useful for me in a jumbo SUV? It isn't. I'm better off with a cheaper, more maneuverable offroad 4Runner.

Scenario III: I wanted an LC300, but it's NLA. The '23 Sequoia will do. It's an LC300, does everything an LC300 can do.
Disappointing is the correct word. I was excited before the debut, thinking this TTV6 with better mpg will be a worthy successor to the '19 when I can afford a used one in a few years. Then, blam, I see the goofy hybrid hump with non-removable 3rd row, hybrid only. I don't need 583 TQ. The tumble forward 2nd row is goofy, that cuts cargo length as well as cargo volume. No rolldown rear window, no multi-mode Tcase.
2G Sequoia 4WD is worth a look. Reliable and versatile. A good thing IMO is all were assembled at the Indiana plant. 3G Tundra production went to SA, Indiana had a 22 year run building 1G and 2G Sequoias. Great build quality.
The goofy cargo area design with hybrid only is a deal breaker for me. A cheap base SR5 TTV6 with a flat cargo floor would work. I'm reduced to looking at Expedition or GM to succeed this '19. That pisses me off.

Ok, my mega-rant is done. Feel free to rate the rant on a 1-10 scale.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
    Meh.

In the large SUV market segment this Sequoia now that I look at the actual interior volume is pretty much a non starter. Particularly if dealers think they’re going to mark them up.

I guess I would rather have one of the GM trio with the revised 3.0L Duramax, or a Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer with the new 3.0L I6 Hurricane and proven 8 speed ZF.

Leg room in the 3rd row is tight. I’m 6’3” and my head was at the roof (couldn’t sit straight without slouching or tilting my head). My legs didn’t have much room but didn’t fold the 2nd row back into position.

never owned a GMC before so was a little worried. I have the 6.2L and haven’t had any issues. I did opt for the 5yr extended warranty (I typically don’t do extended warranties) but got a great deal on it. We shall see. We really do like the Yukon so far though. I really did want the Sequioa but the rear cargo area seemed small especially with how much we load it up with sports equipment
