Like the title says do you like where you live? What is it about your location that you love or hate? I’ll start I really enjoy Arizona however I’m getting tired of these hot summers and the big city. I really enjoy the mountain country in Az, but there is not much left in my line of work up that way anymore. Anyway I thought it might be interesting to see everyone’s thoughts on where they live!

It’s a complicated answer for me. There are some amazing reasons to love the Seattle area. Unfortunately the area and I are no longer compatible. We have just grown apart

I love what I do for a living, I love my friends here, but I have grown to strongly dislike the city of Nashville over the last few years. It has turned into a country music Vegas. Billions of dollars of development and growth, all to attract tourists; all at the expense of residents. Yeah my home has appreciated beyond the national average over the last 5 years, and that’s nice, but so has every other house in the area.

Moved back to Colorado (born and raised) from a 3 year stint in Houston. I want to move back to Houston, Marijuana really changed the whole dynamic of colorado and its freaking expensive as hell.

Calgary is as good as any other major city in North America. It is a clean beautiful city with a close proximity to the mountains. The winters can either be really mild or extreme there doesn't seem to be any middle ground. The house are expensive but no where near as expensive as Toronto or Vancouver. I would like to live in a better city in Canada but I can't seem to find any other city that fits my needs better than this one.

Man, I feel this. Saw multiple young homeless people diggin for scraps out of trashcans in front of hotels and grocery stores. Heartbreaking. Just seems like there are a LOT of people who moved there for a good time but ended up super strung out on drugs (not marijuana). Still a beautiful place with lots of great folks, but it had a darker vibe overall for me than in years past. I have family in Co Springs; they seem to have lots of concerns these days.

I love my great state of Texas. I will say it has slightly changed over the years but the values that make me love it still run deep. We all hate July and August but the rest of the year is typically amazing. I will never leave.

Love where I live, been here 30 years. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else, even with 6' of snow and -30f to -40f winter temps and short summers with shit loads of mosquitoes and tourists, this will always be home!

    Love it.
Eastern Washington checks all boxes in my opinion. 4 seasons, weather from -10° to 110°. Public land is everywhere with almost every outdoor activity possible. We built our dream home on 10+ acres that has been in my wife's family for nearly 100 years. We plan on getting a second property in ID or MT and hopefully the WA state laws/politics don't push us out.

Random E. WA picture off the internet.

North Idaho (Coeur d Alene) for the past 30 years. I’ve seen it boom from a smaller 40K town to today and MSN saying it’s the top of the housing market with the influx of people moving in. Hard to not love this place but it’s getting too crowded for our infrastructure. Not sure I’d ever leave though.

Weather sucks,Crime is out of control and the attitude is just not my thing here but my people are here so.....

Sometimes the grass is greener somewhere else and sometimes it only seems like it might be.

I get to work in some pretty amazing resort locations that seem like a possible relocation spot but the cost of living in insane every time too.

Not particularly. Born and raised in central,WA and I’ve never really cared for this type scenery and I’m much more of a city person. Luckily we are 2.5 hours from Seattle,Spokane and tri cities. For whatever reason I’ve never cared for the mountains and don’t like any of our surrounding states really either (Idaho,Oregon,Montana) after traveling a bit I really enjoy the more tropical type of places like California or Florida.

Our primary attachment to the Edmonton area is that it's where our family is but it's also roughly midway between the mountains and our lake lot.

I'd also prefer to work at an industrial site than in an office, which is easier here than in Calgary or a lot of other places in the country. And based on her profession, it would be difficult for my wife to work outside Alberta and impossible for her to work in the US.

People in southern Alberta are some of the worst drivers around.

Yeah I do. Biggest (and really only) gripe is our gun laws. But since I lost everything in the boating accident it’s not too big of a deal breaker anymore.

I love living in Breckenridge, CO for all the reasons an outdoor enthusiast would. Although right now I find myself really struggling with the fabric of the community being absolutely ravaged by the influx of remote workers not contributing to the local workforce then in turn taking all the housing while driving housing costs up since they make wages that are far beyond that of local workers. Also the number of longtime locals who have sold their properties for profit only to have them replaced with greedy out of town owners who only want to use them for Airbnb, also hurting our local workforce.

I could never hate capitalism, as it's the foundation of this country, but in an area like a small mountain town where the housing options are maybe 1% of what's available in Denver, there needs to be a balance and right now there isn't. Local businesses are closed multiple days a week because nobody can work since they don't have housing. To make that picture clearer, it's not the wages of these service industry positions that is the problem. Oh sure, some need to pay more, that's a given. But even if you can pay a dishwasher $25/hr, how can that compare to the remote worker who works for a big tech company making 100k a year paying $3k a month for a one bedroom condo? Even people working trade jobs that make very good money and have saved up for 10 years to buy a home, can no longer do so and some are living in their vans just to keep working.

This is the absolute sickening part of what is happening to NY. I love the diversity but I can’t stand all the garbage that comes along with it now. You can watch a Broadway show in NYC, drive a couple hours to the tip of Long Island to sit on beautiful beaches and then drive four hours north to seen picturesque mountain scenery.

A large portion of the southern end of the state has become nothing more than a safe haven for criminals. Yet the taxes continue to rise at an alarming rate. I can’t wait to move but I will always miss it when I do…

A few years ago (5-7, well before the pandemic) I hired a young lady from Montana and she told almost the same story as you outlined above— it’s pretty depressing to hear. :-/ the pandemic and resulting increase in remote work has exacerbated the problem, where does it go from here? Hard to believe there are enough coastal people (fleeing paradise it seems) to sustain that type of demand. Thanks for sharing and good luck!

Being centrally located in the country is wonderful. I travel all over the US for work throughout the year, and it's really nice that the longest flight in the lower 48 for me is only a hair over three hours.

I was just having this talk with someone at work, and my opinion is that there just isn't enough nature in North Texas. Sure, its here and there, and can be found, but we are seriously lacking on national parks up here and Texas is literally 95% private land which is unfortunate. Yes there are places like Big Bend, but its more than 8 hours away, so I'd rather spend another couple hours in the car and just go to CO instead. Mountains will most definitely be in my future once the kiddo is out of school.

Nature aside, I love this state. You can do you with relatively little side-eyeing. There are pockets of idiots throughout the state, but that can be said about any of the other 49.

I moved to Hillsdale, NY in Columbia County a bit over a year ago and I love it here.

Peace and quiet on five acres with a swimming pond, quiet country roads to ride my bicycle and motorcycle on, and lots of friendly people (a lot different than where I was born and spent the majority of my life, which is Westchester County).

I live in South Dakota. It's not great, but it's not bad. I can't really name a place I would want to move to. Maybe northern Minnesota. Not interested in big city living. Plenty of jobs, reasonable cost of living, plenty to do if you actually look for things to do. I'm OK with where I live.

I'm originally from Arizona (Tempe/East Valley area) the Army stuck me on the East Coast and now I'm a permanent Georgia resident.

I miss "real" mountains, severe thunderstorms that actually include tons of lightning, and the lack of humidity. Overall though, I don't think I'll move back. I've gotten used to seasons and trees with color. For anybody who doesn't live in North Georgia, 10/10 would absolutely recommend.

I'm either naive or don't leave the suburbs often enough but I haven't really seen any effects from the legalisation of marijuana here yet.

Moved from KS to TX about 1.5 years ago and I'm enjoying the the climate better. Although the first winter I experienced here was the winter storm that knocked our power out for days. Luckily since I grew up in the snow I was able to get out and about to get stuff unlike my fellow Texans in the ditch lol
