Do you know if it’s 2.5 or 3.5mm? Doesn’t matter if it’s mono or stereo for the extension part?

Thanks @jmevis! Also do you know where I would attach the ground wire from the radio that was discussed previously? I have a stock Non-JBL entune system so I am not sure if it would be the same as running the ground wire to the upgraded amp on @916tundra build

I did nothing with mine. Only a very light hiss from the tweeters when nothing is playing. And I'm saying like putting your ear up to it light hiss.

Are there any ground noise coming from your speakers, if no, no need to use the ground wire. If the noise is noticeable, there are several grounding points. Behind panel of the footwell or at the factory amp.

It's good to ground it. Ground it to the right inside bolt of the head unit trim piece. The one you have to peek into the dash to screw on. That bolt is grounded to the cross member of the chassis.

Read through the whole thread and very interested in this for my 3rd gen.. I have a 2014 1794 with JBL. Is this going to work? Does this HU retain FM radio and or XM radio? Has anyone got this to work with a USB 4g modem? I really dont want to have to turn on hotspot every time I get in the truck.

Yes this HU should work for your truck. It retains FM radio but not XM. I don’t think anyone have tried the USB modem yet but I don’t see why it would not work. I mainly use CarPlay so no need for hotspot.

@minter66 I am thinking about doing the same for my tundra this weekend. Did you have enough cable length for the camera to reach the back of the HU? Also do you have anymore pics of how you ran the wire or mounted the camera? I like where you positioned it!

19ft is plenty long to reach the HU. I ran my wire along the driver's side since I already had wires (headlight harness) running into the cab from there.

@minter66 or anyone else with the 9.0 upgraded one of these.... I have a few questions.

Does the stock radio app show the current playing song on compatible stations?

How is the call quality using the supplied mic compared to stock?

Are the steering wheel buttons programmable? I've seen some of these units that will allow long presses for other functions.

Does the built in dsp/equalizer actually do anything?

I currently have a tesla style unit and it has its quirks but I might be getting one of these to test out. Just want to make sure of a few things before I pull the trigger.

Not yet, haven't had the time to take the factory mic out and inspect it.

Radio app does show the current song on compatible stations.
Call quality of supplied mic is comparable to stock mic, in my opinion.
No need to program the wheel buttons, the canbus retains factory controls. Not sure if you can program them for other controls.
DSP/equalizer does a great job allowing you to tune the sound to your liking.

You can have the steering wheel controls do what ever you want. I accidentally bricked mine and had to reprogram.

After having this a few weeks and limited amount of time of playing around with it I do have a few questions:
    * Has the factory microphone not been found to tap into? I am going to run the one with the HU but would rather use the factory's.
    * Android Auto runs as soon as i insert by USB and launchers their version of carplay but I'm not a fan of the user interface. Is there a way to run my own launcher and USB without having to hotspot? I know the other launchers are using the HU's app and the carplay one is using the one from my phone but the choice is either to hot spot every time for your preferred launcher or use their carplay version by just inserting the USB.
I don't have a way to grab my text messages or see them using the autoplay app via USB only the pre programmed apps on the bottom tray. Is there no way to customize it?
    * I cannot adjust my steering wheel controls and it is set to Toyota 8 but says "standard". I cannot use the skip up or down for radio but the volume works, phone and it mutes but I can't adjust anything. Would be nice to do a tap VS hold function each each input.

Overall I'm happy with the HU given the price to performance functionality.

so just a public android PSA for all the new users. you will want to change two settings if it has not been done so so your unit wont cold boot everytime you turn the car on.

first is the "shutdown delay when ACC off": go into settings - car settings - extra settings and set to "auto sleep"

    t1.jpg

next very important is go into settings - car settings - factory settings (password is 126) then go to last tab "other" and change default power status to "memory power status of last". click apply and exit and it will reboot. just to let you know you might loose some of your settings such as radio presets but this will make your life so much happier. :)

tell them yes so they know the canbus wiring for the tundra. they basically want a picture of the rear of the HU. i know Ken supplied a pic at the beginning of the thread for everyone to use. make sure its the same gen radio. canbus should work with or without JBL.

Yeah. I found pictures of a JBL system on Ebay and sent them and that was enough.

How long have you guys had to wait for the unit to come in. Assuming it ships from China.
