Dude, as you know by the fact you prefer to live out and away from the city that the world is whack. The only thing that sucks is that your daughter had to hear him being a douche.

On a more serious note, you just gotta do the right thing (like you did) and let it roll off your back. My job does not always make everyone happy, and I’ve been called every name in the book- but I have job to do. You just gotta remember wolves don’t worry about the opinions of sheep.

@Boosted4runner: You showed incredible restraint. I don;t know if I could have sat through that crap. With how loud the asshole was being, the entire restaurant had to hear his antics. The owner/manager should have come over and dealt with the situation for the comfort of his other patrons.

I would be curious to know exactly what you mean by, and how you define a "shi**y part of town".

Yep. Although many times it’s hard to tell if you’re not from around there. I’ve gone to see family and friends, said this area looks pretty nice. They will say oh this is a bad neighborhood. I’m like really? I thought it would look more like Compton. Also when I have people come to my area from other states, they think my neighborhood is a bad part of town, which it’s not but it must look that way compared to what they're used to seeing. I just look for bars on the windows and unkempt lawns.

O then its on . I would not really say much if they had nothing rude to say but with her just being honest with them and this was a nice restaurant not your average place like McDonald's. They took it as she was right and they actually didn't say anything. One did say maybe we should be a little quieter. The funny thing about it was as they were just all excited about something it was nothing about politics or anything like that so I guess that's why they didn't get upset

I always tell my kids don't be afraid of adults, they are just kids stuck in a grown up body, "one day you'll be big and you can act accordingly". I also tell them some people have mental illness, they can't help acting that way. mmm, pho!

A-holes are everywhere and it seems to be getting worse thanks to the constant bombardment of hate that seems to be coming from all directions. Sounds like you're daughter has learned to ignore it.

As others have said, you did the right thing and demonstrated strength through restraint.

Early on I taught my children that there are a lot of stupid people out there and we can ignore most of them most of the time. I have very thick skin and do ignore most things, but the one thing that bugs me is inappropriate language in public places. That language where children can hear would have bothered me more than the racist political rant.

I had to look up Pho. It looks good and I'll try it if I ever see it on a menu. I like similar soups and noodles from Chinese and Thai restaurants.

Probably a part of town where you find people like the guy he described. I imagine it’s darker than other areas. Less street lights, more liquor stores and pawn shops.

Restraint is one of the most valuable things you can teach your children. Good job sir. I have a tough time restraining myself even though I know the right thing to do, it’s difficult at times.

My shi**y part of town has a great pho place too. It's north of downtown, at any given moment there are gang bangers (of any race) walking around, homeless people, recovering addicts and ex-cons from the nearby Salvation Army and halfway houses. A little east is a Portuguese bakery with the best $5 massive pork sandwiches in the city. Real estate is old and cheap so you have poverty and new immigrants living there. Some of them open "You gotta eat here Food Network" type places that are super delish old school cooking.

Vantuky! 4th Plain and Andresen behind Spot Tavern.

It’s not like it was as bad as parts of LA I’ve been to. Or areas of Portland.
It’s just a different type of people that live/surround that area.
There was an open parking spot right up front with the “X” lines on the other side so I knew I wouldn’t get a door-ding.
I was driving the Lexus and was dressed with pressed clothes (had a work meeting prior). Maybe that had something to do with it. We definitely didn’t “fit in”. That happens a lot though, and I normally don’t give a shit.
My muck boots and carharts were in the Tundra :D
