Actually I love full size rock crawler. Chevy one ton frame makes a dope crawler. Wider and bigger makes it more stable. And like bruce said, a 4 door jeep isn't much smaller than a bobbed tundra.

    exactly;)

Wider is good. If I were to do another build like my EB, I would do a full-size axle conversion this time around.

@Spvrtan I think you are just misunderstood like @KevinK you guys are doing stuff out of the box that most aren't ready for. Thus the resistance. But I will say I only see ya on the trails with 4runners, Taco's and FJ's - they are solid vehicles to off-road with but most only run 33in tires with a few running 35's. They are setup different but would love to compare Tundra to Tundra and see how other built Tundras do on the same trails and lines. Part of the reason I like to wheel with the Raptors once in awhile is to compare. I also get it that most Tundra owners don't wheel their truck outside of a graded dirt road but there are some that do. Keep doing you and applaud you for actually wheeling your truck.

I have some noob questions for the LT guys. Are your trucks also your daily drivers? If so, how do they handle on road? Can you still put bed racks and RTT's on with modded fenders and the added weight to the rear?
BTW this was a really interesting thread to read :popcorn:and now I'm totally second guessing the direction I want to go with my truck.

We have argued that point- RTT on a rack with fiberglass bedsides. I don't think anyone has done it yet. I am convinced it won't hold up. Hell my bed is tearing apart now and I believe it's due to the RTT and rack. Changing up the rear and bracing the bed/frame will hopefully help -- Ohh and ditching the RTT and rack

Complicated question but for Alex and I no not daily drivers but we drive an emense amount w them on and off road. They drive like an old school caddy on road soft and comfy ... he and I also both have bed racks and rtt’s And no issues . Does take some different leafs to support the weight but totally doable. Bed sides didn’t have much effect on Alex set up I custom built my rack for how I wanted and works no problem w glass bedsides

And yeah sorry for the thread sometimes we put out w lot of info and then people question their build direction but keep in mind some of the discussed options are not cheap :spending:

Mine is not my daily driver because I can't afford the gas. It gets about 12 mpg on the hwy with a tail wind lol and I do 80 miles a day for work.

But it drives very well on the street. Super comfortable.

You can absolutely do a bed rack. I have one that lifts up so I can access my gear underneath. There are debates about the best way to build a rack, but totally depends on the terrain you will encounter and what you will mount on the rack

@n2deep @papasmurf @osidepunker Thanks for the info. Really considering MT now. I don't really want to cut the rear cross member to install a bracket lift.

But you also ran for a while without your hitch crossmember right? I bet that contributed to your bed issues with the frame flexing that much more. I’ve seen how you drive. ;)
I do think the strongest rtt bed rack would be one that attaches to the bed bolts at the frame. Or like ours, super low and attached all the way along the whole bed rail. That seems to reduce some flex, but I’m sure is adding stress to the bed bolt locations.

I will say as I've had to make and weld in a new cross member I wish I hadn't installed it in the first place, but oh well I learned the hard way. It is reversible just tricky and can get pricey.

not wanting to focus on the day job at the moment so, i've been noodling around. you mofos have me checking pricing which, if i'm honest, wasn't as much as a drop kick as i was expecting. sdhq has everything i need except for a couple of items that i'm sure they could get if i asked.

i have a couple of weddings to shoot next month that will more than cover the parts cost. plus, i'm sure my rear kings would sell pretty quickly to someone on here which i'll need to use for beer money to bribe someone to help with the welding.

    damnit. i hate you guys.

We’re not LT, but the tundra is my wife’s daily driver. I’d say we keep pace about 90% with the LT guys. Our mid travel is pretty aggressive though, as is @zackbremer

I don’t think we’ve been one one damn trip yet where we really got to compare before one of us broke something. Mostly scheduling conflicts I suppose. Looking forward to actually having us all on the trail at 100% again soon.

Yes I don't have the stock hitch cross-member but do have a bumper that ties it together. Just not 4 or 5 inch tube. Spolars bed is doing the same thing and he has stock hitch. I think the bed rack needs to run the length over the bedsides to reduce flexing too. I am seriously thinking about just ditching the bed and doing a tube frame bed and hanging fiberglass off of it with a mount for an RTT. But i really don't like the RTT anymore and only have it still cause of the wife. haha

current setup, which came from sdhq, is king 2.5 front and rear with deaver packs that need replacing. i've been kicking around the idea of doing a solid MT setup for awhile. basically what @zackbremer put together on his truck.

    - camburg rear shock mounts w/ king 2.5 x 12 triple bypasses
    - camburg bypass mounts up front w/ king 2.5 x 8 triple bypasses as secondaries
    - king bump stops at all 4 corners
    - new leaf packs (more than likely from alcan)

it was my understanding that if i mentioned @KevinK's name to anyone, i'd get charged double...

I bet a tubed and glassed bed would kick ass. You could mount the RTT any way you want and make it quick disconnect. But hen you run back into the issue of huge weight differences between loaded and unloaded. Unless you get a lighter tent. Saw a pretty slick sleeping platform on the back of a Tundra someplace. Setup a tent on it or just a sleeping bag. But has the same issue I do of bed access when the platform is us. Need that bed slide.

Duuhhh I already have the platform but it will be hinged to allow access to the bed. Only need to be able to get to the spares - water is on a pump and gas i get with supersiphon. Never do a bed slide that is riDICKulASS heavy and replacing the slides yearly.
