I can almost guarantee, all the LED bulbs and components are coming from China anyways.

I'm holding out for a MADE IN CANADA

My step dad had about 1000 flashlights. This was, of course, before LED technology was widely available. I never understood it.

I have a few good aluminum frame flashlights, usually stored where they make sense. One in the truck, a couple in the trailer, one in the 4runner, one in the night stand, a few others scattered around..

One of my favorites is a little Duracell LED flashlight with a focusing beam. Puts out a ton of light, it's small, and I feel like if I were attacked in an dark alley it would make an excellent enhancement to a closed fist.

Headlamp... Zebralight H600C or H600FC depending if you want just floody beam or if you want a hotspot in the flood to reach out with... in the 4000k high CRI emitter

I don't leave the 18650 cells in my truck though due to how hot it can get here. I suppose I should throw a basic alkaline cell pen light in there just in case.

Yeah, I should never mentioned global politics.

I could never understand why guys older than me still hated Japanese products. Japan was no longer our enemy. They made a superior product, and for only slightly more money. As a country, we had already utterly conquered them decisively as an enemy that wanted to dominate our world. They were obliterated, and had to accept US taxpayer dollars and American expertise to rebuild from the ashes of their folly.

We have not reached that point in our relationship with the Communist Chinese, but their intent to rule the world is very much active and growing. Until this COVID19 fiasco, they were burying us with cheaper goods. We were, and are, literally dependent on China for critical materials. Our country will, once again, have to face the choice of destroying an super-ambitious adversary, or of being destroyed.

This pandemic the world is battling was a deliberate biological attack by China; they let it out into the world, but limited the effect on their own population. They might have played the pandemic card too early. If we are smart as a people, it's time to pay a little more out of pocket for goods from ourselves, and our friends. It was the curtailment of strategic raw materials (oil, steel) that began the long slide into war with Japan. Japan saw they would have to "take" what they needed, and they saw the USA was not going to let them.

In the truck, Zebralight headlamp (H50, I think) and several Olights (mainly because I don't like Olights and I don't need to use them much in the truck). Also, a . And I always have a AAA twisty in my pocket, which I use all the time.

It sounds so menacing when you just change the emphasis a little..

    "End of thread, JACK!"

One of my coworker, who studied manufacturing engineering but is now a project manager with my company, spent a lot of time at manufacturing facilities in China. His version is that at the highest level, Chinese manufacturing is arguably better and more advanced than US manufacturing. That said, there is very little regulation and there are Chinese manufacturers that are on the extreme low end.. He gave a specific example of a facility that was making circuit boards for some terrible product, where workers were manning solder baths with bare hands, everything apparently smelled of solder and burnt hair/flesh..

I guess the point is that if a reputable US company is having something manufactured in China, chances are it's to a quality standard that rivals a US manufacturer at a lower cost.

I can understand the desire to support manufacturing jobs in the US, but the writing is on the wall.. those jobs won't exist in the US in a large scale within the next decade or two.

It's mostly the tiny side button they use on most of their popular models. I much prefer the buttons (and the superior build quality) of Zebralights and I don't even have large hands. I must admit, some of the Olights put out a good amount of light for the price. I might even have been tempted to buy a Warrior Mini, had the price been better during the recent sale. But overall, Olights don't give me "the fizz" the way a Zebralight or a Surefire does.

Solarforce Z2. I have many other flashlights, including some high dollar, high lumen ones, but this is my favorite - and at $18 it's cheap enough to keep several around.

Small enough for everyday carry, bright enough for any task, easy availability of batteries (AA), and most importantly it has a reversible clip!

With the light weight and reversible clip, it is easy to slide it onto the bill of your cap and BOOM - instant hands-free headlamp.

Hands down my COLEMAN ONE SOURCE RECHARGEABLE, 1000 LUMENS on high 600 on low. Also a usb port. Plus about 20 others in house and car. Biggest problem anymore is with batteries going bad. Eveready and Duracell have replaced products of mine in past few years. Even batteries in packages with 10 yr warranty still going bad after 4-5 yrs.

I totally agree. Something mysterious has happened in retail battery manufacture during the last 5-10 years, because contemporary batteries blow. And, it's not Chinese competitive pressure, because Chinese batteries blow WORSE. Probably our government helping us with our long-term quality of life again.

It's been longer than you realize... Mercury was removed from batteries in '96, and by my math when they really started to suck.

My flashlights fall into one of two categories. Cheap/Disposable or My Life Depends Upon It.

Anything not in the truck's lockbox is Cheap/Disposable. Right now that includes a MagLite (with a window breaker base) and a Streamlight. Both are great, but cheap so if a crackhead grabs them I'm not out a bunch of money.

The other category are all Surefires. The Titan is EDC and the one other (forget the model) goes with me when I travel.

I usually have a lot of flashlights all the time. Right now I have a 3c Led, another small Led, 2 Led work lights and my little 16" baton flashlight I keep in the driver door. If im traveling I may have more. You never know when you need a light. I buy lights all the time usually at Costco.

Streamlight Microstream, made in good old Pennsylvania. This little guy makes great stocking stuffers. Got them for my friends a couple years ago. They all still carry them in their pockets so they can read the fine print, cause we’re all not as young as we used to be. One AAA battery ad it will last longer than you think.

While the company is based in Pa the light is made in China where most are.

    https://www.streamlight.com/docs/default-source/fact-sheet/320.pdf

There are plenty of great lights made by USA companies but not made in the USA.

I give a 3rd to this. I do not leave home without it. I will turn around if I forget it just to go back and grab it. My best friend got me one of these about 8 years ago and one has been in my pocket ever since. I have lost a few of them sadly but I will always carry one. My work provides the stylus kind with 2 AAA so I carry it for work only its more inconvenient to use but its free, so I save my personal one for home use.
