All this is doing is slowing the inevitable. The infection has increased but death rate is down to 1% last time I checked. Many are not even aware they have it.

We got informed we were deemed "essential" as long as the mills are running apparently...

"Workers who support the manufacture and distribution of forest products, including, but not limited to timber, paper, and other wood products"

I cant tell if we are supposed to take this quarantine seriously or not...Can still walk into USPS, grab beers and brats from the grocery store, some plants at Walmart and book a hotel. Its like a joke at this point. Please dont go anywhere, but if you need 2x4s and paint...no worries, just stop by Home Depot!

Wait a few weeks after spring break, when all the kids get back from partying and socializing and they infect everyone.

It's not 40+ that are getting infect now, it's the 20-30y olds as they don't think they are going to get it, don't care because they figure they are young and healthy enough to easily beat it or are just too stupid to realize the consequences of how many they will infect.

Thats the point. Keep from breaking the health care capacity. To keep it under control. Longer period, same cases, less death as we evenly get the cases not getting rushed and over capacityat once.

I’m considered ‘essential’ because I work in IT for a hospital. It’s crazy how long it takes for our society to react to this. Starting just this week we require masks for anyone walking through the hospital. This was called a pandemic almost 2 weeks ago. Only 1 out of 20 people wear masks and/or gloves in public. This is definitely a surreal time...

The WHO says gloves don't help. A few weeks ago, they were recommending masks only for those who are sick to ensure there are enough for medical workers and others in contact with people who are infected. Not sure if that's changed recently.

I am not a doctor or an adviser. This is all just my opinion. You need a mask AND goggles and decon properly. It is airborne. China everyone wore masks. China wireless carriers lose 21 million users so think about that. U.S. people are stubborn, distracted and brainwashed with stupid entertainments and the normalcy bias is strong. Americans simply do not give a shit about anything really going on until something directly affects them. People sure had fun making jokes. I bought my protective back at the beginning of January. Everything bubble go pop. Health is wealth.

    Emails daily about this bug.
If gloves and masks helped, why would healthcare workers get it that are all suited up? Exactly.
This bug will reach out and touch everyone.
Six feet doesn't do shit. It's just a feel good measure. It's in the air. It's on surfaces. And it doesn't die in the air or on surfaces quickly enough.

The only reason they suggest gloves and masks as well as social distancing/self-isolation is to not have a tidal wave of millions of people overwhelming the healthcare system like what is happening in Spain and Italy. They want to keep that upward curve of infection as slight as possible.
    That's it.

You, you, you over there, and even me...
We're all going to get it eventually. This thing spreads faster than any known virus in the civilized world.
Some folks are asymptomatic. Others die. Most are somewhere in between.
The USA is just over 327 million people. With a flat mortality rate of around 4% that doesn't include existing medical conditions as a modifier, that's 13 million people that die due to this bug. Imagine the population of Los Angeles and New York City gone.
To put it in perspective, take a hat and put numbered pieces of paper from one to twenty-five in the hat.
When you get the bug, and you will, reach into the hat and pull out a piece of paper. If you pull out a number between 2 and 25, you live.
Pull out the number 1... well... I don't know what to tell you.

Health workers come into direct contact with the highest viral loads all day every day. HIGH chance of a slight protective mishap! Average people using proper measures will be fine a large percentage of the time. The thing is mass numbers of people paid no attention and did not prepare so good luck finding masks and goggles now. I believe N or P100 mask is the minimum but N or P95 better than nothing.

And they have been inoculated and they have they built up antibodies and resistances to the common viruses. This bug isn't like them. There isn't a known inoculation or vaccine. No one has built up antibodies or resistances.
It's fast moving, very fast. Our virologist and bio-labs are working 24/7, trying to understand this bug and map it. That's how different that it is.

In a way I kind of feel like this describes society in general these days. Common sense and logic have gone out the window. We have people arguing the earth is flat, vaccines are dangerous, climate change is a hoax, etc.

You had me with the first two, then you lost me. The climate of the earth has been changing back and forth for millions of years. Our meek existence in this tiny period of time, including our great industrial revolution has done nothing to influence the climate which will continuously change long after were gone. The people who keep proclaiming this isn't a complete climate hoax, in my opinion are completely nuts.
