I do automation work in ag, most people around here work in ag so it doesn't seem to be much different than before.

Agreed on the second part of that, what does “automation work in Ag” mean?

I do industrial automation, mostly plc controls on equipment like bin dumps, stackers, destackers, box fillers, bin fillers, pretty much all post harvest equipment.

Is ladder logic still common? I studied plc controlers a bit several years ago and heard that they were converting to C programming.

Police Officer. We are doing a reserve process right now. Every other block off with pay. Normally I work 4 on 4 off 12 hour shifts. Now we are working 4 on 12 off, cut our platoon in half. Just in case our platoon gets it we still have another half who can step in all healthy. It's not as busy right now anyways with most people staying home.

I've messed with a few different programming languages but 99% of what I do is ladder logic.

Healthcare provider in urgent care. See a decent amount of presumed Covids due to lack of testing which has been a mess. Wife is a nurse and deals with the same. We’ve both had to isolate from any and all family to mitigate expose which has sucked. But that does give me more time to tinker in my shop

UPS driver here, we've been busy already and with stimulus checks supposedly starting to drop this week I expect things are gonna get rather crazy...

Being a retired geezer and living in a very small town, there's really not much essential that I need. However, I would like to say Thank You from the bottom of my heart to all those truly essential individuals doing their part in keeping us safe, healthy, provided....etc. When this has passed and able to get out, I will be paying it forward the best I can !

how do you like the 4 on 4 off? we're considering switching to that schedule. we rotate 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7 on 2ish off with a 4 day weekend thrown in there somewhere.

also, essential. military training command. we're continuing on without many changes besides wearing "masks" if you have to be within 6 feet of someone for more than 10 min.

Extremely happy to be working still. Park Maintenance. Over 1 million square feet of ballfield turfgrass, irrigation and potable water systems, sewer systems, electrical systems, rental houses and other buildings to maintain (who would think a parks department would have over a dozen rentals!). If we don't work our maintenance backlog would go from the normal nightmare to maintenance apocalypse. Pretty easy to distance ourselves in wide open spaces though.

I like 4 on 4 off. Our first two shifts are day shifts 7AM-7PM and second two are 7PM-7AM. The switch from days to nights in the same block gets tough. But you sort of get used to it. Almost.

Our operators work a similar shift. I've heard you can't truly swing over properly so you just drink a lot of coffee and hope nothing hits the fan on your two (or three) night shifts.

That's sort of what we're going to do too. I like the idea of having 6 months off a year even if it is just trying to fix your sleep

Very similar to what I work, but we do 7 on 7 off, 6 AM to 6PM. Wednesday through Tuesday. It's the best way I've seen to cover a 24/7 position. Any single position can be covered by 4 people on this schedule.

It was hard for about 2 months. Then I just got used to it. Been doing it for over a year now. It would really depend on the job, though.

Nah, I like my 2 (48hrs) days on and 4 (96hrs) off. Cause some of the time we get to sleep during nights so really it’s only like 36-40hrs of work

the only time its considered ok to sleep is during a hurricane watch when we're there for as long as it takes (3 days to a week). i keep saying naps increase productivity, but these old timers dont listen :D
