In my case I kinda got the best of both worlds - essential employee *and* teleworking. (I'm civil service working for military; wife works healthcare. Both of us teleworking right now.)

Anyone else find it interesting that we're now relying on the same essential people to deliver what we need who earlier were told they aren't worth a raise in the minimum wage?

Both my wife and I are considered essential. She is a nurse and I work in the transportation/trucking industry managing a medium/heavy duty diesel repair facility.

Very true. I'm telling my son to keep an eye on the jobs that are busier'n hell right now.

Meanwhile, it's the same as usual for most IT guys - no one says squat until sh*t breaks, and then we get asked why it just doesn't work....except now it's even busier. One of my jobs involves ensuring the VPN server stays up and working so you ***KNOW*** I'm busy. LOL

But hey - I've got a job, can provide for my family, pay the bills, so in the end, I'm blessed. :)

I work at lowes, and we are considered essential even though probably 95% of our customers are coming in for nonessential things such as flowers and sod for a garden.

Just curious, how is lowes is considered essential? I'm assuming it is somehow tied to construction?

And thanks to Lowes being essential, we become essential by default because we supply Lowes. We got a letter from Lowes saying they expect us to ship as normal.

I am a Sr. System Architect for one of the worlds largest (according to some, the largest) Healthcare IT companies. I work remote now, but 100% of what I do can be done remote anyway.

Another Firefighter/paramedic here. We have 2 in quarantine with possible exposure from pt and also having some flu-like symptoms themselves. Test results are taking 6-7 days right now. Neighboring dept just shut 1 of their houses down today to have professional company come in and clean the station after a couple of their ff’s tested positive.

Seems like this has been the case for all non-essential government employees. Admin leave with pay. I have lots of family in different areas of government for different government entities and those that are not essential were sent home with pay, which is great for them. I myself am government, but considered essential so I’m still working. I hope an economic stimulus package is passed soon to get help to those who really need it and not working.

I'm at least partially essential. Working 4 hours a week and collecting full pay until at least the end of April.

My parents were both laid off beginning of the week.

My wife unfortunately got fired today...for asking why in a county where the Governor issued a stay at home order the entire 12 person accounting group was coming in every day when most of the work could be done remotely. She'd been there 13 years, asked at 9am and she was escorted out at 1.

Yup, we'll be calling an attorney next week. There's a few other questions out there about it but that's the major one.

I retired about 5 years ago. Still stayed busy with projects until Covid. I have a compromised immune system due to cancer therapy and I'm already sick of staying home. The wife's business is still going but she is working from home about 4 days a week now. We have more house than we need, but I swear it is getting smaller hy the day. LOL Between all the oak wilt and other pollen sources, I haven't been getting in much work outside. Hopefully that will change soon. Since the county we live in issued the shelter in place order today, she asked me what I wanted to do. I told her I wanted to go to the big WalMart a few miles from us and lay down some rubber for stress relief. She said that wouldn't be a good idea since it is non-essential. I told her if they stopped me I would tell them that I am essential... "Somebody has to make the donuts!"

    Rant over! :hattip:

We went from 2k licenses to 6k and enforcing 4 hour time out and we're still hitting limits. We can't get it in their head they don't need it for O365.
