I wish it was this easy; my dealer literally laughed at me for asking.

Yes, it is a pain in the @$$ to get TechStream setup and working if you're trying to do it for free and not paying the ridiculous subscription fee. You will need to disable any 3rd party anti-virus software and also Windows Defender as it will detect the OBDII cable driver installer as a virus (which it could well be). Long story short, I run TechStream on an old laptop that was wiped and Windows re-installed. The laptop is only used for TechStream and nothing else. Said laptop has all network adapters disabled and the laptop is NEVER allowed to connect to the network/Internet. Essentially, if there is any virus/malware, I'm not going to give it the chance to transmit any harvested info.

If you're not technically savvy, my advice would be to steer clear.

Mine has the wireless adapter physically removed. Definitely takes some time to get everything set up correctly.

    Excellent plan.
Out of curiosity, what version of Windows are you using for your TechStream software. When I had a 2010 Tundra, I used an old Windows XP laptop.

Latest TechStream runs just fine on Windows 10. I haven’t tried Windows 11 though.

Update for those interested in turning off the chime. I dropped my truck off at the dealer today to take care of the laundry list of issues. I asked a different service person about turning off the seatbelt chime and fake engine noise. He said it is their policy that they will turn it off only for vehicles purchased from them....weird, but ok I purchased there, that's better than the last response I got.

I won’t have access to it for the next 2 weeks as the one I’m using is a shop tool. I can definitely get some pics if you still need it by then.

i think since v15 or so you can run it on win 10 64bit, prior versions required 32bit and xp. or was it v 12 or 13. cant remember since ive been using an old version to hook up to our 2018.

some functions are universal across all models like seat belt chime.

Does anyone know for certain which version cable is needed for the 22s?

I've got everything installed and set up on an old burner PC, but I can't seem to get it to connect. My cable has 1.4 firmware. Maybe I need the 2.0

You need a special cable that supports Toyota's protocols to get full functionality. They sell them on Amazon

What firmware does your cable have? I've got one with 1.4, but it doesn't seem to connect. Might need a 2.0 instead.

I’ve used techstream for a few years now and have a tactix cable I use to connect to my truck. The cable I have is the cable used for tuning Toyota with vftuner.

Brand new 2022 Tundra owner here. Just got mine this week, I'm so happy. But is this the setting for "Rear Seat Reminder" you are looking for? It's one of the customize Vehicle Settings option when you mess around in the dash views settings on the steering wheel opposite the cruise control buttons. I didn't find a setting for the driver and passenger ones but I seem to remember there was a way to use the ODO button and buckling, unbuckling the seat belt that could turn that reminder on and off... haven't tried it yet though.

I believe the rear seat reminder is supposed to help you not forget your kids in the back seat. It doesn't have anything to do with the seatbelt chime

A standard tactrix 2.0? I used to use one to tune my WRX. I didn't realize it supported other platforms

Mine is 1.4. It will connect to my ‘05 4Runner. Not sure about a ‘22 Tundra as I don’t have one yet, still waiting…

Update....just got my truck back from service. I spoke with the service manager and he had no issue turning off the reminder.....ahhh, what a difference! Seems funny because I actually always drive with my belt on. I had no idea how hard it was for me to keep my seatbelt on when I pulled into my driveway, that chime got me everytime.

Thank you so much for the tip. Never would’ve thought to bother digging 500 pages deep! I thought I’d have to go dealer hunting after my local dealer gave me some line about them not even having the ability to shut it off due to it being a safety feature. Walked into the service dept. with this page dog eared and after some balking about “well, we can do it, but only for registered farm trucks…” I finally got the manager to bring the computer out. Amazing how hard they make you fight for this stuff.

Not all dealers are willing to do this. some have more aversion to liability, charge for it, or give some bs that it wasnt bought there, etc . some rare ones just dont care.

the farm equipment excuse is a new one for me. john deere is worse than car dealers on letting anyone have access to anything outside of a dealer.

hence people go out and find techstream and do it themselves and save themself the hassle

Finally got my truck. I can confirm that my cable with firmware version 1.4 (when used with Techstream v17) can successfully connect to and change settings on the 22 Tundra.

I dropped my truck off for the axle recall yesterday and requested that they turn the seatbelt chime off. The service advisor smirked and said he'd have the tech check it. When I picked the truck up he told me "disabling the chime isn't an option for the 2022."

I should have done my homework and bookmarked this thread... I was pretty certain I had read that guys had had it done.

Not only can it be disabled, it can be enabled/disabled per seat. Driver, front passenger, rear left, rear center, rear right.

I wouldn't mind so much being told no, but the straight out lie would really aggravate me. How could you ever trust anything this clown says again? Right now, under warranty, whatever, but when you are paying out of pocket, I couldn't do business with this guy. I have quite an aversion with people lying to me.

The first time I asked, the sales manager told me no due to liability. I did some reading on here and on my next visit I talked to the service manager and asked him if he would mind using Tech-Stream to turn off the seat belt chime and fake engine sound. He could say no, but I certainly sounded like I new the game so he couldn't lie, LOL. He said, no problem and did it.

If I was you, I would re-visit that service advisor and allow him the opportunity to "save face", as they say, by acting like you researched it and providing him the chance to say he was wrong / uninformed and not just lying. If he persists, I'd let his manager know he is lying to customers.

I don't know why, but my dealership did say they will only turn off the chime for customers who purchased from them...weird, but ok.
