Ontario is closing down all non essential business as of midnight today. So clothing stores, donut shops, starbucks, jewelry stores, electronic stores, hardware stores, restaurants, 7-11, should all be shutting down. We call all love without these luxury "essential" services, we have become accustomed to.

It is only 1 border away from me....but MB hasn't been hit as hard, so we will see if other provinces follow suite.

Olympics are postponed 1y as well. They finally stepped up and delayed them

I work in a hospital and am considered essential. We are trying to get ready for what we know is coming.

All of my plants are supplying manufactured housing which supplies FEMA as needed so we are considered essential.

In in Metairie. My wife works at Ochsner. I have two kids at home as well. It’s been tough not knowing if you have it or not since she’s frontline with it. But so far so good. We also are homebodies and didn’t go to any Mardi Gras parades haha

I am self-employed in the music industry. It’s an amazing job, but it is in no way essential. My wife stays home with our three young kids. Now, I guess I do, too. Can’t wait to get back to work. This is freaking me out.

I'm a CO in a max security prison. Close quarters with 50 plus guys to a range. 20 of our staff are on quarantine. So many of our daily operations have been altered. A jail can't run itself.

Day 11 in a row of 12-20 hour days. Large financial company, Telecom/IVR. People are already in hardship and trying to save themselves calling in and trying to talk to bankers/reps about late payments, hardships, rates for savings and retirement accounts. Trying to call in and talk to our people that aren't able to work because of lockdowns, family issues etc so it's bad on both sides. One of my developers just called me to say he's got Covid, luckily my team is 100% remote.

Seeing what's happening with folks, i'm not going to bitch about the exhaustion.. I have a job.

I'm a civil engineer, our offices are still open. As long as construction is still happening we are needed to provide support on projects. We have offices in two states MD and DE. In Delaware engineering is considered essential, in MD engineering did not make to essential list. Our company actually contacted the state and explained our need and we are allowed to remain open.

My wife works for the county and is non essential, she was placed on administrative leave with pay last Tuesday and it currently extends to April 8th.

My brother is electrical and works for an engineering firm of about 50 people. They're not set up to work from home. They went to 32-hour work weeks last week and laid off 27 people yesterday but luckily he's still busy and their electrical department is kind of short staffed right now.

Essential here, Facilities Management for UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco. We're here to keep the hospital able to support clinical operations. Luckily the early adoption of shelter in place by California means we're doing well at maintaining available beds for critical cases.

Yeah we are not really set up to work from home either. We are allowed to work from home if we wish but that would require packing up my entire workstation and creating an office at home. The home office became the baby's room last year and there's no place to set up 2 monitors and giant tower anymore that has internet access. Our office of 40 has been dwindling with people deciding to work from home, so being in the office isn't as big of a risk anymore with my nearest coworker 25 feet away. Wishing I was home hanging out with the family but certainly thankful we are still able to earn a paycheck.

Because people are infected and transmitting the virus to others before they are aware they are sick. If we didnt social distance ourselves this would be way worse by now. Watch the numbers. Daily infected numbers are growing. We havent even hit peak yet. NY and Washington are going to get way worse. And other areas as well if people dont take this serious enough.

It might be a shorter list if we listed what ISN'T essential. Seems like most people I know are still allowed to work.

Essential services used to be: fire, paramedic, hospital, police, military, (etc)....not grocery stores, mechanics, Starbucks and paint stores

At least that was always my understanding of the term.
