Someone here asked if this was overblown. IMO, absolutely not. For those who think it is overblown, read up on the 1918 Spanish Flu if you’re not familiar with it. There’s a reason history is taught in school; so we don’t repeat the bad stuff among one of the reasons. I don’t think we’ll reach that point, but it will definitely be 2nd place to that at the pace we’re going. Those working in the hospitals and responding to calls related to this will tell you how serious this is.

I already knew it, but got this today at work.
Dallas County put the shelter-in-place rules in starting 25 minutes ago.
I don't live in Dallas County but start and end work in Dallas County.
Pretty sure my local governments are putting the same policies in place within days.

The traffic situation has been relaxing. The eating and parking has been on the rough side. I visited about 14 states this week. Florida and Georgia was a bit disappointing. Traffic was terrible. Sorry to say it but those two states need to get it together.

I am a process engineer at Intel. We manufacture products needed for people to work from home (client processors, server processors, etc) and therefore have to keep manufacturing going and are essential. Intel is having many people work from home, but there are limited factory personnel on site at all times (me included, some of the week).

I saw today Intel donated a LOT of personal protective equipment to first responders and healthcare professionals. Thanks to those on the front line!

I work in telecom, so we are considered essential. Though my department could work from home, and several asked for that, our boss' boss is an idiot. He thinks essential means we need to be in the office.
Not the biggest deal, as we are pretty isolated in our building. No more than 8 of us in at any one time, and we are all separated fairly well. Doesn't make him any less of a douche.

My wife works in downtown Dallas.
Before the mandate she went to work 2 or the 3 days a week as a volunteer (paid)..
It was just her and 4 other people on 2 floors of a downtown high rise.
Now the shelter-in-place has started, she has to work at home.
She hates working at home and would rather go into the office.
At least I'm gone all day and will not be home and get on her nerves.

With all that is going on, we both feel very blessed that we are able to work.
There are so many service industry and others that are forced to stay home for who knows how long without pay.

If any of you get food to-go or delivery, please tip as if you were sitting at the restaurant if possible.

100% agree. I'd rather go to the office, but I'm low risk on this epidemic(but my mother that lives with me would not survive it). Others in the office wanted to work from home and very easily could, but he actually said that because we are essential we have to come in. He's an idiot.

I agree with doing what I can to financially contribute to those being hit by the shut down. I am blessed more than I should be, so I have to share the blessings. Going to order pizza tomorrow and leave a good tip.

I too am concerned for two things...

One- appears the essential suppliers are so far down the supply chain that the stay home mandate isn’t applying to what appears to be 70% of us; so is the spread really going to slow?

two- as some mentioned what does the economy look like in a month? By July? I’m going to remain positive and hope we will somewhat rebound back based on a high amount of individuals still being employed (most remote and some still essential) to keep spending going and the economy moving forward. Saving lives are definitely more important but I don’t think we can deny the vast impact on the economy if we limited essential employees to one level down on the supply chain.

Sure, financially this year I won’t get a bonus but things happen and fortunately I don’t base my standard of living around my variable compensation. As a Dir Of Finance I would feel better forgoing my bonus and keeping my AR Collection Supervisor employed since she most likely would feel 10x the pressure under unemployment conditions vs myself.

That was long winded but overall, no one has the crystal ball but what we do need to do is stay home and if truly critical, maintain your distance and stay safe& clean.

Time isn’t going to stop so this will pass.

In the mean time personally I am glad I did all my spring maintenance and fluid changes on the challenger and Miata for spring Sunday before the stay home mandate....

I was thinking about this also. A year ago almost to the day I started my cancer battle. Never thought I would say that I am grateful it happened then. I can only imagine what people going thru treatment this spring-summer are going to have to go thru.

I work IT at a University. While I haven't been deemed essential or non-essential, I have been partially remote for over a year now, and the transition to full time remote wasn't an issue. Of course, being cooped up in the house with all the kids while trying to work is another story.

Where you at man? I'm in Lake Charles area and we're getting more cases daily(as expected I guess)
I'm a pipe designer for an engineering firm that supports the local plants here and have been deemed essential. I work in my office 95% of the time and now keep to myself and distance. We have new schedules. If they send me home for 3 weeks, I'll go home and spend time with my kids. My wife is a chemical engineer for a local plant and is working remotely from home with our kids (1 and 4)....so not too much can get done. The moment I go home, I go straight to the shower and clean off. Leave my shoes at the door outside. Trying to make sure my kids and/or pregnant wife don't get anything I may have on me. I feel for you on the front lines like medical field and those dealing with public like grocery and all. Bless y'all!
