Double Cab gets my vote. I'm sure there's use cases for either, but with my family (just one kid so far) it's perfect. Plus a little less cab is better for squeezing between trees when offroading if that's a consideration.

Hot topic here. I love my DC and didn't even consider a crewmax. I've ridden in the back seat a number of times and felt fine in the space it has. I also just drove it 3200 miles R/T to Oregon and back with 3 grown adults all over 6'. Both my girls are also tall at 6'1" and 5'10", and even though it is tight they don't complain when we take mtn bike trips to Moab (5 hours each way). The back seat is a bit tight but not a deal breaker for me. You either get the extra foot in your bed or your back seat so you decide what matters more. Personally I like the look of the DC more as well so there is that.

No way I would ever get a DC, I cannot sit comfortably behind myself. I used the space in the cab way more than I haul long things in the bed. All per case usage, the 5.5 foot bed has never let me down, but everyone thats ever ridden in the back seat could not believe the space and comfort.

Crew Max here. Ski bags with boots and gloves (and groceries) stay warm in the cab, skis and boards all fit in the bed no problem.

I dont miss the 1' of bed space going from a '14 DC to my '19 CM. Also, Crew Max Rear window is the business.

100% miss my limo rear window from my first gen. So bummed that Toyota only included it on the CM when they came out with Gen 2 and 2.5.

I think the rear window is cool also. I had to replace the rear window regulator in my older 4runner this year. Was kind of a pain, would seem like the tundra would be more of a pain to remove the seats to get to it?

Keep in mind for your search too, that the DC has fold down seats with a small mod and Tundra234 did convert his DC from the small window to the full CM style window. That would be very high on my list of mods if I had a DC.

21 DC is sufficent, but a 22 DC would be too cramped for most.

Yup CM for the win. Rear door handles on DC look kinda funny.

I have a 2021 DC and 4runner and a 7yo (among others I claim on my taxes). The 7yo fits back there great and has as much room as the 4runner/FJ. 6”3 I find the mid row of the 4runner cramped, but actually fit in a DC. I have sat in the back of several CMs on trips and definitely understand the awesomeness of the size for hauling big people in the back seat. For me the 6.5ft bed is absolutely necessary for construction/wood/hauling.

But the bed on a cm looks like it came off a jeep truck. So there is that.

I think it is completely dependent on your lifestyle. I am down to one kid but he's a 6' 14 year old and the crewmax is definitely a plus. Of course when I try to do work like hauling dirt or rocks I wish the bed was bigger. I also work with dogs and love that I can put a crate in the back simply by flipping the seat up!

Same. But even in a crew max, you will invert your leaf springs and be way over payload before you ever fill the bed with rocks or dirt.

All points are valid, how many humans/four legs you are hauling/bed space vs cab space....

For me, two girls and I have CM, just for the sake that it is roomier, the bed space has been good so far, can fit a whole pallet of sod in the bed and not shit the suspension, plus, if I am moving larger stuff, I would just get a trailer and be done.

I do wish, though, they would have made the 2G/2.5G CM with 6.5' bed, that would be the ultimate unicorn to have. Best of both world.

I went CM because I needed the cab room more than the bed. The main function of my truck is to tow our travel trailer on long trips. When I'm hitched up, the bed is usually empty, but the back seat has two kids and our 90 lb dog (who lays down on the floor by the kids' feet). I want everyone to be comfortable on the long drives.

With that said, my brother in law has a DC but he needed bed space more. My niece and nephew have ridden in the back seat many times on long trips and have been fine. They didn't need to fit their dog too, so it works out.

So it's ALL about priorities and how you use your truck. If I didn't have a need for extra cab space or the larger bed, and I was looking for a used Tundra, I'd simply find the best maintained, best priced, and best optioned Tundra for me and buy it, regardless of CM versus DC.

Went to look at a 21 CM today, just saw it up pop up on the dealer website. Already sold. Still havent found a DC to look at. Seems like they move pretty fast, sometimes. Or they sit on the lot for a couple months and then I call about it, and it has happened to sell the day before.

Replaced bed after rear end, replaced rear lights, replaced broken rear brake line, re-clamped leaf springs.
I have two kids in car seats and the double cab provides enough space for us all. It's back back there for the kids, but they're growing into booster seats, which will be plenty of room. I like the extra bed length.

Buy a DC because I feel like there’s more room in the back seat for adult sized people, more than the American brands double cabs. The bed allows you to put your bike on a tailgate pad and still have room for cooler, grill, firewood, camping stuff between the tire and the front of the bed.
I think my next truck will be a 3/4 ton gas Chevrolet tho in crew cab 6.5ft bed.

I only have a CM because car seats are so damn big these days. If you're done having kids, get the DC.

Find brochures for the truck and 4 runner and compare rear seating specs ( I think headroom, legroom, width, ). I had an 01 xterra I was replacing w tundra. After comparing the DC was same or bigger which helped me decide For me my xterra was fine so I knew the DC would be too. Many times I’m glad I have the extra bed length

I purposely took my time to find a DC since they seem to be more scarce in my area. I care a lot more about the bed length especially when I'm frequently buying 4x8 sheets of plywood. I do think that the color matched rear handles (or door openers) and black front handles looked odd on my white truck so I replaced the front handles with white ones.
