We are sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with your experience. Just to clarify the harness pictured IS the 20" harness you requested. Feel free to measure it if it's off by some reason by all means we would make it right! The 8" harness is much shorter and wouldn't be twisted like that as those clear bags are 9" long and the 8" wouldn't even reach end to end there would be no need to fold it up. Including a pic of the 8" harness just for reference.

    8inch.jpg

As always we appreciate the orders and if there are any issues we are always here to work things out. We change the lengths offered based on feedback from you guys of being too long/short depending on what you are trying to do so if you need a different length just let us know. We offer it to the Tacoma guys in a 72" as they like to run them up to the overhead console as well. Thanks again if you have any questions let us know!

Where did get the switch panel for that spot? Was that homemade or is it something I can order? I want to relocate the rear window switch there but would like to have the same setup……do you have a link? Thanks in advance.

This is the image posted by OP. It reflects the back window harness having five wires (Lt. green, Pink, Tan, White and Yellow) - but mine is the same. I am moving my back window switch behind the shifter to the "credit card" spot. I am also adding two other switches in the @Rocfrog three switch panel (great panel).
    Question 1:
I want to use the Back Window harness to tie the night time illumination circuit to the other two switches. I looked at the wiring diagrams provided by @RainMan_PNW (thank you very much) but I am not knowledgeable enough to understand which wires to tap (twenty years of education did not teach me anything practical). Can someone tell me which colors of wires on the back window harness are for the night illumination circuit?
    Question 2:
I have DD light bars that are direct wired from battery, with fuse and simple rocker switch. I want to replace the switch for a Toyota looking Air on Board "LED Panel" switch. There is a warning from Air on Board that the switch must be used with a fused relay because it is an electronic switched circuit. I thought this would be a simple change out of the switch plus the two wires for the night illumination circuit. I have no relay. How do I do it?
    THANKS to all.

Question 1: center brownish wire should be the one for ill+. Check with a DMM first, but I’m 99% sure that’s what I tapped.
Question 2: you’ll need to install relays… luckily you should be able to hijack the existing wiring and not have to run new through the firewall, but the relay pinouts can be a little confusing if you’re unfamiliar.

I think I might have definitive answers for both in my build thread but I’ll need to sift through it.

From the Illumination EWD - this is the back window switch illumination. It is an 8-pin connector (even though only 5 wires). Pin 1 (YELLOW) is your illumination "ground" (it goes back to the instrument cluster and that is how the switch dims). Pin 8 (LIGHT GREEN) is the illumination +12V.
    upload_2022-7-22_22-11-21.jpg

    The other three wires are:
    Pin 2 (White-Black) = Ground
Pin 4 (Beige) = DOWN signal "to" the Back Window Relay #2
Pin 6 (Pink) = UP signal "to" the Back Window Relay #1
    upload_2022-7-22_22-13-17.jpg

For answer #2, as Jake stated, you would need to add a relay. The AOB switch can't handle full power load through it. Where and how you wire that would depend on how it is currently wired up. I would need a schematic of what you currently have to be able to give you a recommendation on how to wire it up with an AOB switch and a relay.

I knew you’d set it straight, lol. I’m probably confusing my wire colors with the VSC button that I’ve also tapped for illumination. I’ve also had a few beers, and am not to be trusted.

@RainMan_PNW - THANKS, I might get this done tomorrow.
@TRDFerguson - Read your build thread - great truck. You did post the build on the DIY: Automatic Traction Control Disabler which is very helpful as well.
This is why I love this group! It is a great education! (And I need to go to the garage and check but I think I have a relay on the DD light bar circuit already but I am too stupid to know what it is).
Edit - and yes there is a relay that DD already had built into the kit.

Last question guys (not a promise). It also says install a 1 amp diode on the wire from the relay to the switch. Could that already be in the relay? Do they sell those to install?

This is the DD instructions that shows the schematic (kinda) with the relay. Apparently there are three wires at the switch.

Right, ground, 12v in, 12v out to relay

Edit: unless you have a backlit version maybe

So I am ready to do it! Except for whether I need to install the 1 amp diode on the wire to the relay?

I’ve used AOB switches and never done the diode thing… it might just protect the switch if it gets wired improperly? I wouldn’t worry about it.

I would think the three wires on the DD switch are 12v in, 12v out, and ground for illumination - assuming it’s not a SPDT switch. I can’t think of any other reason to have a third wire.

I’ve also done AOB switches without the diode. It depends on how you are wiring them (i.e. tapping off of a signal circuit). For simply adding a new switch and load like a light bar, no diode needed.

The 2018 wire harness is different than the 2017 and older and the wire colors are not all the same. Not sure about the window switch

Nice write up, wish I had known about the harness. Mine is second gen but same premise, I moved it to the center console.

I went the opposite route using the sequoia cubby there and putting the tow/haul with the rear window

That's funny, mine is a Sequoia & I moved all those switches to the center & got rid of the cubby. (was 1/2 of yours) as there were 3 switches there.

That’s correct. I swapped for a larger useless cubby haha. I have been thinking about putting a wireless phone charger there someday

it would be awesome if that “auto” switch was a plug and play way to make the window auto…. I wonder :monocle:

I just ordered my cable, I want to mount it just below the center console lid. I will post pics when finished

Hope you ordered extra length in the cable for that… and take into account just how long that switch is (it will protrude into your console if you are actually mounting into the vertical part directly below the lid.
