Hey guys just wondering, if you guys got them and have you had to use them? I got a 8 year or 120,000 mile. I don't want to be caught with a huge fix that would had cost more than what I got the warranty for.

    I bought a 8 year 100,000 platinum for 1100 bucks. I probably won’t use it but for 1100 I figured why not..

Dang that was better than mine. I paid 1750 for a "like factory bumper to bumper". Have you had to use it?

I got a similar deal. Its definitely worth it imho. Had an 08 tundra dc and had to get the driver side mirror replaced after 5yrs because the motor was going. It as $900 total for the replace and labor. Had an extended and cost me 50. Chances are the warranty will pay for itself if you have 1 or 2 issues during ownership.

My truck is a 17 so it’s still under the 3/36 and I haven’t had any issues to date.

That's pretty high. Did you go through Toyota for yours? You can always check with Toyota for one. Cancel yours, they will refund a pro rate and put it against your auto loan or send you a check if you don't have a loan. Then you pay cash for a better deal if you have found onem. Kind of a PIA but you might save 5 or 600 bucks.
Or just say F it and roll with what you have.

My nephew bought a new 4 runner a few months ago in Virginia where he was stationed. He’s now stationed in Colorado so I was looking over his paperwork and he bought an extended warranty, a wheel/tire warranty and a few other scam products. The sad part is the warranty is a 4/60 for 2200 bucks and it is through FIDELITY, not Toyota. They gave him a brochure with a nice TOYOTA sign on front but the poor kid didn’t ask any questions and got screwed! It’s sad how these bung holes prey on people with this garbage. I’m in the process of trying to get him to cancel all of it.
Be careful what you purchase and always look at the details!

Man, that's terrible. Is he USN? I work MSC on a ship doing fleet logistics. Wish I would've known he needed help with the purchase I would have went with him. They will "make a profit" (screw) the young inexperience buyers sometimes. Is he financed with navy Fed or Langley he should contact them and see if they can get his purchase price of the warranty adjusted, or just cancel it and pay cash for one as his new car bump to bump warranty coverage nears the end. They probably got him with the paint and interior warranty along with the tire. I would cancel all that but that's just me. Wish him the best, glad you are trying to look out for him.

He is in the Army but you are correct, the interior/exterior stuff as well. I working on getting this turned around but I don’t know if they will let him out of the tire/wheel and interior nonsense. I’ll keep you posted. Sad that it’s a legit Toyota dealership doing this stuff and to a veteran of two Afghan tours.
Thanks for offering your help, that is much appreciated.

If he's with a big federal credit union have him explain to them he got caught up and pushed to purchase that stuff. They may intermediate on his behalf. Toyota dealership doesn't want to poss off a heavy military based lender I would imagine. Best of luck.

I'd have your nephew drive on over to Larry Miller Toyota in the Springs and explain what's up. I'm assuming your nephew is stationed at Ft Carson?

Seeing that you live in CRock maybe go with. As you know the Springs is a big military town. I'm thinking the finance dept at Miller would be more than happy to try to fix things.

I bought an extended warranty when I bought my 07 in 2014. Never had to use it. Had one with my 09 Taco I bought in 2010. Never used it. These trucks are built pretty good. I wished I'd set aside the money spent on extended warranty for "just in case something goes wrong". I'd have a good chunk of scratch to use on mods. My .03 cents.

Yea, I don’t normally purchase one but at 1100 bucks I decided 8 years and 100,000 was worth it.
I have also heard that if you never file a claim with it they will refund your money. You may want to look into that.

As I recall, the cost of my 8yr/75,000 mile Toyota Financial Services (TFS) Platinum Vehicle Service Agreement (VSA) equaled the cost of AAA roadside assistance (yearly dues X 8), so since 24/7 roadside assistance is included, it made sense to take the coverage in my situation. Paid cash for mine after the sale.

I would be happy to. I scanned and emailed over the documents to cancel everything. Now to wait and see how long it takes, what can be cancelled and what kind of “admin” fees they take.

These finance people/ salesman love it when a young inexperienced buyer sits down at the table.

I also noticed he paid top dollar for that Runner but that ship has sailed so another time for that lesson.

When this is over I’ll hook him up with someone that will give him a great deal on a genuine Toyota warranty. He just seems to feel better having one.

And sorry OP for jacking your thread..

Yes I went to my local Toyota Dealer here. But the dealer in AZ that I got the truck from wanted to sell me a 3 yr 45k warranty for 2800. He of course was saying "That about half what you going to get anywhere else" So that what got me to look around. I was in no way going for 3yr 2800. So when local dealer gave that price 8 yr 100000 I thought it was fair/good the peace of mind. Hopefully I never use it.

In my past, with other vehicles, there were dealers willing to discount warranties; make money on volume, so to speak. The warranty on my Corvette was purchased from a dealer in Montana, for example. Is there a loss leader in the US for Toyota warranties?

@14burrito started a thread last year about this. I purchased my truck in Texas, but bought the Toyota TFS Platinum VSA through this dealer in Colorado. Brian is a very busy guy since his primary role is Finance Manager for the dealership. I did hear that Toyota may be stopping this practice. Below are two threads explaining this, but here is the information I used:
    @14burrito said:
"You can buy out of state which is a nice savings on tax alone - not a lot of people know that or even have that thought cross their mind.

I emailed a total of 43 dealerships IIRC,
My best deal came from the gentlemen below.

    Brian Hyman
    Finance Manager
    Pederson Toyota in Colorado

I found a lady at a dealer in Michigan that beat Brian by 100 bucks. I’ll post the info later on. I’m heading into the mountains and won’t have good phone reception.

yep. I bought my son an Escape from this older couple and they paid between $2k and $3k for 75,000 miles. My Tundra purchase was a strange one because the finance manager did not peddle anything. I warned him up front that I do not buy extended warranties and he was like "no problem". Then he turned around and tried to tack on some $599 dealer fee. I told him that sales and myself had already agreed on a price. Whne I bought my Taco I spent 15 minute dickering with the finance guy over the warranty. I had to threaten to walk out and then get the sales director involved. Sale director was not happy when I asked for the guys back for my trade.

So how does it work purchasing an extended warranty? When I bought my truck I didn't want to screw around anymore trying to negotiate on a warranty so I just told them to not even try, but that 8yr/75k warranty looks pretty reasonable since I don't put a ton of miles on my truck (usually <5k/yr, but maybe that'll change with my new Tundra). I'm in Oregon, so can I just call any dealer and ask for a price on a Toyota extended warranty?

Are these warranties bumper-to-bumper, or are there a bunch of exclusions? Any deductible?
