After being born and raised in Atlanta GA I've been in New York State for the last 15 years or so. The last 7 years I've lived in Western NY (between Rochester and Buffalo). Overall I really enjoy living here. 4 seasons are great even if winter does drag on a little longer than most prefer. My biggest complaint is the taxes and politics that come out of NYC that control the whole state. But the overall cost of living isn't bad at all compared to most places. Traffic if a breeze pretty much anywhere you go. The people, schools, and overall community feel of my small town is absolutely fantastic. What I like most about the state is the amount of natural beauty throughout the whole state. New York state is unrivaled when it comes to natural beauty, at least anywhere east of the Mississippi River.

I lived in Ballston Spa (Saratoga Springs) for 6 months. I was lucky and timed it for Spring-Summer-Fall. It is such a beautiful place with so much nature, swimming holes, etc...

South Shore, Massachusetts. Grew up on the north shore, married and moved to south shore. Don't care for either to be honest. Love my family all around me, hate the weather 3/4 of the year. Been talking about moving to DFW area with my wife for some time now. Have some extended family down there, used to work for a company that had an office there, and just love it there. Will likely be there within two years. We aren't winter people, don't care for the cold, and absolutely prefer summer.

    Someday....

Lived in MD my whole life, now contemplating moving south. I live in the country but between the crime rate, lack of prosecution of criminals, insane gun laws with more in the pipeline, and increasing cost of living/property i think its time to leave.

You really are dillusional. Always getting sand in your toes, constantly hearing the noise of the ocean, eating fresh fish and fruit every day, surfing any time you'd like, having steady daily temperatures, this all sounds horrible to me.

Don't get me started on that coffee over there either! Or that soothing music! Or how beautiful the hula women can be. Hawaii is a place where I could never live! I would have nothing left to complain about and my blood pressure would drop down to normal.

Been in various cities across NC for the past 30+ years. Always have loved it here. Wish the growth would slow down though. Its really starting to take away from it.

I've lived in NE OK for 54 of my 64 years and there is no personal property tax that I'm aware of. If I had to live in central OK I would probably pick Edmond. Housing everywhere is difficult now but there's lots of building and new neighborhoods in Edmond. The OKC area is very spread out. At one time it was the largest incorporated city in the country in land area.

Title caught my eye. I've never been happy (in it's definition) anywhere I have lived. I am not the happiest person in general, but now that I realize this, I am comfortable anywhere. It works out.

Probably doesn't make much sense to anyone.

Mom and Dad were born and raised in Edmond. I was born there in '47, but Dad was Air Force, so we weren't there for long. The link is from 1996, and is one of the main reasons Dad moved back to TX. They left OK in '99.

I love it here. Gulf on one side, Atlantic on the other. National forest in the middle. Everything is within an hour from me. Still sort of has a small town feel, although it is getting a bit crowded these days for my taste. I’ve often considered leaving, but never have. It’s a great place. Hot as hell, but I’m fond of it.

I couldn't read the link but yes, there is a personal property ad valorem tax on real estate. I thought pretty much every state taxed real estate. You don't pay a property tax on your home?

Mine is about 1 1/2 percent on my assessed value per year. That's total, state, local, county.

    Quick Google search...

Property taxes in Oklahoma are relatively low, as the state has an average effective property tax of 0.87%. The median annual property tax paid by homeowners in Oklahoma is just $1,278, one of the lowest amounts in the U.S.

I live in my home town in So.Cal but it has changed so much over the years. Really sad and frustrating. My wife and I just had our first child and we have been trying to figure out where we should move to. We have friends and family all over the country. We really like the mountains and being outdoors with our dogs. We are pretty damn conservative but we are not "Trumpers". I went to TX and TN last month but the lack of mountains is kind of a bummer.
Maybe Utah, Colorado or Idaho next?

Man this is a hard one for sure. I live in Auburn, Ca. Foothills just below Tahoe. We're at 1200' . Massive amount of public land, US forest service, State Parks. I have mountain bike trails and trout, steelhead, bass fishing less than a mile away. 45 minutes to Tahoe. 2.5 hours to the beach. Tons of places to off-road, boat, rock climb. Whatever really. It's a pretty remarkable area.

Although SoCal is nice in parts South California is a whole different state.

It gets hot in the summer though. 20 years ago it wasn't like this. Most summers are filled with smoke now. The Forest closed for the first times on red flags days this year and I think that's a bad precedent.
We're experiencing what the rest of the country is experiencing. Tech workers, covid digital commuters have created a massive influx of people. Drought. Hardly any snow.
Social media has pretty much ruined any chill private places. Everyone knows about every cool spot or thing to do now and it's always packed with tourists and out oft owners. The highways get shutdown anytime it rains or snows due to spinouts and people thinking they can drive their Tesla's 70mph in heavy snow.

OK off the soapbox. I still like it. I don't think I'll move , simply because I can't afford to live anywhere else that has these amenities. I can only think of two other places that comes close and I'm priced out of those areas as of 2019

I live in Redding, north of Auburn by two and a half hours or so. Have relatives that live there and I used to spend my summers with them when I was a kid. That was a COOL place back in the day as was Redding. To many people now most don't give a shit about the area because they are transient and will move once they screw this place up.

Alot, has changed in this state. I had family friends in Redding when I was a kid living in Tahoe. It was always super fun to go there as well, despite the summertime heat. I travel through there on my way to Shasta or Ashland to mountain bike. I really need to get up there and do some fishing this Spring. Lots of places to explore in that area.

They are building a new paved pump track east of town, Palo Cedro and a new MTB "skills" park in Redding. I can't wait to try and f*ck my old body up on that pump track !

Yeah , I've read about that. I'll definitely stop by (maybe not in summer, lol) Asphalt and 100+ temps would be brutal.

Is Mt. Shasta still building some more trails and stuff? Thought I heard that...

Not sure why you couldn't read the link, but it says this, in explaining the difference between the ad valorem property tax and the tax of personal property inside the home. As I said, this was in 1996.

"What's the difference between property tax, also called ad valorem tax, and household personal property tax?
In the past, Oklahomans, whether or not they owned any real estate, were likely to receive a notice to pay their household personal property taxes.
The deadline of Dec. 31 is the same for ad valorem or property tax. Both may be paid in two installments - half by Dec. 31 and the second half by March 31.

Household personal property tax, however, is paid on the stuff inside a house: furniture, refrigerators, silver, etc.

Property tax, also called real estate tax, is actually a home and land on which it sits.

Personal property tax is calculated to be 10 percent of your ad valorem tax bill. Assessors are not allowed to go inside a person's house to count the silver and other valuables, so they just use a 10 percent estimate."

Maybe it's dependent on county is why I was unaware. It's a complicated topic to research. I can tell you I don't pay any personal property tax assessment in Tulsa County.

    From the Tax Foundation...

All states except Oklahoma have exempted from their TPP tax goods that are not used for the production of income, such as household items like furniture and jewelry[3]. (Even in Oklahoma, only six of the 77 counties in the state levy this tax on household property.[4])

I live in the Catskill mountains in NY. I have visited all 50 US states and each one has something good about it, but I like where I am the best. I enjoy the four seasons, the privacy of the woods, the attitude and culture of the local people, and the opportunity to visit a major metropolitan area for cultural events once in a while. The only problem is the extreme taxation. If I didn't like it here I would move. Maybe some day I will.

Mt. Shasta has a very strong MTB presence and always seems that someone is developing trails. I have not heard any specifics lately.

Im in utah west of slc. Been here 3 years. Love everything but the smog and the summer smoke from fires. That shit is out of control. Didnt think about "climate change" much in texas until i moved here. On smoggy days or low snow years you think about it alot more. Everything else is badass here. Hated west texas. I didnt move there by choice and now that my parents are gone , one passed the other moved up here with us, im never going back except the occasional visit for friends.

I spent most of my life living in SE Michigan, but recently moved to west Tennessee to be close to family. I was looking forward to the nice weather. Now that I'm here, I realize that I hate the heat. I really miss cold weather, snow, and all four seasons. In several years, I'll be able to move back up north.
