Do You have any Weird or Unusual Quirks?

I put butter and syrup on Grits... southerners think I am crazy.

 

Appreciate the real world advice. I feel like you dont get the real picture from most realtors. I will have to adjust my searches a bit. I dont mind a little extra cost, coming from california, the prices in alaska seem like their giving it away.....

Ninilchik has a great pizza joint. Roscoe's. I know Roscoe and his wife. Excellent pizza. Roscoe used to be the executive chef at Princess Denali 5 star hotel. Ninilchik is a nice area and Clam Gulch just up the highway. The Russians settled this area back in the day. There still is a Russian Orthodox church in Ninilchik. Lots of folks with Russian ancestry too.

 

Interesting. My family is Armenian so i can speak a little russian. Makes sense why they would move there. Still feels like russian but you get all the benefits of America, smart. thanks for the link. It would be fun to drive the tundra up there.

 

We were at the Home Depot in Kenai and saw a family dressed in traditional garb. Quite colorful and quirky! I forgot about the town of Kenai. Worth checking out too.

 

This Southerner thinks you're just fine. I've always had a sweet tooth, and in Basic Training a few decades ago I was having withdrawals from the lack of sweets allowed. Then I discovered the honey, and mixed it in my grits every morning. I add honey to my grits to this day.

 

Funny, I’ve been looking at real estate lately, realizing that if I want to buy ANYthing else in Nashville, I’m going to lose my shirt right now. I’m sitting on double the equity I had when I bought my home 5 years ago. It’s nuts. Everywhere around here is like that. Since last year, people are fleeing cities. Some due to COVID realizing they can work from home, and some due to “civil unrest”. Rural land prices for lots where one could get services and road frontage to build a home on around here are insane. I couldn’t sleep the other night and started looking everywhere in the US. Just moving the map around on Zillow. Nothing serious.

I learned two things: real estate in OR/WA isn’t as bad as I thought, and there is some seriously beautiful oceanfront property in Alaska that is pretty cheap!

 

So anywhere to avoid on the penninsula?

 

Not really other than big bears and moose!. If you are really adventurous Google the town of Hope. It's on the north end of Kenai Peninsula. Wonderful spot. Very large spruce trees and mosquitoes. Small town and takes a bit to get to.

Check out Seward and Whittier. Quirky places.

I would agree with the other southerners. . .however . . .I'm southern and I hate grits.

Grits are just about the worst breakfast food ever invented. If a food is so unbearable that you have to cover it in sugar or salt, the food sucks.

 

Agreed. It has always seemed like an excuse for Southerners to slather something in butter, salt, and/or sugar.

 

Definitely agree with that. . However, they've caused me lots of grief over the years. Lol

There’s a time I like to eat cheesy grits, and a time like them with maple syrup or honey. And I’m not from the south at all...

 

You are, thus far, *literally* the only Southerner I know who has said anything other than a variety of "You monster!", "Bless your heart!" or "You obviously ain't from the South, are you?" LOL Wife is from Virginia and if it ain't butter, cheese, pepper, or some variation thereof, she won't do it.

But my wife puts up with it, because I introduced her to Chicago-style pizza about a decade ago. She absolutely LOVES it.

 

If I hadn't gone through boot camp and been desperate for something sweet, I might not be that exception!

"Grits" just does not sound appetizing. I had them once and that was it.
Anyway my quirk is very much like this:

I always have to round out the amount of the sale. The quantity, not so much.

 

Hmm I have to have any number be an even number or multiple of 5... don’t know why, I just do

 

I always have to print out a receipt just to keep the transaction square. I don't want the gas stop putting in an extra zero in the $ Sale.

 

I just fill it up until the tank is full and the pump shuts off.
