FFV is known to cause cancer in the state of CA, so it is illegal. In the United States you can buy and drive FFV without issue. If I had the choice, I'd still buy FFV so that in a disaster situation when all the pumps are dry or lines are 10 cars deep I can still find flex fuel and fill up and be on my way.

And if you use flex fuel your exhaust smells like popcorn...

There are no differences in the oiled engine parts between the 2 motors. At least this is what I have been told. My Tacomas were 5k on dino. I just switched to a good syn and went 7500 - 10 with no problems.

Also to add, if you are running flex fuel I thought it was recommended that you try to use all of your regular gasoline up before filling with flex. Same goes in reverse so that the computer knows to switch between the two. Also thought I read that people have issues when switching between the two.

I can't speak to the Tacoma, and I'm no engineer. I did read the oil change requirement for the 3UR-FE is 10k and the 3UR-FBE is 5k. This is set by Toyota. You can of course run extended drain Intervals without noticing short term problems, but I'm unaware of a 10k option for the FBE even with synthetic.

A few have mentioned why, but I can't remember specifically.
