Do you have a write up on your system?

I'm definitely going to find a way to insulate that positive terminal by the core support.

I don’t know right now, and I’m not switching anytime soon. Have a ridiculous amount of time and money into the truck, need to just enjoy it for awhile.
I don’t, but it’s really simple. 2 MRBF fuses one at each battery, 150 amp Battery Doctor smart isolator, and XS Power 750 deep cycle battery.

Right at the front positive terminal. Sucks because the system is great but I wouldn’t run in a tundra for this reason. Killed a $300 battery and would have to constantly jump the battery to start my truck. I’ve been really hesitant on selling it because I don’t want anyone else to run into this issue.

Also, this was on a fire road with some bumps, not true off roading

    hmm.

all i would be doing is the tray. i have all the other required pieces (ml-acr, etc). my only reasoning for wanting to do this tray is that my current one houses the batteries vertically with the terminals up against the fuse box. it's too tight and i've had modify quite a few things in order to make it fit. i zap myself just about every time i have to work on it.

Here’s my setup. I used SDHQ’s basic idea and windshield washer fluid relocation kit, a 3rd gen intake and an Artec battery tray. I basically sourced the rest of the parts through Amazon.

Very nice John I’m a little jealous :jellydance:
This is soo stupid imo.. No way the sheet metal structure can hold that, the airbag sensor in front of that hates everyone that could or would bother with such foolishness. Complete wrong place for dual batteries and all around bad idea. Looks like monkeys butt also lol.

Man this is nice work! Did you have to move the power steering reservoir or did this fit right in there? Also is this a group 34 battery? My 2010 CM looks like it wouldn’t fit one.

This is a really nice set up! What was the actual Artec battery tray you used? It looks like there is a tab for the PS reservoir. Did you add that or did that come that way? Also what group battery did you use? Sorry for all the questions but this is exactly what I am wanting to do. Thanks

    Thanks for the compliment.
This is the battery tray I used. https://www.artecindustries.com/oypc1500 It’s a group 34 battery.
I made The PS fluid reservoir tab out of flat bar and counter sunk it to the battery tray. I did a couple trial fits to get the length correct.
I also had to add a piece of metal tube to the PS return hose to lengthen it slightly for the new reservoir location.

John, thank you for the info. That definitely looks like something I can handle. I'm only nervous about the PS extension since I don't want to screw that up. I am so glad I saw your post. I have my wires for a winch and 110v already run into the engine compartment from the bed. Was just waiting for some more ideas from guys for the battery install. I knew I could do it, but I am visual so I wanted to see it done first before I tackled it. Thanks again.

I’m glad someone got something out of the post.
The hose extension was easy. I just used a sleeve and two hose clamps. It only needs to be about an inch longer. You just need to cut the return hose in the correct spot to avoid the pulley. Once you start test fitting it you’ll see where you need to cut it and how to orient the clamps to clear everything.

John are you using a group 35 battery for your main? Hard to tell in the pic. I have a Platinum CM so I have the 27F over there. I really like that size, but I’ve read to keep the same size on dual battery systems. I see your using the Blue Sea isolator like I would so I assumed that using an isolator would negate needing the same size on both sides. Your thoughts?

Hey Mike, I have the same battery on both sides.
It’s not required but I would stick with the same battery for each side if possible and buy them as close together as you can. I knew I was going with this setup eventually so when my main battery died I started the process and bought the first PC1500. I think I bought the second one a couple months later as I was putting parts together for the dual battery setup.
The Blue Sea ML-ACR has been great and works seamlessly connecting and disconnecting the batteries as voltage changes.

Ok John that looks like what I will do then. I just wish I could fit an 27F on that side! Glad to hear about the Blue Sea. I bought a different isolator early on in planning stages, shouldn’t have but I was too stupid excited to get going and after reading and studying more the Blue Sea looks the only way to go. Buddy I appreciate all the help you’ve given. Hopefully I won’t have to bug you anymore.
