factory mic: i have researched and tapping into factory mic seems impossible so far. please let me know if you find out different. i plan to run extension mono 3.5 mm from factory location around windshield down pillar and into dash.
android auto: you can run your own launcher. just download the launcher in play store then you can go to settings - default apps and set it to the launcher. some of us use nova launcher and some like the UI launcher it comes with. I personally like the car launcher AG and its $1.99 ... i pair that up with poweramp because the music portion interfaces with it. I have yet to figure out the SMS portion but then again i have my cellphone mounted next to it and just glance with my eyes.

    t3.jpg

SWC: there is a steering wheel app that you must launch to program. you can map long and short depresses. if it doesnt work you might need to go into factory settings and under "other" tab there is a steering wheel control option, you might need to change it from canbus to swc or reverse. hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll run their mic to the steering wheel column this weekend. I downloaded CarWebGuru at lunch and so far I'm liking this interface. I got Google Hangouts to work but when i installed Verizon messenger + it crashes out immediately after opening. Probably because there's no SIM card or cell signal. I'm sure there's an app that goes through bluetooth or such to gain messages but the last thing i need is another unknown publisher gaining access to my messages.

Anyways, thanks for the support. I was going to change the steel wheel option under factory settings but didn't want to goof things up too badly.

Will try that and report back later today.

Yup that worked switching to CANBUS but can't hold for Assistant.

Really liking this User Interface much better.
    Thanks again

That's great. I'm super anal so when I received mine I spent literally three days straight learning the whole user interface and all settings. Glad I could be of help.

For the front camera? There is a wire for the FCAM power source on the same harness you would plug in the video feed for the FCAM. The camera I bought had a “trigger” wire that I used to connect the power to the front camera. Take a look at post #246.

Here is the picture from that post. I used a Posi-Lock to connect the two wires.

Thanks @VTYOTA . I got the HU working and all but the only thing is my factory back up camera does not work. Not quite sure which cable that one is because I didn’t see an RCA connection on the factory head unit

Did you look at post #33 that @916tundra provided? It tells you everything you need to know about all the cables provided with the head unit. #2 in post #33 is what you need to connect your rear camera.

Yeah I saw that post but didn’t help. There is 2 yellow wires coming from the Canbus, both labeled CAM VIN. On the harness to the HU, there is one yellow labeled CAM VIN and one labeled VID AUX IN. After playing around, I found out all I had to do was switch the two CAM VIN around and it worked.

I went through the rubber grommet on the driver's side. If you search FRAC and go to the FRAC thread, the first post has a front cam installation video. They go through the passenger side firewall though. Basically the same idea, you just pick which side you want. I already had a hole in my driver's side firewall grommet from my LED headlights installation.

I went through the passenger side like in the video. Does anyone know where you can get new car launchers? Is it just in the play store? Got mine all hooked up, I like the unit but looking for a good UI

Sorry - been in the mountains of Colorado for the past week. It sure was nice having this headunit on the 14+ hour to/from drive when towing my Travel Trailer. Music, maps, even downloaded Amazon prime so the kids could watch some educational cartoons.

As far as your question - I had plenty of cable and I can try to get you more photos if you still need them. I mounted the cam by drilling through the bottom of the Toyota emblem. Then just ran the wire across the grill and then zip tied it using holes in the underside of the hood. It looks a lot like the windshield wiper fluid hoses if you aren't paying attention.

As it has been mentioned before, there is an actual camera that fits inside our Toyota Logo with no drilling/cutting required.

Hi all - Thanks for creating this thread, it is amazing.

I am putting together a cart to purchase, but things keep changing from the initial list of components posted back in April. Now the base unit appears to be Android 9.0 with rockchip px6. you can order the older gear but it is the same cost. Unless there is a compelling reason, I am inclined to go with the later gear.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33014370012.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.68603c00rq1LaV

    Model Name: HA2156A-MAX6 - $434.7
    OS : Android 9 Pie
    CPU : RK3399 , Dual Cortex-A72 + Quad Cortex-A53,
    64-bit RAM : 4 GB ROM : 64 GB GPU : Mali-T860MP4 Radio : ST7708 Bluetooth : CSR BC6

Ordering from Aliexpress saves about $70 over Amazon....

    Any comments would appreciated...

That is their price without the canbus. they will tell you to tag on another canbus item to customize it for your tundra.

It also doesn't include the Android Auto/CarPlay Dongle. Also, the Max6 is also a different unit then the one most of us installed. Not sure if it will work with GEN3.

EDIT: Forget the comment about Max 6. I guess that's what they are calling it now.

Thanks for the comments. I have loaded the canbus and dongle in the dongle in the cart as well, but that is all unchanged.

    1. Canbus CB004, $35
    2. Carplay dongle, $60.39

I will also have to order some cables from crutchfield, like the usb adapter, etc.... I am also unclear if the external mic is included or if that was a "free gift". But I can sort that out when the package from china arrives.

Still for about $550 plus a few extras, this should be a killer deal.

I read that some were hesitant PX6 because it was so new. I am outside my depth here so was wondering what experience others had.

you definitely want to sort it out before they ship. the mic is included. if you are missing something, they will send it regular china post and that takes 4-6 weeks.

your best bet is to do it through Amazon. they will give you a package deal for everything for $480. just message the seller and tell them you are from the tundra forum. PX6 works fine. I have PX5 chip and there is no noticeable difference.

    Thanks Tinman.

I did not realize the $480 price on Amazon included the canbus adapter an the dongle. I will message them and confirm.

I paid the extra $10 for 7-day shipping when I set up the original Amazon deal that everyone is using. If someone got 7-day shipping for free - post up.

Beats 1 month on a ship. I literally just got a replacement cable from Thailand for my headlight levelers. Took 31 days.
